It's just another example of the sad state of today's culture...somebody is reading the ticker scrolling across the bottom of a sports cable station, grabbing names of mlb players having a big game or that do something newsworthy, and then digging through their social media history to see if they can find something that makes them look like a terrible person and shame them, context be damned. To me those actions speak to just how empty some people's lives are - when the highlight of your weekend is finding an old tweet from someone you don't know at all that is insensitive and embarrassing before reposting it claiming this is in some way advancing civility, you really need better hobbies and are approaching life in a depressingly pessimistic way. I also don't get why these instances merit a short news story and extended attention on certain national sports sites. MLB trade deadline, nfl training camp, soccer, golf, lebRon a laker OMG!!!, so many other actual sports events that are newsworthy. Maybe it's because I hate social media and don't partake in any of it, but it sure seems like "bringing the world closer together" using the world wide web has been a crime against humanity more often than a blessing.
