  1. I'd rather have a chance at securing one of 2 playoff opportunities than have to throw all the eggs in the wild card basket - especially when there's other teams from other divisions that come into play. As long as there's this much baseball left to be played, I want to be close to the division lead. It's still too early to give up on winning the division. Go Cards, but honestly, I'm good with any outcome aside from either team sweeping the other. If the Brewers can both gain on the Cubs and expand their lead on the Cardinals without playing either, I'm all for it. The best and most important thing would be for the Brewers to take care of business against the Nationals and pick up games on all teams concerned (cubs play cards, mets play marlins this weekend)
  2. The Brewers need to continue playing well, and it appears the upcoming schedule should allow them to do just that - 4 against the Nats and 3 at the Padres looks nice right now, especially considering this: During the same time, the Cards finish a series against an improved Dodgers team, then go on the road for 3 against the Cubs and 4 against the Marlins The Cubs host the Cards, then go on the road to Atlanta and Florida The Marlins obviously play both the Cards and Cubs next week, and finish a series against the Phillies and play the Mets this weekend...brutal stretch. The point I'm trying to make is that if the Brewers play well over this stretch against brutal teams, they'll improve their position on the other teams vying for the 2 playoff spots the Brewers could attain, regardless of how those games all play out.
  3. lineup needs to generate an inning where the pitcher's spot comes up in a run-scoring situation so Yost actually pulls the plug on him when he probably should
  4. what the heck is Votto thinking there? that was a gift AB if there ever was one
  5. If I'm in Ned Yost's seat, McClung or Villenueva are getting warmed up right now in the bullpen - I don't want another 5th inning/3rd time through the order getting away from Suppan, I don't care what his pitch count is
  6. Homer Bailey is not good at hitting his spot...probably the reason a pitcher with his kind of stuff continues to stink
  7. not gonna say that he hasn't been disappointing in many other facets of the game lately, but Rickie Weeks' bat appears to be waking up a bit...average pushing towards .230 when it was still hovering around .200 a month ago.
  8. A win and the Brewers have a 4-2 road trip - 3 weeks ago I think we'd all be ecstatic with a winning roady, no matter who the Brewers played. gotta get back to winning at home, especially with the possibility of picking up ground on either the Cubs or Cards this weekend, since they play each other.
  9. I don't care how "baffling" this guy is - swinging through 80 mph crap that's waist high is a joke
  10. Go figure - Yost packs the lineups with as many lefties as possible against a righty who's best pitch is a changeup, a pitch that's most effective against lefthanded hitters. Not that any of the righthanded hitters are doing anything anyways - maybe after seeing this guy for three starts the hitters might adjust at some point? Please????
  11. I think the whole thing was a ploy to always have an extra long man available once Suppan got off the DL for the past few weeks - it's funny that this is announced just after Suppan finally gave a good start and far enough ahead of time for Bush to keep preparing for his next scheduled start w/out this distraction. If Suppan stunk on ice against that Braves lineup he pitched against, I wouldn't have been surprised to see McClung taking his spot in the rotation as the answer to this "platoon".
  12. specific to this thread title - I definitely still care what the Cubs do, since they are the only team still in front of Milwaukee for the division lead. 4 games is a good working margin, especially with how good a team they are, but all it takes is a 2 bad series from them and all of a sudden that lead is 2 games or less. I will definitely be a bit more torn when the Cubs play the Cardinals, Phillies, Mets, and Marlins, but as long as Milwaukee stays within 3-5 games of the Cubs in the standings and maintains the lead in the wild card race, I'm rooting for the Cubs to come back to the pack a bit as long as they're not losing those games against the other contending teams. I'd rather maintain contact with the division lead to give the Brewers 2 ways into the playoffs than be happy with leading the wildcard only to watch some team the Brewers don't play as much get red hot and overtake them. The way the schedules set up, both Milwaukee and Chicago could go on a pretty good tear to put some distance between them and the other playoff contenders - that will serve both of them well for September. The Cards, Marlins, Phillies, and Mets are all quality teams, but they play each other a good amount, especially the NL East teams. After watching the Cubs sweep the Brewers at home in a four game set, nothing would be sweeter than taking 2 of 3 from them at wrigley and casting doubt on their playoff chances heading into that 7 game roadie in Shea and at Miller Park.
  13. Hopefully the Cubs pick up Chuck James in a waiver deal
  14. I just can't wait for another great Corey Hart AB with how he's been going after watching Prince draw a 4-5 pitch walk, here's pretty much been the sequence: pitch 1: Swing and miss at a slider/curve low and away in the dirt - blurt out an expletive pitch 2: Take a fastball right down the middle for strike two - blurt out another expletive because you just guessed the pitcher would thrown another waste pitch low and away pitches 3-4: a couple of foulballs on high fastballs or fastball 3-4 inches off the plate - occasionally taking a ball or 2 along the way that aren't close to the zone pitch 5 - swing and miss at another slider/curve low and away in the dirt - hand your bat and helmet to the batboy and take your glove out to right. hoping to reverse the Karma with this post and watch him go 3-4 with a walk!
  15. If the season ended today, the Brewers would be in the playoffs for the first time since I was 2... The next 13 games the Brewers play are against teams with a current cumulative record of 181-253
  16. and I never thought I would mean it, but this team could definitely use a road trip
  17. I'll officially declare this century over when Sheets and Sabathia sign with the Cubs next season
  18. I'd say that it can't get any worse, but that's probably false and we'll probably watch it happen when they get dominated by Chuck "9+ ERA" James tomorrow night.
  19. Whoever posted that stat about David Riske should probably do some serious editing!
  20. it's just cool to have a leadoff hitter who isn't terrible at hitting
  21. I think one of those 63 may have been a Ben Sheets double in San Fran
  22. For me, it's not so much jumping ship on the season, but realizing that along with the Cardinals, there are going to be two other teams in the NL east to battle with fora playoff birth - getting off to the great start after the ASB put the Brewers in position to really set themselves up well and stay more than a series' worth of games away from any wild card competition. Instead, it appears they're going to have a 1-6 homestand, lose the wild card lead, and be amongst 3 other teams scratching for 1 playoff spot down the stretch. back to the game - it stinks that bush gave up those 2 taters to Edmunds, but in all honesty he's pitched very well aside from the 4th inning...that 2-out HBP to Derosa on an 0-2 count was huge..... ....and as I write this, Bush gives up a tater to Soriano - ugh, nevermind
  23. just 1 hit with a guy on second please
  24. it was a 2-out 2 run homer, but yeah that would be cool - it just currently sucks that Dave Bush gave up 4 runs in an inning where he got two quick outs and then started to face the bottom of their order
