  1. 18 games in 17 days. Thats a tough stretch. So I don't mind the days off. Just seems like Ned has a propensity to give a lot of the players the same day off. Mix it up a little. This is the biggest beef that I have with Yost's lineups. Young players have to have days off during this part of the season - especially ones that injury or lack of experience has prevented from going through an entire MLB season. The problem with how Yost handles his roster is that he'll play all the regulars 5 games in a row, and then seemingly empty his bench for the 6th game to give as many people an off day as possible. That keeps the bench players from getting consistent ABs, which sets the team up to fail when they get their opportunitiy all in the same game, and it also affects the regulars' energy level when they all get to that 4th and 5th game played in a row. The Brewers' bench has enough depth throughout to be able to give a regular an off day for each game, and replace him with a bench player that won't kill the lineup on a given day. There really isn't a reason why there should be more than 2 everyday players out of the lineup in any game. --------------------
  2. If Weeks is healthy, I'd honestly want him to bat leadoff the rest of the season and move Hart down to the #5 or #6 spot in the lineup, depending on where Hall bats. There is little proof of what I'm about to say other than Weeks' recent OBP surge - I think Weeks is primed to have a breakout two months to end this season, especially if his wrist is as healthy as what everyone associated with the team is says it is. His timing at the plate over the past week seems much better, and he's been making solid contact pretty consistently. -------------------------
  3. With what Weeks does when he gets on the basepaths (take out SS/2B trying to turn two, taking the extra base, putting pressure on the D), and with how he's seemed to at least creep out of his terrible OBP stretch, I think it's time to get him in the lineup at least 5 games a week again. Even through his struggles, you didn't see him moping or making excuses - that's an indication of what kind of mentality he has. When he does play, he needs to lead off, and drop Hart down to the #2 or #5 slot - Estrada is terrible hitting behind Fielder, and J.J.'s been in about a 45 game slump (his avg. is approaching .250, remember when it was .340??). The day Hall is back he better be hitting 5th. Weeks Hart Braun Fielder Hall Hardy Estrada Menchkins P That's what my lineup would be, and hopefully that lineup starts showing up by this weekend, when Hall's back on the roster. For the next week, i'd have no problem with Miller playing everyday, either - Estrada has been looking like a men's 16" softball player the past week or so. ---------------------
  4. this can be debated to the point of nauseum, all I have to add to the thread is if Milwaukee's "potent" offense could have managed more than 1 run in TWELVE at bats against the last place team in its division, who happens to have the worst pitching staff in the NL, we wouldn't have to argue about what amounts to a hill of beans over the course of a season. Just because cordero's a closer doesn't mean he has to pitch in every game that's close late - his arm would have fallen off by now. Milwaukee lost this game in the 11th, when they had the bases juiced, no outs, and didn't scratch a run across. So yes, had Cordero pitched the 12th, the Brewers probably get to the 13th...then what? If they don't score, do they run coco back out for the bottom half with 7 games still looming in 6 days? --------------------
  5. That had to have been Balfour's last opportunity to do anything on this team this year - at least I hope so. I can't jump all over Yost for not using Coco - he just pitched yesterday, plus there are still 7 more games this week...in 6 days. Plus, the way the offense was going gave no indication that the next inning would be the one they'd break through in. It stinks they lost this game, but most of the blame HAS to go to an offense that managed to score 1 run in 12 innings against the Reds. i don't care that they had Harang pitching, the Brewers looked awful against anyone the Reds were throwing out there. And Mr. Estrada, you are worthless! For the silver lining, Mr. Capuano, you've deserved a better fate in the last two starts you've made - nice to have you back to pitching effectively! ---------------------
  6. Mr. Balfour, your ticket to AAA is already in the clubhouse ----------------
  7. Braun's not gonna get an ab...ballgame's over already, we just don't know it -------------------
  8. I'll repeat, for the love of god, SCORE!! It stunk that Hart had to play in the seats out there in center to prevent gappers - it was probably so extreme because he obviously has trouble going back on balls. he's 6-6, had he timed his routes better he could have easily robbed the HR that Ross hit, and simply run under the double the Ross hit later that game. -------------------
  9. would have been an easy catch if Hart wasn't playing on the concourse out there ------------------
  10. Is there any doubt that Cincy's going to win this game this half inning? That was pathetic! ------------------------
  11. for the love of god, SCORE!! --------------
  12. huge inning right here for the Brewers - top of the reds order coming up -------------------
  13. so I think Corey Hart shouldn't be option #1 to play center...good thing Bill Hall's back soon! -------------

  15. Agreed - If Milwaukee continues to just win series (they don't have to sweep), it is going to be really tough for the Cubs to overtake them, especially since they only play each other 3 more times. The Cubs have been practically playing 0.800 baseball since mid June, that's not going to continue. With that incredibly hot stretch, they made up about 5 games of ground in the standings on Milwaukee. What most of their fanbase doesn't realize is that they would have gained at least 7-8 games of ground on the division leader had they played in any other division. Let's put it this way - the Cards and Cubs were both around 5 games back of Milwaukee at the same time. The Cards have played around 0.500 ball since then, and now they're 9.5-10 games behind the Brewers. The Brewers have been one of the hottest teams in baseball, it's just that the Cubs have been THE hottest during this same stretch. The incredible amount of breaks their team has been getting (and taking advantage of) lately isn't going to continue for the rest of the season. The Cubs aren't a sub-.500 team in the NL, but they also aren't an .800 winning percentage team either. ------------------
  16. The hilarity of the ESPN power ranking system - The red sox have played 1 game under .500 baseball since June 1, yet they haven't dropped below #3 in power rankings all season. The Yankees jump into the top 10 any time they have a winning streak of more than 4 games The Brewers, who currently have the best record in the NL, lose a spot or two in the rankings after going 5-2 right after the all star break. Do you see any hypocrisy in this? I understand the Cubs have been on absolute fire, and I see why ESPN can justify putting them ahead of other teams with better records based on recent play. The problem with that is the Booyah boys use that technique of judging teams selectively, otherwise Boston should be in the teens right now. Edit: I hope the Brewers continue to get shafted by media outlets such as ESPN - teams that network roots for have a way of not winning anything anyways. ---------------------
  17. take a look at the Cubs' lineup that they're running out today... if the Dbacks can't find a way to win this game (Webb on the mound, against Marquis), the Cubs may not lose until the season's over Go Dbacks!! -------------------
  18. Wise is going to finish this one? What does that say about Parra? I think that says that Parra's not on the trading block ---------------------
  19. Well, I think they are regrouping - Maybe someone will wake up at ESPN and realize that Milwaukee has been hovering about 0.5 games away from the NL's best record during their recent slump and actually write something intelligent. -------------------
  20. Wise gets multiple innings today so scouts from other teams can get a good long look at him. ...and the way he's started this inning looks like they might have already told him he's been traded - THROW STRIKES! ---------------
  21. If Manny doesn't get in this game, he's not going to pitch ever. I agree - even with Wise hitting this inning, at least give Parra the 9th -----------------
  22. Gabe Gross just gave us all hope that he can evolve into trade bait before the deadline --------------------
  23. like i said, i wanted to see the forfeit lineup erupt today!! --------------
  24. Gabe Gross needs to be given the wrong flight information as to when the Brewers leave on their next road trip ----------------------
