  1. Apropos of nothing (or almost nothing), whenever I see "Cesar" spelled the way Mr. Izturis spells it, I always think of the "Hungry Hungry Homer" episode of The Simpsons: Ghost of Cesar Chavez: I am the spirit of Cesar Chavez. Homer: Then why do you look like Cesar Romero? Ghost of Cesar Chavez: Because you don't know what Cesar Chavez looks like. For the uniform-number obsessed, Cesar Izturis hasn't been assigned a number just yet, but several other non-roster invitees have: Mike Rivera changes to no. 25 (so Alex Gonzalez can wear 11) Travis Ishikawa will wear no. 45 Edwin Maysonet changes to no. 29 (so I guess Dale really isn't coming back)
  2. I'll tell you, there's no better way to discover how many people you know are at a sporting event than to be shown on the videoboard/jumbotron, and then just sit back and wait for the day-after comments.
  3. Great! Then it'll be easy for us to pick you out. So, to continue what doesn't bug us...any of you Giants/Molitor Lot parkers remember Lee Roy, one of the long-timers who's been taking $ and passes at the entrance? He just sent us a Christmas card. Aww!
  4. Family section FTW! And since the H5s are an actual "family," if you have any Friday or Saturday games you stand a chance of being the Kohl's Family Section Family of the Game and scoring a $250 Kohl's card. (The childless hawing household is left out of this promotion - though we have appeared twice on the videoboard while the designated family of the game was being shown. All this despite our arguably being family section all-stars, dating back to the County Stadium family section days. But I digress.) For what it's worth, you may tell your daughter that she has a chance to get a head start on me, as I didn't begin following baseball until I was 16. I'm sure that will be highly meaningful to her. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. The hawing household was already contemplating a KC road trip in June 2012. This might just seal the deal. Were I a Royals fan, I'd totally nickname Yuni "Boomerang." And I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that if anyone can pry more out of Yuni on the field, it might well be Ned.
  6. You know what? My S.O.'s family hasn't asked us to bring any food to Christmas Eve dinner this year - which definitely has its up side since we have the farthest drive of the whole group, every year, but also means I don't have an opportunity to seek bf.net opinions like I did in the great relish tray thread of 2010. So I have a non-food, non-Christmas question instead: How long is long enough to retain a lost-and-found iPod before finding a way to reuse it? Someone left one in my library on October 1. The battery still had life so we found the owner's first name, but no other identifying information. UW-Madison's directory allows first-name-only searches, so we contacted all four students with this person's first name to see if they were missing an iPod. Only one replied, and it was a returning-adult student who kind of harrumphed about how in her day, when people lost items they actually tried to find them. (That was entertaining.) Do you think we've made enough of an effort? I mean, it's been 2 1/2 months. My guess is that someone realized her iPod was gone, shrugged and said, "oh well, now I can get a new one." So I'm *this close* to taking it home, copying my Christmas/holiday music onto it, and playing it in the circulation office while my students study for exams.
  7. I hate to temper your joy, but there isn't a backup guy yet. I'm not assuming until someone else is signed for that role. Incidentally, Alex will wear uniform no. 11, leaving Mike Rivera (if he makes the big club) to find something new.
  8. You don't think it was God's will for Loe to be shelled, thus helping STL advance to and win the WS, and the Pujolseses to be called to the Angels? Cosmic dominoes, every one of them necessary. I've got reasonable faith in Kameron if he's used properly. How properly he'll be used depends on RR and the rest of the bullpen's makeup.
  9. Per the roster at brewers.com, Jose Veras will wear uniform no. 40 - minus the Macha anti-mojo, with any luck.
  10. I've refreshed the forum page several times and keep being told that 0 users and 0 guests are online. Is there anybody out there? Am I really here?
  11. In our collective defense (all of us, not only staff), the Braun issue is about as negatively world-rocking as you can get for people who care about the Brewers. It would be disappointing (at least) to have this story break about any Brewer player, but having Ryan be the subject multiplies the emotions for all of us. The rumor that has become the latest tangent is something we'd normally discourage as a forum topic, but for better or worse it has become part of "the story." The Greinke issue seems like an instance of unfortunate timing, having broken just as most of us were still reeling from the Braun thing. I know I was reading tweets about Zack changing agents and thinking, "oh, NOW what?" However Ryan's issue turns out, my hope is that we all look at controversial breaking news about MLB players differently going forward. I am pretty sure that if this weekend's story had been about, say, Matt Holliday instead of Ryan, I just might have found it hilarious, or at least allowed myself to enjoy some schadenfreude. (DISCLAIMER: I know nothing fishy about Matt Holliday; I just plucked a name out of midair for someone many of us at least mildly dislike.) Since this weekend, if we have a semi- or flat out-celebratory response to another player's misfortune, we're pretty much chucking stones in glass houses. I've hoped for a long time that we might avoid knowing what it feels like to have one of our own under suspicion. Now we're getting an idea. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. You mean Gomez/Morgan, right? Not looking to nit pick; I'm just hoping Felipe Lopez didn't worm his way back.
  13. It was about to become mine. Rats.OK, I'll rephrase. If I were a radically different kind of poster, that could be a decent signature for me. I won't speak for every moderator, but I won't stop you.
  14. Man. On a different kind of forum that could be a decent signature. And to think that as recently as five days ago, none of this was on our minds.
  15. http://chelsea.theoffside.com/files/2010/10/picture-17.png Sorry, just the first thing I thought of upon reading Nottso's wisdom. Carry on.
  16. Thanks for playing, Takashi. I wonder if his interpreter stays with him.
  17. Just to represent the XX chromosomes, let's not forget that the McGehee family also has a daughter - who may have lacked the kid fame of her big brother, but has a pretty nifty first name (Cooper).
  18. So the Wolfotarras era may continue. That's nice for both Randy and George.Kind of sucks for Brewers fans though. Hurts to see Kottaras trotted out regardless of the handedness of the pitcher we are facing. For sure; it'd be best for maybe everyone involved if Randy could loosen up on the battery matchup. Wolfottaras just looks so happy hanging out in the dugout together.
  19. So the Wolfotarras era may continue. That's nice for both Randy and George.
  20. Ive always referred to him as Igna. Short for Ignoramis. Its a stretch IgnoAramis....... Thanks for the suggestion. If I had my 'druthers I'd pick something that doesn't insult a Brewer (Diego, for example, only insulted the fan who failed at the Triple Play Trivia in 2010), but at the moment this is first on the list. Well, also last. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. I can't count myself as really having been on the Casey McGehee bandwagon, but his '09 and '10 play certainly made him a favorite for those fans. He struck me as a solid guy (and it's impossible not to love little Mack), and I think that will play well in Pittsburgh. Thanks for playing, and try not to do to the Brewers what you tended to do vs. the Cub.
  22. Before today I had never heard of the Jump To Conclusions Mat, and now I've read two references to it (the other on Twitter). Here's one. More on-topic: I guess the last few days are reminding me that rooting for the team is more satisfying than rooting for individual players.
  23. With apologies in case this has already been explained in this thread...what warrants a 25 game vs. 50 game suspension?
