  1. Well, this won't matter to most anyone outside the hawing household, but July 1 is the day we're bringing the S.O.'s extended (and mostly Italian) family to the ballpark - so it's an almost perfect day for each of us to be getting an Italian bobblehead.
  2. Yovani. Nice. To me, the mouth looks like Yo; and I think they represented Luc's stubble about as well as they could on a bobblehead.
  3. We had our 2008 DVD in December 2008, so it was definitely issued in the off-season. It's possible that some with vouchers didn't get theirs until the 2009 season. I was hoping for a DVD too, if only because we lack a DVR and as such have zero video of any of the big home games. (Though we do have in-person memories, which is nothing to sneeze at.)
  4. If he darkens any door in Milwaukee, I'm on board with this. Longtime bf.net readers might remember my reliever rage when the Brewers (temporarily) took back Jaime Navarro. I was pretty sure it was a bad idea and look how that turned out. C-Patt would be worse yet. At least Navarro was passable his first time through. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, something-something. May he stay submerged in Nashville.
  5. I won't lie: April 22 is pretty much bobblehead eye candy day for me. http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif The extra we get that day is headed for my library desk on April 23.
  6. Those were some pretty bizarre "Hollywood celebrities." At least "Screech" would have made some sense due to his Wisconsin connection. This was the first On Deck visit for the hawing household since it moved from the ballpark to downtown. I'm not the autograph enthusiast that many of you are, but I enjoyed meeting George Kottaras and the Narvdog and will happily display their signed photo cards. I should probably go to at least one future On Deck, if only to see if I can improve my timing. I managed to just miss out on a slew of photo opportunities, not to mention the Jonathan Lucroy line (we had to shovel before we could leave for Milwaukee). I can, however, finally say I've met Bikeage77 in real life, not just on the internets; and it was fun for both me and the S.O. to hang out with thablingster. I also like the idea of a trading post-style meetup after future On Deck events.
  7. One of the things that struck me most about the 2002 all-star events was alllll the Brewers gear worn by fans. It seemed uncommon at the time. Imagine!
  8. If they go with that name I will only refer to it as NRG. Having said that, I did like the sound of "West Virginia Power."
  9. At Woodman's this afternoon, I saw a guy wearing a Rangers 2011 World Series cap. I thought about remarking on how we most likely share a common hatred, but decided to let him be. I also saw a woman with a Brewers purse, and a guy with a Brewers 2011 playoffs cap. A few nights ago, at the Wisconsin-Indiana game at the Kohl Center, J.J. Watt was in the crowd and modeled a dark red Brewers cap for the videoboard. Obviously I enjoy seeing Brewers gear in the off-season.
  10. Do any of you On Deck veterans know if wi-fi is available at the Frontier Airlines Center?
  11. I find it surreal just to see him wearing a tie with his shirt.
  12. That the 2011 benchmark is a franchise-record win total already increases the chances that the Brewers will fall shorter in 2012. Though if they won "only" 90 regular season games yet advanced past the NLCS, would we mind?
  13. Oh, here's another happy-memories post from that same IGT (and also courtesy of PeaveyFury): Good, good times.
  14. There you go. I'm going to do my best to stick to this line of thinking. Anyone else thinking back to this game tonight? Here is one of my all-time favorite bf.net posts, this one courtesy of PeaveyFury: Thanks for playing, Prince. I'm happy you happened to us.
  15. Is Taint McFadden our mascot yet? If not, why not? Are you thinking of 'anomaly'? I'm not a stats person either, so if I'm way off, cut me some slack.
  16. 1918, per someone's tweet this afternoon.
  17. Coors Field tour - since you won't be able to attend a game in March.
  18. The Deadspin report linked above makes total sense. I have no doubt, or as little doubt as I can have given that I did not know the man, that football + PSU combined to be Mr. Paterno's life. I can only imagine the void he must have felt once that ended - especially as abruptly and badly as it did. To go from beloved-for-decades icon to perceived (a word I use because opinion is split and we now may never know his full side of the story) scandal participant in a matter of days had to be a terrible shock. Add to that the physical shock of contending with cancer, and that seems like a steep challenge for anyone. It could be my XX chromosomes talking, but I feel especially bad for Mrs. Paterno. She's gone from wife of beloved icon to wife of (perceived) scandal participant to widow in under three months. There's really nothing about this chain of events that isn't sad.
  19. I'm glad you posted that. There's a Wing Stop in Madison as well (for Madison veterans, it occupies the space once known as the Taco John's on Regent) and I was wondering why they had a "100+" beverage flavor sign in their window. No one in our household is heavily into wings, but the prospect of Caffeine Free Diet Cherry Vanilla (or another flavor) Coke? That might just lure us in. If Miller Park went to Coca-Cola Freestyle, I might never leave. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. To be completely nitpicking, Vernor's is a ginger soda. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. I didn't. But the precipitation had stopped, so no hundreds of needles anymore. Yay?
  22. That's right. How're you doing with the royalty payments for the person who gave you the tip about the inclines? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif And woah, if the Renaissance was definitely not $269 a night when we stayed there, though that was summer 2002 and we had a mid-week stay. If it gets in your price range, it's very nice. It used to be an office building but you can scarcely tell when you're in a room. Plus I was often looking out the window and geekily saying things like, "Look! Now the Pirates are coming up to bat."
  23. I've been in the "why not try Corey at 1B" camp, if only to see how many more errant throws he could catch than Prince could. If I were Mat, though, I'd feel pretty dissed. Unless reverse psychology has become a new feature of Doug's roster management.
  24. Snow's flying pretty good in Madison, if you define "good" as "perfectly angled to hit northbound pedestrians in the face with the sting of hundreds of needles." This had better mean I'll have the wind at my back on the way home tonight.
  25. Amen to this. My SO is diabetic and he doesn't always want a ton of caffeine in the evening, but at most establishments it's either caffeine, sugar or both. He gets the designated-driver soda voucher at the ballpark and his only choice has been Diet Pepsi (though admittedly it probably helps him stay awake on the drive home from games). I don't much like cola either, unless it has cherry or vanilla flavor, and caffeine at a night game will keep me up all night - so I usually either get lemonade or bring in my own G2. We were both impressed with Progressive Field in Cleveland when we visited in 2009 - their menu included Diet Dr. Pepper. Vernor's is great and I would love to enjoy one at a game. Sadly, the only place I've seen 20 oz bottles of it is in Michigan. (On a barely related note, are any other chat room regulars paying attention to this thread and thinking back to some of our legendary soda rallies?)
