  1. The NWS started talking about this on Tuesday (though the Storm Prediction Center doesn't go out more than a 2-3 days). Some of you already know of the hawing party's unusual and perverse talent for encountering severe weather between Madison and Miller Park - so my only cynical surprise is that it'll take almost a full week into the Brewers' home season before we run into something (I hope not literally). Edit: and this morning's hazardous weather outlook suggests that the SPC may change the threat for Sunday to "high."
  2. I look forward to hearing for myself whether Cali changed his walkup music.
  3. I'll second that! Now I'll go back to steeling myself against those visiting fans who don't all quite get the concept that they're "visiting" and not "home."
  4. That was entertaining. You could say he had me at "Y'ello." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. On the bit of Roenicke press conference that was just played on the radio, a reporter asked about the "Nyjer Morgan Experience." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. 3-1 and two Monday swings away from a sweep - over the highly touted Braves, with our lineup not at 100%. Indeed, it looks good. I'm not counting on the Wisconsin State Journal to retract its "LOST CAUSE" headline earlier this week, but it looks better. Edit: Tony Plush is Cory's Chevrolet Star of the Game. Except he called him Nyjer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Oh, Fredi. Don't you realize YuBet will not hit if I am not at the park? Oh, well, c'mon, Plush.
  8. I haven't designed my own before, but I did order two custom shirts in February. It took a few weeks, but not six. I'd begun thinking of a custom PLUSH t-shirt at Wednesday's game, or at least a PLUSH 2 avatar. Obviously I didn't act quickly enough. Last year, the terrace level fan store had a custom counter where you could choose a name and number - not on an "authentic" shirsey, i.e. not navy - but the font is correct. Last year I got a custom Lucroy, navy on gray, for maybe $25. It was a Wednesday night, so it's possible the walk-off Wednesday discount applied, but it was cheaper than I thought. Incidentally, now that my mom has left, I'm in the chat room, as is panama74. Come join us!
  9. Well, the crowd was barely half the size of Monday's. I thought that was New Noise being played. Did they play the beginning of the song, or a few minutes in as Right Field Bleachers suggested? It didn't sound like I'd expected, though I'm not an expert. It's weird how we've been present for every one of YuBet's hits this young season; now also Mark Kotsay's. Indeed, the JV-style lineups seem to do a passable job when we are at games. Marco (Bob once said Erik) Estrada kind of pitched like an injury callup, but so did Minor. Marco has also changed uniform numbers again, wearing #41 for this start. Anyway, I think it's time for the Brewers to recognize our worth to the organization and pay us to follow the team in person all season. Scoreboard note: I found a place where the Brewers are at least attempting to show scoring plays. At the end of some plays tonight they temporarily replaced the pitch count at each end of the ribbon board with the SACRIFICE or F-8 or 6-4-3 or whatever. I don't remember noticing that on Monday. Unfortunately, they didn't do it for all plays (and never for the last of a half-inning) and sometimes when they did, they either lost control or lost track of the pitch count - it was often incorrect. I still think they should be able to carve some space out of that huge videoboard for a few seconds per play of scoring decision. 1-1 now for the hawing season tickets. We're off the schneid too!
  10. After Tuesday night, this feels like a JV lineup. Still, go Brewers. You can do better than 1-161.
  11. Way to get off the schneid, Brewers. Thanks to the TV gods for making this game available to so many (though I don't want to begrudge the opportunity for those without cable). Real thanks to Yo.
  12. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/510HX6CW8HL._SL500_AA300_.jpg It's time. Stop the madness.
  13. pitch, the blacked out advertisement is most likely for Potawotami. They cover it when the Brewers play the Braves. I suppose they would for a series with Cleveland too. There was also no Crazy Cap Shuffle yesterday, and we think that is why. (Oddly, the Potawotami logos on the dugout roofs were visible. We're going again Wednesday and I'll recheck if I think of it.) Also, pitch, I can't comment on the big advertising thing behind home plate because our seats don't allow us to see it. Robin19, I was in position to see the frizzed out part of the ribbon board, once I leaned forward a bit. It was frizzed for a while before the game began. During the game, I noticed the "stuck" pitch count before I realized the ribbon board was dark. I'd like to think that is testament to how I was following the game instead of being wowed by shiny things. It does seem plausible that the videoboard was OK but temporarily forgotten while staff worked on the ribbon board.
  14. Whoops, I meant the next game we are scheduled to attend is Wednesday's, but I wish we could go back Tuesday night already. I forgot to add above that the Time Warner Triple Play Trivia contest did not appear today. Now I don't know how I'm going to playfully mock fans who are less consumed by Brewers minutiae than I am. Remember, without the TPT failure last April, the Diego nickname for Jim Edmonds would have never come to be. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. I was at the game and like a rookie just entering the show, was just happy to be there. After years of hearing Brewerfan posters' tales of extra rampant drunkenness, rumbles in the seats and concourses, and general obnoxiousness, I was surprised to find that the crowd around us was pretty normal. It did seem like the terrace concourse was especially active, and our friends in terrace guest relations said they had a busy day, so maybe I was just one of those dorks actually staying in my seat and watching the game. Our terrace box featured both a Jim Edmonds (signed) jersey wearer and a Mitch Stetter jersey wearer, so there was a decent degree of hard-core-dom in our immediate vicinity. The scoreboard is a big mother, and it is really bright. In most of the photos I took of it, everything around the scoreboard looks much darker than it really was. It did fail for part of an inning - the ball/strike/out counter got stuck and the ribbon board went dark - and it looked like the wrong button got pushed on a few occasions. It displays a lot more information during at-bats, but to me did not seem as "busy" as I'd anticipated. One element I found not carried over from the old scoreboard is the scoring decision for each play (6-4-3 or HBP or The Walk Is Intentional). I missed that. I actually like pitchers' duels, so I didn't find the game dull. The Brewers did lose much of the crowd after a while, but I expected that for the home opener. I agree with thablingster: we and the players need to ride this out until the "real" roster is more in place. Without Jonathan and Corey, it doesn't feel to me like the 2011 Brewers are really here. (I'd include Greinke in that last sentence if I truly felt like he was a Brewer yet.) I'm simply glad we're in the fun six months of the year now. Our next game is Wednesday and I wish it were Tuesday instead.
  16. Ah, adamb, you beat me to the creation of this thread. Madison just had a brief round of hail. We heard a few loud thumps on the house and I've got Facebook friends posting photos of marble to quarter-sized hailstones. With the amount of severe weather in southern Wisconsin tonight, I'm mildly surprised we don't have a ball game to go to until tomorrow.
  17. Just don't anyone kiss Bronson Arroyo. Come on, Brewers, get off the schneid.
  18. I have an empty space on the wall in my library office that is crying out for a 2011 poster. So come on, Brewers.
  19. See, I'd only do that if the stadium wi-fi were free. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif It still wouldn't be the nerdiest Brewers thing I do.
  20. We'll find out soon enough if anyone else has seen it already, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in Sunday's paper to get the largest audience. (Actually, if this happens and someone gets a spare copy and is willing to save it for a non-Milwaukeean, let me know.)
  21. I still drink, clap and munch when I keep score. I also get up to go to the bathroom and such, but it helps I always go to games with a boyfriend who enjoys keeping score for an inning or two. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I'm already invested in the game, but if you miss an at-bat it's not hard to figure out what happened and score accordingly. I know I'm not that strict. As far as what to do with scorebooks, I've never had one before but I bet it would be fun to look through at the end of the year. Especially since I see myself making little notes on the side. (e.g. Get a haircut Gomez!) And I knew I could count of my fellow bf.net-ers to appreciate my scorebook purchase!Like Principessa, I attend games with my S.O., and when we decide to score a game we take turns with the scorebook so no one has to miss out on food, drink, bathroom or cheering. Along with the traditional scorebook markings, we record a variety of minutiae, some of which is probably of general interest and some of which is surely important only to us: sausage race winner, time of the national anthem (that's the S.O.'s detail, not mine), game time temperature, triple play trivia answers, and whatever strikes our fancy. We scored 3 or 4 games last year (out of about 30 we attended) and by coincidence two of them turned out to be my favorite games of the year. Corey had a walkoff home run the day before the all-star break, and the August 6 comeback win against the Astros (featuring the improbable Inglett Crush). Looking over those sheets now reminds me of how much fun those games were. We'll probably score at about the same pace in 2011 - not Monday (too much going on then), but a game here and there. We found a scorebook from the 1990s once, with more or less random games in it, and that was kind of a trip down memory lane - in that "isn't it nice we don't have to rely on Moutons anymore?" way. So yeah, we've looked through past scored games before. It's fairly nerdy, but in no way is it the nerdiest baseball thing I do.
  22. If having and using a scorebook makes me a dork, then I'll gladly join Principessa21 in dorkdom. We don't score every game we attend, though since the Brewers won each game we scored last year, maybe we should start.
  23. Welcome back, Jake, and thanks!
  24. This thread is a sight for sore eyes. Bring on 2011! Have fun and good luck, Brewers.
