  1. Channel 27 in Madison had a bit of coverage Thursday night that included footage of our own zachlaka and an interview with one of the arctic tailgaters in his party. (I guess football talk in Madison finally subsided for a few minutes.)
  2. Does anyone remember a ball-glove logo beach towel giveaway? For my birthday this week I received just such a towel, sealed in its original plastic bag. Based on its specific logo, with the "milwaukee brewers" lettering, I'm guessing it's from the mid to late 1980s: http://www.robertsnyder.net/logos/brewersglovelogo25.gif The towel is mostly gold on the front and white on the back. I like it as an item, so I'm not interested in its monetary value; but I am just curious whether it started as a SGA or simply a fan store item from back in the day. My mother found it at a rummage sale.
  3. I think it's but a matter of time before something related to Jason Kendall and "Rewind Yourself" lands in the WOAH SOLVDD forum. Instant classic.
  4. Well, it's a contest, so my guess is only one (or two, if they follow the Brewers' pattern) item will advance to the actual menu, at which point they'll price it.
  5. Sweet merciful crap. Just looking at some of those descriptions makes me feel less healthy. However, this description is hilarious, especially the part I italicized:
  6. Nooo! So, we'll be seeing Kottaras, Nieves or Rivera (or one of those other guys) as the Brewers' catcher candidate on the all-star ballot. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  7. That's a shame for anyone who appreciates good pitching. Keep in mind, though, there but for the grace of the baseball gods go the Brewers. /lunging to knock on wood
  8. Whoa, I'm pretty sure it was a photo of Rickie on Sunday. Something must have gone haywire with the link. So - lighter skin tone for Rickie, and longer hair than I'd thought. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. As a longtime season ticket holder in the family section, I agree. I understand that the home opener must be enough of an "enforcement" nightmare for guest relations staff already, and it's not that I can't stand anyone having a beer in the vicinity, but I figure we stand less of a chance of being puked on in 417/217, and call me a weirdo but I don't think avoiding vomit should be too much to ask. We have been contemplating actually using our opening day tickets this year, but Buckhunts' observation frankly gives me pause. It would also be helpful if the Brewers could find a way to convey that suspension of policy to their season ticket holders in those sections. I know we aren't the only customers who invest in seats in those sections for a reason.
  10. To be fair, Corey was only excluded from the opening day starting lineup in 2010. He was on the roster. Sorry - carry on.
  11. Congratulations! That is pretty sweet. Three cheers for history nerds. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. I believe the 30 day wait pertains only to posting in Trading Post, not viewing it. Someone from the Brewers would have to join in order to be able to see a Trading Post thread, though.
  13. The bobbles that do find their way to the urinals will be covered in some classy urine though. Wouldn't it be classier to sell the Zack bobbles on eBay for a king's ransom?
  14. D'oh, Invader's post overlapped with my edit. I hope the Counsell bobble features his original batting stance. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Per the Brewers' Facebook page Wednesday morning: April 24 - John Axford May 22 - Casey McGehee June 12 - Zack Greinke July 10 - Famous Racing Sausage Hot Dog August 14 - Craig Counsell September 25 - Randy Wolf The Brewers.com promotional schedule page also now has content, though (apart from bobbleheads) it's likely still subject to change. Edit: The link above includes a photo of the Axford bobble. Nice. Real nice! http://mlb.mlb.com/mil/images/schedule/y2011/im_axford_180x150.gif There is also a Miller Lite Beer Vendor bobblehead giveaway (not to all fans, of course), on Saturday, July 30.
  16. The winner has been announced. Or is that winners? Edited to add the press release.
  17. If I recall correctly, Backupcatchers owns a balloon business - the kind of place you'd turn to when planning a party or special event. So having youngish employees who don't mind dressing in a gorilla costume doesn't seem entirely outlandish in that context. If I don't recall correctly, I'm sure I'll be corrected post haste. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Anyway, BUC, I hear you on losing great teenaged employees. All of my employees are college students and high turnover is the norm. I can't tell you how many times I've wondered, over the last 20+ years, how I was going to replace one student or another...but somehow, someone always steps up. (I would call it a bonus that your new employee likes Monty Python enough to be able to quote parts of it, though since my observation has been that people either love or hate Monty Python, obviously not everyone would see it that way.)
  18. That was cool. I'm not saying I want to move to Canada or anything, but I really like O Canada as a song, and prefer it to The Star-Spangled Banner as an "anthem." Having heard a ton of different renditions of the U.S. national anthem at Miller Park and elsewhere, the S.O. and I have developed specific opinions (fortunately, ours are about the same) of what makes an anthem performance good. We both prefer a relatively straightforward performance to the all-too-common American-Idol-ized versions. "Diva-ed Up" is also a good phrase, though that kind of performance is definitely not limited to women singers. We've also discussed several time over the years whether the anthem is a performance (i.e. the rest of us listen to the performer/s) or a sing-along. Some renditions seem more appropriate with audience silence, or (as 1992casey mentioned) are near-impossible with which to sing along. I usually don't sing along because I want to hear the performer/s. My favorite MP performance (to date) of the national anthem was 2-3 years ago by a quartet from the Mount Horeb Fire Department. I heard that one on the radio and had goose bumps and teary eyes by the end - and I'm not one to wear patriotism on my sleeve.
  19. (1) The Packers are 1-0 lifetime while an HDTV has been in our house. Happy to help it happen. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif (2) Football has ended, in the best possible way no less, which means baseball's next! Baseball baseball baseball!
  20. It's a little strange, being the only registered user online at Brewerfan. It's only not surprising, given what else is going on.
  21. For the most part I lack that killer competitive instinct that makes Americans Americans...but when Bo owns Izzo I make an exception. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. HDTV...in time not only for Super Bowl Sunday, but Puppy Bowl Sunday. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
