  1. OK, see, my Brewers dorkiness is such that when I see a Madison Metro bus, I associate the route number with whoever wears the corresponding uniform number on the roster. The routes nearest our house are 3, 7, 19 and 58, and I've been riding the 3 to work lately. Now I'll be thinking of it as the Yuni bus. So yes, I feel kind of Yunied. I may have to start getting up earlier again and aim for the Yount. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I was pretty happy the first time I saw a route 37 bus and realized it was no longer the Suppan bus, but the Rogers bus.
  2. *Like*(oops, wrong website) Backstory: The designated driver video that has been shown before games at MP for several years now featured Robin19 at its very end...with someone who's now an ex. Nice (if unintentional) reminder, especially game after game after game. There may be a slight silver lining in that Robin19's season seats are located where I'd think it would be difficult to see the videoboard, but from our seats we have a clear view, and I sighed for Robin19 and his current S.O., game after game after game.
  3. Per the Brewers' active roster, Yuni's uni number is 3. Talk about setting a guy up for failure.
  4. Blizzard takes off part of Wrigley Field's roof
  5. Apologies if this got its own thread in Major Leagues (because it kind of warrants one), but it's also weather related: Blizzard takes off part of Wrigley Field's roof
  6. Our front sidewalk (we live on a corner) is one long drift. I've never seen that before. Also, the snow + wind keep turning on our motion detector light in the back.
  7. Thundersnow looks like lightning because how do you draw thunder? Tonight we walked from Library Mall to the Kohl Center for the basketball game (with the wind), then back to my building on Library Mall to get my backpack (against the wind), then to University & Park to catch a bus home. Sweet merciful crap. After the 10 minute walk against the wind, I had snow deep in the slash pockets of my winter coat - on both the right and left sides. Scott Walker closed state agencies in the counties affected by this storm to the public on Wednesday, so I have a snow day. Biddy Martin called a snow day for UW-Madison; we were at the Kohl Center when the text alert went out to students and we didn't really need to check Facebook or wisc.edu to see what they were cheering about. I'll tip my cap to Madison Metro, as the bus we took was only about seven minutes behind schedule...unless it was the scheduled bus from half an hour before, but even if that was the case, it got us home at a pretty decent clip. Interesting night all around. This storm is as advertised, and Madison isn't even supposed to get the worst of it.
  8. Thundersnow is so cool...as long as the lightning isn't striking someone or something, I guess. I can't make the image link here, but the Sally Forth comic strip (which is usually a combination of hackneyed and weird) for February 1 is perfectly timed for the current forecast and the media's coverage of it. Edit: Here we go! http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs016.snc6/166664_1804183150064_1404434242_1959857_5232388_n.jpg
  9. The Wisconsin State Journal in Madison mentioned the project in today's paper. February 1. Thanks, WSJ.
  10. Welcome, Alex. I think your screen name is clever. If at all possible, I suggest that you not make your first MP experience one where the Brewers are hosting the Cubs or Twins, for a couple of reasons: (1) it will be harder to get tickets, and more expensive since the Brewers have designated those as "marquee" series; and (2) those games draw more than the usual number of visiting team's fans, which increases the chance of (some would say guarantees) ugly behavior in the stands and concourses. If you can only visit when the Cubs or Twins are in town, post here to say so, because I would frankly give different advice on where to sit for those games. It's also possible (though no guarantee) that someone here on the board would be able to help you acquire tickets for an otherwise tough game. Post here when you have more of an idea of when you'll be visiting. Many of the board members who attend games regularly tailgate in the parking lots beforehand, and since we are generally a friendly bunch, you might be able to partake in a nice American outdoor meal before you even enter.
  11. A pink hot dog frankly makes me think of something uncooked.
  12. The map OWBC linked above is from the Milwaukee/Sullivan NWS page. I looked at it sometime Sunday afternoon and the forecast for Madison was "only" 15.some inches then. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I have a feeling we'll be walking home from the UW-Purdue game tomorrow night. Since it starts at 6:00, we'd already planned to just walk over from work, but if it's blizzard conditions by 8:00, taking Metro home will take about as long, if we catch a bus at all.
  13. Waah, I miss the rummage sale. But we attended the growth chart game last year, so I already have one of those.
  14. I think it would be a fundamental improvement if Witrado's successor were someone who likes the Brewers, or at least doesn't dislike them. Brainerd appears to fall into that category. His writing, which I admit I have not sampled, may be better than his on-screen presence. I also won't be surprised if 1992casey's observation above turns out to be right on target - that some of the quality level of Brewers beat writers at the JS can be traced to how the JS wants things done.
  15. I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned the "meat tornado." I told the S.O. as we watched that Brewerfan P&R fans would be all over that.
  16. I've seen a "sliders" menu item at MP - I want to say in 2009, though I could be off by a year either way - which was basically three little sausages in little buns. I don't recall if it was a three pack of the same sausage or a variety pack. The S.O. tried it once and said it was OK but not a $9 value. I'm eager for something in a pretzel roll now. Someone find me a pretzel roll in downtown Madison!
  17. Brewers.com video on concession contest Doug Melvin favors poutine and that! A few of the near-misses are visible or mentioned in the video, like bacon wrapped hotdogs and a turkey burger with avocado on a pretzel roll. Yum. A chef interviewed in the clip stated that the Brewers now have a smoker.
  18. I wondered the same, RyDogg. My guess is that the selection of these four items as finalists means that Brewers employees did at least some vetting of options, i.e. the Brewers must consider these to be plausibly salable at Miller Park. I would also not be surprised if the winning entry becomes a "club level only" option, where skewer fights might be less likely than, say, in terrace reserved. Edit: My coworker, who is not a sports fan, asked if the poutine might come with contact information for nearby cardiologists, or maybe even Brewers-colored stents. This could be a terrific tie-in with Froedtert, whom I assume/hope is still a Brewers sponsor.
  19. Vote on brewers.com Over the last month or so, the Brewers solicited recipes for a new addition to the Miller Park menu. They've narrowed down the field to four finalists, on which fans can vote until midnight on February 3. (Voting does require submitting your name and contact information to mlb.com.) The choices are Chicken Parmesan Sandwich, Famous Racing Sausage Kabobs, Poutine with Cheese Curds, and Tilapia Fish Tacos.
  20. I'm all about the Puppy Bowl and its Kitty Halftime Show. Though Animal Planet shows it 3-4 times on SB Sunday, so watching the puppies need not preclude watching the football.
  21. Ohhhh. Border battle FAIL.
  22. Too bad there was no Brewerfan.net in 1999, as we could have had a member summit that day. We stuck around for about three hours of the rain delay, and had a great time wandering around the stadium and taking photos. An usher let us in the mezzanine for a little while, which was nice because that was where we'd sat for our first date in 1989. Aww. For a while they were showing an NFL game on the 20th-century scoreboard. The photo I took of the S.O. in the mezzanine has NFL video in the background. I think I have a photo CD of the photos from that day somewhere...I'll have to look around. I wasn't nervous at all for the NLDS games in Milwaukee. After that one Game 2 swing of the bat from horrible Shane Victorino, I had mostly accepted that the Brewers wouldn't advance. So that Game 3 in Milwaukee was possibly my most-enjoyed game ever, from start to finish. I'd waited over a quarter century to experience a playoff game in person and I still marvel that my wish was finally granted. It was wonderful to just enjoy it with no worries.
  23. TLB said previously that he didn't save the broadcast. Overture Center makes a lot of sense, though. Interesting, the detour this hoops thread has taken. I tell you, this academic year has been all about football.
  24. I asked McCalvy if this sign lights up like the previous one did, and he said it does. The McCalvy link provided by pretendastronaut above says the new Miller Park sign is backlit. To me that sounds different than "lights up," as the MP sign above the original scoreboard did. We'll find out soon enough, though really it can't be too soon, can it? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. I wouldn't assume that just yet. They might not advertise it until they decide on the opening date for single game ticket sales.
