  1. At the Memorial Union today, someone in a retro jersey (I didn't check the back to see if it was personalized) nodded at me in my ball-glove logo cap in the main concourse. Was it someone from here? I think we need a bf.net code phrase, or secret handshake or symbol to flash or something.
  2. I'm sorry to not have an answer to your question. But I am delighted to be able to apply the 'zombie' tag to a second thread.
  3. Seconded. It's not accurate to let the bad apples spoil the entire bushel. The tricky thing is that the bad apples are the easiest to remember, whether pedestrians, bicyclists or motorized vehicle operators. I haven't biked much since I was a student, but when I did I was a traffic law follower to a nerdy degree. It sort of paid off once. I stopped at the State/Lake intersection mentioned by RU above, and a police officer waved me over. I was ready to get really incensed, because I couldn't imagine how she could have cause to pull me over. But it was part of a campaign to reward bicyclists for doing the right thing, and I got a Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza coupon just for "doing my job" and stopping at a stop sign. (So at least one bicyclist in the history of the world has stopped at that stop sign.) Just because I'm already posting, I'll add that when I'm walking home on one of Madison's fine bike-pedestrian paths, some bicyclists almost clip me as they pass - and on the path, I'm so far over to the right that I'm almost walking in the grass/dirt. But most give a wide berth.
  4. You mean they're only called "mojo potatoes" at Shakey's? There goes a part of my belief system. I'll distract myself with a pie chart: http://www.seriouseats.com/required_eating/images/threadless-piechart.gif
  5. These charts are impeding my attempts to not laugh out loud in the library. Now, seriously, this pitcher is named Jo-Jo? Not unlike "Jo Jo was a man who thought he was a loner"? Because I already curse Jo-Jo Reyes for firmly planting "Get Back" in my mind today.
  6. http://www.exploratorium.edu/baseball/activities_images/bounce_chart.gif This chart shows the relative bounciness of various types of balls.
  7. If brewerjamie15 were reading tonight, he'd surely state that Dave Bush had a quality start. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. I think this was the third Dave Bush start we've attended this year. Each time the splits have looked just bad on paper, but the Brewers have found a way to do all right. Dave and I will be negotiating my cut of his salary. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif So, quality start for Dave (even though it often didn't feel like it), a dozen hits for Milwaukee (including a bunch that seemed well hit, only right at someone), effective bullpen (including no fightin' by Tavarez), and a win in the end? Not the prettiest ever, but I'll take it. 5-3 on the hawing ticket now. And BuckyTuba got to see a win! Line of the night, overheard from a kid behind us who was apparently eager to see the Brewers come up to bat: "I don't like it when they pitch!" (edited to remove impression that the Brewers actually had more than 12 hits)
  9. Acta argued, the umps got together and changed the call to a HR. So some managers can get calls reversed?
  10. The D-List, via Tom Haudricourt, is now reporting that Juilan Tavarez will be signing with the Brewers as soon as he passes a physical. What can we as internet geek fans do to help manipulate the results of the physical? Think of something, quickly! He is better than Zach Jackson This should be bulletin board material for ZachJack.
  11. Madison hasn't been really walloped yet, but our cats have acted nervous all evening, like they're anticipating something. Also creepy.
  12. Aw, Manny, please don't follow up a near-miss inning with a big bad inning.
  13. Just from hearing the bottom of the 9th on the radio, I would have benched Hall immediately after the second error, and possibly after the first. Dude needs a message. Maybe 3TO will help send it. But nice work otherwise, Brewers.
  14. Ahh, the Russell Branyan honeymoon thread. Welcome back, Muscle. I suppose Dave Bush isn't going to relinquish number 31, so we'll have to get used to you wearing another uni number. 1992casey beat me to the suggestion to bring back the 3TO shirts, so instead I'll publicly ask mothershipconnection to bring back the Oakley shades avatar. http://www.mlb.com/images/2005/04/06/dL9ogG5m.jpg Look closely at Russell's face! He's got them on!
  15. Oh, no. Not the crazy guy. (One of my early 2000s employees - a Cardinals fan, no less - and I dubbed Tavarez 'the crazy guy' years ago.) This sounds like the kind of acquisition that fans like us would describe for years hence, in places just like this, as a turning point, a low point, a point of no return, a rock-bottom point in the Melvin era. If this happened, Julian Tavarez could be to Doug Melvin's legacy what Paul Molitor was to Sal Bando's legacy, or what Jeffrey Hammonds was to Dean Taylor's. Doug, for once, trust some freaking internet geeks and don't do this. Or, put in a more level-headed way, I agree with Brian's hope in post #8 above.
  16. The Culver's on the south Beltline in Madison now features baseball decor, with signed Brewers and Braves jerseys and photos.
  17. No cardinal in your outfit? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Unless they've changed the route significantly, part of it goes through our current 'hood (by the Edgewood campus). Can you predict what time you'll be over there? Because Jimbo was able to predict it for himself a few years ago, and that was very convenient. Another part of it usually goes either past or near "our" old street. We're going to Tuesday's game. TB 417, either row 5 or 6, seats 1-2. If the rotation holds, Dave Bush is just going to have to come through for BuckyTuba.
  18. With all due respect to JohnBriggs12, put me down for the Gorman Thomas trade. June 6, 1983 (I didn't have to look up the date). I remember where I was when I heard about it. I didn't cry, but I was greatly disappointed. I've disliked Rick Manning - fairly or unfairly - ever since. So if it's a curse, how do they break it? Sign Gorman for a day?
  19. An earlier thread has information about this promotion. (It was a few pages back, thus easily overlooked.)
  20. Series win, in PNC.
  21. Seriously, the Brewers' low-water attendance mark this year (to date) is 23905.
  22. I hope Doug pitches in Milwaukee in June. Another day to happily wear my Davis jersey.
  23. OHP, I've had the teeth-falling-out dream too. I couldn't begin to guess what that signifies. Once my mother actually had a tooth break in her mouth - the filling was just too old. I mentioned that I'd had dreams about that kind of thing before and she said, "wow, no wonder you had that look on your face when I told you about it."
  24. Jim Powell did not report any details.
  25. 11761 paid to see this one. I'm skeptical that a five figure number has actually shown up tonight. There's at least one very determined "Let's Go Bucs" chanter at PNC.
