  1. Thanks. I enjoyed your gameday avatar too (though I would have preferred that the at-bat hadn't turned out as it did).
  2. Blingster, that wouldn't happen to be from that questionable strikeout he had vs. the Cubs last year, would it? Or is it just random frustration?
  3. How much of your overall trip to NY would the musical take up? I'm not a big fan of that kind of show myself, but if it's on Broadway, and it doesn't eat up like half your time there, I'd give it a go just for the experience. You can sit in a bar for a couple of hours anywhere.
  4. There may be no one for whom the current posted detour is more of an inconvenience than someone just trying to get back to Lake Mills, so I can see why BHF would be frustrated (not to mention the frustration level of the game you'd just been at). We noted the extreme length of detour on the closure map yesterday and were trying to figure out an alternative to going that far out of the way; but upon seeing that 18 is closed in a few spots too, I think we are just going to take 43 straight from Milwaukee when coming home tonight. It'll be well out of the way, but considering that rain and storms are in the forecast again tonight, and we're not experts in navigating Jefferson County in the dark, we both feel more comfortable taking the long way in this case. I don't want to take 18 or 12 and discover a new closure that popped up today or tonight. Plus, not every closed road has a posted detour. One of my coworkers has to take the interstate northwest from Madison to North Dakota today, so that her husband's ashes can finally be interred at a military cemetery there (he died this winter). So she has even more twists and turns to make, and for the saddest of reasons besides. I don't specifically want to sound all fuddy-duddy, but things could always be worse.
  5. I hate games like this too, and I know the opponent makes things extra charged - but this IGT is starting to read like the vent thread in spots. Please don't hesitate to use it. Thanks.
  6. Try this link. Googling "stop credit card offers" brought up many more results than that. To add something that's bugging me...adults who let their children (or children for whom they are temporarily responsible, as in a chaperone's role) run around the inside of Memorial Union willy-nilly. I understand that kids need to release energy, but that wasn't the best time or safest place for it. Be the grownup!
  7. As always, wOOgiE22 makes some very fine pitcher photo choices. Dave Bush looks downright menacing, despite an absence of facial hair; while Kevin Slowey's picture makes me think just a little bit of late character actor Robert Donner: http://www.cinefantastico.com/terroruniversal/newsletter/imagen/homenaje_donner.jpg (my image choice is a little strange, but I chose it for its multiple shots) Anyway, while watching tonight I'm going to call the Twins starter Yancey for old times' sake. Go Brewers!
  8. For crying out loud...the tornado watch Dane and counties to the south and east have been under since early afternoon just got extended to 2:00 AM. Also, there is a flash flood warning for most every county in southern Wisconsin until 1:30 AM. Who needs to be able to sleep through the night anyway?
  9. Oh, man, that is bad. (I thought about quoting you so it was crystal clear what's so bad, but I don't want to dignify that line with a copy and paste.)
  10. This is for West Bend Mutual insurance ("the silver lining"). If it bothers you on TV, careful if you go to Miller Park, because West Bend sponsors the out of town scoreboard now, and the ad plays (without sound) on the out of town scoreboards between EVERY half inning. The lottery bugs me in general (which is another topic for another board, I realize), as do most of the ads for it. However, I don't as much mind the "What do you get..." ads because jwill535 said they make him think of me. So I actually chuckle a bit now when I hear them (either 20 or 30 mil).
  11. i did that once at a snake enclosure and got the snake to strike. then the zookeeper yelled at me. Well, then, I hope you're not within shooting distance of brewers19.
  12. Well, this adds to the proof that no player and no team is immune from injury and DL time; and since the Brewers are hardly out of the woods in that category, I will say no more on the topic.
  13. This park is freakish. Downright freakish.
  14. WEAC messed up? With my dues? Consarn it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif (I'm not a teacher, but the state couldn't decide where to put the state agency librarians.) I admit to having a soft spot in my heart for Charlie Murphy cooking Johnsonville brats! Johnsonville brats! Johnsonville brats!....
  15. I am guessing Bruner (I checked, one N) Realty is one desperate outfit, by the sheer number of ads they run on both Madison cable and radio. And yeah, prescription drug commercials of any type ("Ask your doctor about...") are among those I really try to tune out. The fearful sounding side effects are bad enough. The ones that get my goat the most are the side effects that appear to contradict what you are taking it for - like a drug that's supposed to treat social anxiety but can lead to the likes of diarrhea or sexual dysfunction. Yep, that's just what I'd want to worry about, if I were seeking treatment for social anxiety.
  16. I don't know about *really* bothered, but I don't like it. Yes. Every other team hates to win. Clearly, the Brewers stand alone in their love of winning. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  17. If you look quickly at the Oswalt picture wOOgiE22 used, Roy's right earlobe appears to be deformed. Come on, Brewers. There is really no reason you can't be competitive in this game (and wearing the road uniforms isn't reason enough).
  18. The people interviewed on the local news last night did not, as the area wasn't in a floodplain (until yesterday). The homes lost are in some cases the second home and some cases the primary home for the owners. As I understand it, the resorts are OK in the sense of being intact, but their owners are naturally worried about how much business they'll lose. Some customers have already cancelled reservation since the location is not currently "waterfront." One would think the Dells region as a whole stands to lose a noticeable amount of business. The Tommy Bartlett folks can't do their ski show (though there are other Tommy Bartlett attractions) and the Ducks at best have to alter their route. Both attractions are already planning workarounds (link). But with this house disintegrating footage making national news, you wonder how many people are going to just say, hmm, we'll go somewhere else this year.
  19. Marky Ramone World Believes About Us http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3092/2561135388_76276da315_m.jpg
  20. I'm inclined to agree. For what it's worth, though, I'll point out that the terrace level guest relations employees we know mentioned to us after last year's Twins series that they had more problems with fans during that series than they have during Cubs series. I was surprised to hear that, since in my mind Cubs fans have long held the "gold standard" for bad behavior in Miller Park.
  21. I'll speak up for the snow, strictly because you can usually avoid the worst of a snowstorm merely by staying indoors. If your basement floods in a big rain, then it's in your house and you have a mess to deal with. Plus snowstorms aren't generally accompanied by lightning (I acknowledge the exception of thundersnow) or tornadoes. This is not to say I would have rooted for the snow equivalent of 7-10 inches of rain over the course of a day and a half.
  22. Link to press release I'm not going to lie, I'm sorely tempted. (It would take some doing for us to get to the August 23 game, though.)
  23. Well, I'll take scant comfort in the Googling of our phone number leading to a picture of the house 4-5 houses away (and conveniently the most rundown house on our block, so maybe would be thieves will just overlook us).
  24. Nice, bball. Kevin's blood is on your hands.
  25. Without knowing where in Madison/Fitchburg you are, cheezscott, I'll point you toward Channel 3's online coverage, which is ample. The Dane County Airport had like 2.23 inches of rain on Saturday and 4+ on Sunday - to give you an idea of how much water there is to contend with. At least some of the streets that routinely flood in heavy rain flooded (like University Avenue toward Hilldale, for example). On the near west side, we've had a little water in the basement, but not out of control. I assume we aren't alone in that regard. Generally, it sounds like it was worse yet to the north (Sauk/Columbia counties). In Dane County, Stoughton had some building damage, near the same neighborhood that was hit by that tornado in 2005.
