  1. We could partner with Jostens for class rings!
  2. I think navy makes the most sense. Gold would be more visible, but it would look just like the Livestrong bands.
  3. http://www.httg.com/Catalog/SPPa-z_400/LABEL-RESET.jpg C'mon, Brewers. Fresh start tonight.
  4. If the Brewers do reach the 2007 World Series, they are highly unlikely to face Texas, in which case Cordero should be fine.
  5. RyDogg, I think of that now every time I hear Rollie's name.
  6. I'll second SoCal, if for no other reason on behalf of the forum's female participants.
  7. What do you think Robinson Tejeda is saying to his glove in that picture?
  8. I am moderately surprised that Dane County appears to have dodged the severe weather bullet today. The closest a warning got was northern Green County.
  9. They've been moving northeast.
  10. Uh, yeah, Pitch, we'll see what we can do. I keep getting emails now about individual UW-Madison libraries that have decided to close early because of the impending severe weather. I'm not expecting ours to, though. (Frankly, if this is going to be dreadful, I might prefer to wait it out here.)
  11. I believe that was June 25, 2005.
  12. Ah, Opey, you beat me to it. I just got a copy of the same email. I can't tell, and I guess only time will tell, what's behind this advanced warning: 1. Technology is improved enough so the weather service can tell it's going to be bad farther in advance than before; 2. Institutions all over are *that* freaked out about liability; 3. It really IS going to be that bad. I suppose it's a bit of each, and we won't know the proportion until the weather happens. It's just that I've been personally phobic about storms since 1976 (when I was 10), so I keep a close eye on weather coverage - and never have I seen an advance response like this.
  13. Good point, Sgt. (though it seems to my lay-person mind that a dismissal at, say, noon might have been a reasonable compromise). It's sad how much everyone has to consider potential liability now.
  14. Yeah, Sgt, as you know I'm feeling your pain. Stevens Point cancelled school for the whole day? I'm choosing this post to drop my one-time bf.net "are you freakin' kidding me?" response. I could see an early dismissal, but I'm very surprised that they wouldn't even begin the school day. I wonder if this will start a trend. And, like some of you, I'm getting rather more nervous about what the afternoon's going to bring. I might be spending extra time in this large sturdy building tonight!
  15. due to Bob Barker's skinny microphone No kidding. That long skinny mike is a Barker staple. I remember that from when I was a kid. I watched the prime time tribute episodes last month and got to thinking, boy, there's a lot about the TPIR set that just hasn't changed since the 1970s. Like the price displays on Contestants Row. I remember when those big calculator-style numbers represented cutting edge technology! It's a bit of a comfort, really.
  16. Oh, it's still the Waun-a-house, at least until the Middleton house is sold on the 28th. Three more weeks of having to distinguish between one and the other. I think I saw a banner outside a bank earlier this year that read "Waun-a-Loan?" That wasn't the name of the bank, however.
  17. Ahh, Waunakee, now home to my mother and soon home to my sister and her family (they finally sold their house, splitter. Same one I was telling you about in February). I'm mildly disappointed that the Waunakee Public Library calls itself by such a standard name, when Wauna-Read or Wauna-Book could have been used. If I lived there and wanted to start a book club, I'd call it Wauna-Read.
  18. This did not start as a thread about smoking, either. Please stay on topic or refrain from posting in this thread.
  19. This thread was intended to inform readers about a plane crash. Please do not continue the "who deserves a transplant" tangent. Thanks.
  20. Recalling a happier moment from Monday's game, has anyone seen an online clip of that popup dropping amid the litter of cubs? I'd like to show it to people who did not have TV access last night. (I think zachlaka was going to post a copy?)
  21. Bill Hall is the featured player for June on my Brewers wall calendar. Thus, in a small way, this would be an appropriate month for him to turn the switch back to "on."
  22. How come it says our stats against Dontrelle still?? Because wOOgiE is human. I bet he'll see this and insert the right stats soon. Meanwhile, I'll edit the end of his post so it no longer reads "Beat the Marlins!"
  23. When I used the outlet instead of batteries, I got less static and actually heard the NWS report. I wonder if that had more to do with location or electricity instead of the pre-packed AAs. Location can make a difference - both the location of the radio in your house and where your house is in relation to the NWS station. The pre-packed batteries are almost certainly cheapos and might be old themselves. Our model radio is not like yours, but we keep it plugged in with a 9V battery backup. That combination has worked for us. I'd expect most parts of Madison to have decent reception. For what it's worth, the radio we keep here at my workplace is tuned to channel 7, which comes in fine. This is in a large old stone building where AM/FM radio reception is often a challenge. I think we use the same channel at home (near west side) and it's fine there too.
  24. I'm hoping this series remains a figurative battle.
  25. Hey, That was fun today. Big crowd, big promotion, big pitching matchup...and it didn't disappoint. In the last week, the Brewers have gone from 3-3 to 6-3 in hawing-attended games. And parkside21, good to meet you. (Were you relieved when I said 'yes, I am hawing'? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif )
