  1. I've been guessing all along that having Bob sing GBA saves the Brewers from having to either pay a non-employee live performer or playing the same recording every week. Wouldn't they have had to pay royalties for that Martina McBride video?
  2. Welp, there's a fair amount of idea recycling in this year's SGA lineup, but given the 2015 the Brewers had and the uncertainty of how many 2015 players will be back in 2016, I'm not completely surprised by the recycling. My observations and a few confessions: 1. I'm fine with no gnomes. 2. That Uecker alarm clock...I might have to talk up July 10 among the SO's family to see if they want to commit to that date for our group game next year. I can put up with STL with enough distractions. 3. The Brewers must be mighty confident that Lucroy won't be moved. 4. There's still ample time to announce other special events, like a Star Wars night. 5. September 2016 is going to be a baseball wasteland in Milwaukee. Only one home Sunday and only nine home games overall.
  3. THANK YOU for making the Adam West connection that enters my mind EVERY TIME I heard Bob Koslowski of the Brewers' guest relations department sing God Bless America. We have a Sunday ticket package, so we've heard it a lot. During the rest of each game, you can find Bob in the field level guest relations booth. Anyway, I will be interested to see if they continue GBA without the $$. I'd guess the "Veterans in Piping" sponsorship can continue since it's not funded by the feds.
  4. The Brewers will start to reveal the 2016 all-fan giveaways today (November 2), so if you're still going to guess, get going. Edit: All-Fan giveaway #1, April 10 vs. Houston, is a(nother) Vintage Brewer bobblehead. This one will wear an 80s uniform. AFG #2, May 1 vs. Miami, is a(nother) Ryan Braun bobblehead. This one will commemorate his status as the franchise home run leader. Kid Giveaway #1, May 15 vs. San Diego, is a Jonathan Lucroy replica jersey. Kid Giveaway #2, May 29 vs. Cincinnati, is a Paint-Your-Own Bernie Brewer bobblehead. AFG #3, June 12 vs. the Mets, is a(nother) BobbleHank, this one a Barking Hank Bobblehead. AFG #4, June 26 vs. Washington, is a Greg Vaughn bobblehead. AFG #5, July 10 vs. St. Louis, is a Bob Uecker Talking Alarm Clock. AFG #6, July 31 vs. Pittsburgh, is a Jimmy Nelson bobblehead. AFT #7, August 14 vs. Cincinnati, is a(nother) Craig Counsell bobblehead, with half of the bobbles depicting Craig as a player and the other half as a manager. Kid Giveaway #3, August 28 vs. Pittsburgh, is a Jonathan Lucroy Chest Protector Backpack. Free Shirt Fridays will also be back in 2016, with those giveaways on the following Friday nights: June 10 and 24 July 8, 22 and 29 August 12 and 26 Like in 2015, the designs for the shirts will be chosen by fan vote.
  5. The full program is available on the Brewers' website, should you want to see it for yourself: Link! The hawing household was at the 2003 event that casey remembers, and would have been all in this year had it been possible. The program was supposed to be streamed live, but the audio cut out early on. The Brewers did follow up with everyone who tweeted about it Thursday night with a link to the recording Friday morning, which I thought was pretty customer focused.
  6. If having a Murphy in the dugout helps the Brewers beat the Cubs, I'm 100% on board.
  7. More of a film treasure, but her movies are shown on TV: Maureen O'Hara dies at 95 This probably isn't how most of her fans remember her, but I associate her with the 1961 The Parent Trap.
  8. Not to put him on the spot, but I believe the poster gregmag lives in that area. Send him a DM if he doesn't chime in on this thread.
  9. Nope. The hawing party was there too. I've been around worse cub fan swarms, but still, the thing I noticed/felt first when glancing at the 2016 schedule a few weeks ago was relief that next year's home finale is not against STL or CHC. My goal for the night was for the Brewers to avoid being no-hit, and at least they delivered that. Such is the low level of expectations/hopes by now.
  10. Part of me hopes you told her you were a secret agent. I enjoy scoring, and have a nifty little scorebook (http://eephusleague.com/2013/06/the-halfliner/) but I don't score every game we attend. When we sit in front of the press box (same sections cited by Patrick425 above), I want to keep ready for foul balls. I too have noticed fewer scoring plays being listed on the ribbon board (out by the closed captioning and pitch count) than in years past, or even earlier this season. Even when I'm not scoring a game, I like to have that information.
  11. That was a pretty outstanding ninth inning. If you heard reports of a middle aged woman jumping up and down in her garage in Madison yesterday...that would've been me. In case you didn't catch both the TV and radio calls: http://m.mlb.com/video/v506041883/must-c-clutch-rogers-stuns-cards-with-grand-slam/?game_pk=415976
  12. Just typing the STL names into the lineup in the lead post makes me feel icky.
  13. My right ear has been plugged up for the last two days. Same thing happened for about a week and a half this summer. I had it checked then and my clinic said "no sign of wax, no sign of infection...you can only wait it out." It feels the same this time, so unless it starts to hurt I'm not going to incur a clinic visit just to be told to wait it out again. I've chewed gum and other chewy foods, held my nose while swallowing...no luck yet. Meanwhile my hearing is maybe 2/3 of usual.
  14. For what it's worth, I thought I saw more than the usual amount of Gennett/Scooter gear on fans yesterday. *shrug*
  15. I try to be open minded, but I'm puzzled by the gnomes too. I guess they break up the bobblehead monotony? I thought the bubble-blowing image of Scooter was weirder than turning him into a gnome...especially since I doubt his full cheek during games is full of gum.
  16. Outstate (non-SE Wisconsin) fans wouldn't get much chance at the giveaways if they were held during the week. Most of us aren't as dogged as the hawing household. Casey's point about the discounts generally being better during the week is valid.
  17. None of us knows how much Matt has left in the tank, but I'm open to finding out after the offseason. While his reaction yesterday (maybe a knee jerk reaction, though maybe not if they were talking about this earlier in the week) holds some cause for concern, I'd frankly be more concerned if he weren't upset about his season in the rotation coming to an early end.
  18. I remember that too, pitchleague, and I thought of it right away when his recent 'vocal issues' arose. My guess is if there's anyone in the Brewers' organization whose medical team is probably watching him like a hawk, it may well be Ueck. I don't think he'd run himself into the ground unnecessarily, and I doubt the Brewers would let him. They know his value to the franchise. Having said that, I too was mildly surprised that he made the Washington and Cleveland trip.
  19. Haha, then just say above that certain women do X, Y and Z. I hope I didn't appear shrill because that's not how I feel about it. (Though I am horrified at the idea of putting my phone in my bra.) As for the phone, we're kind of old school that way. One of our connected phones at home is even a rotary! Though we use it mainly so we can hear the phone ringing if we're upstairs.
  20. If a season ticket holder cashes in tickets after the game date on the tickets, they're limited to terrace reserved. If you exchange before the game date, you can get seats on the level your usual seats are in (space permitting). And yeah, the exchanges are limited to mostly Monday-Thursday games and an occasional Friday or Saturday. They don't want you to be able to stock up on all-fan giveaways and the like. Having said that, when we asked to swap some seats last September, our ticket rep gave us a bit more leeway because there were so few exchange options left. After the way 2015 has gone, I'd like to think they'd be similarly cool about that if needed.
  21. At least Craig's hoodie is long sleeved. The 3/4 sleeve hoodie look (seen on Joe Maddon recently, and I'm sure others) befuddles me. If it's cool enough to warrant a hoodie, why would you only want 3/4 sleeves? That plus Joe Maddon's stubble and retro glasses gave him, in my mind, a real OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD vibe when the Cubs were last in town. The other thing about this year's hoodies (regardless of sleeve length) that gets me is the font for MILWAUKEE (or whatever city) BASEBALL. It looks like MLB had them done at the local t-shirt shop. I'm not asking for frilly, but I think there's such a thing as too plain.
  22. Hey! None of that applies to me. My iPhone 5 has a Coveroo case which I got at Miller Park, with a sweet retro engraved logo (http://cf.juggle-images.com/matte/white/280x280/milwaukee-brewers-alternate-logo-primary.jpg) on the back. It fits in the pockets of whatever clothing I wear. I cringe at the thought of keeping a phone in my bra. I'm also not catty, and even if I were, I'd find something cheaper and less fragile to throw. Just had to put that out there. To keep more on the smartphone topic, I finally went with an iPhone (the aforementioned 5) about a year and a half ago and have been really pleased with it. Our other devices at home are all Apple and I do like the general seamlessness of how the iPhone fits in. The S.O. has a Galaxy S3 and the different OS doesn't seem to faze him. We both use our phones way more for data than for speech communication. Our neighborhood in Madison doesn't have a consistent signal, so we still use a landline at home.
  23. I'm 100% delighted for Mike. Besides the hardships mentioned earlier in this thread, remember that he took lumps from the national media last year after his pitch to Giancarlo Stanton. It's bittersweet for me that this happened just after his Brewers tenure, but I daresay he has earned this big moment, even if it proves to be his peak.
  24. Keeping it random...Milwaukee Journal Sentinel subscribers are eligible for complimentary online access to the Washington Post. We get the Sunday MJS delivered, which I already considered worthwhile for coupons and the weekly tactile experience of perusing a paper (which I still enjoy), but when they threw in Washington Post access, that definitely enhanced it for me. The offer was initially for 52 weeks' access, which I figured gave me time to think about whether I'd want to pay for continued online WP access. But earlier this summer they offered to extend it another 52 weeks.
