  1. Aw, tear. But how awesome would it be if the Cubs also signed Randy Wolf? Wolfottaras could live again.
  2. Oh. Well, you know, he lied less. Declaring "anybody who says otherwise is lying" isn't as cockroachey as throwing that courier dude under the bus. Trust STL nation. It's different.
  3. It's possible to navigate quickly with a bag. For years I have been bringing a canvas bag with snacks, plastic bottle beverage, scorebook/pencil, camera, etc. I have it open and ready to show the bag checker when I'm at the front of the line. Some of the checkers recognize me and I can get through their lines relatively quickly. A few other miscellaneous observations: As long as this remains recommended rather than mandatory, I think it's a valid question whether the Brewers will follow suit (though even if they don't initially, it's probably a slippery slope to making everyone do it). I'd expect Boston and New York to implement it, and am mildly surprised that the NY teams (apparently) haven't done it in all the years since 2001. If metal detectors come to pass (which is probably a bad unintended pun of some sort), wouldn't the delays be more "equal opportunity," since both male and female fans have keys and cell phones? Another serious question, since I haven't much experience with metal detectors: how much metal does it take to trigger the detector? Is the binding in a spiral bound scorebook enough?
  4. There was a fair amount of #trader around the internets in response to Albert Pujols, too.
  5. STL signs a Biogenesis guy. I can't say I would have predicted that. Of course, since the Cardinals' machine all but genetically engineers players of all skill levels into Brewer killers, I guess I now have 5 months to develop STL style hatred for this Peralta. [sarcasm]Nice to have the heads-up.[/sarcasm] I also look forward to seeing how the fans of STL nation spell his first name.
  6. Couldn't agree more. Serious question which is not meant to turn this into a fight: Do you tend to feel unsafe at Miller Park?
  7. Link to press release The 2013 Clubhouse Sale is December 6-7. A December 5 evening preview should be available for season ticket holders. Let the dreams of black lace stripper caps, $5 former player shirseys and all kinds of has-been memorabilia begin!
  8. Or these sweet dance moves? http://brewgifs.tumblr.com/post/57885710020/sub-replacement-level-dancing Speaking strictly from a research type standpoint, it would be interesting to see if STL could fix him...and horrifying if it turns out they can. That would surely prove the devil magic theorem.
  9. And two of those three January tornadoes were in Kenosha County in 2008. It was exactly two weeks after we had given a few of the S.O.'s family members weather radios as Christmas gifts.
  10. I wish Frank Kaminsky would visit my library so I could climb up on a chair and high five him. That's why even uninspiring-on-the-surface games like UND/Wisconsin can be worth going to: You never know what you'll see. I'd be pleased if Cory Provus called some UW road games or weekend home games so I could catch his call.
  11. It seems less "moranic" after reading that STL is his hometown.
  12. these days do very well jerseywise and they are running out of nationalities (i think german is the only one of the sausages that hasn't had its day yet). we don't know if aoki will be back in 2015 so why not. Yeah, the Aoki shirsey with Japanese characters seems to sell well, with plenty worn by non-Asian fans. It is almost as if the Brewers are committing to Nori through at least June 29, though.
  13. I know I wasn't the only bf.netter at the UW/Florida game, and if you were there too, I'd like to know what you thought of the revved-up player introductions. The SO and I both thought the bursts of steam/dry ice smoke/whatever as each UW starter ran onto the court was over the top. The student section certainly brought it last night, which was nice. It helped drown out the couple who sits behind us and usually spends every game constantly complaining and picking apart every UW mistake. One of these days I might give in to the temptation to turn around and ask how much better they'd do on the court. (They look old enough to be my parents, and I'm probably now old enough to be the parents of at least some of the players.)
  14. .8" at the airport in Madison, only a bit of which clung to grassy/muddy spots. That 16-degree wind chill on the way home was the suck, though. It didn't help that my iPod called up "Summer in the City." Mock me through shuffle, will you?!
  15. I'll be interested to see if the 'fan vote' bobble will be a choice of former players, current youngsters (e.g. Scooter) or non-players such as Bud or Mark. The t-shirts aren't super imaginative, but 2013 did offer a glimpse into the value of promoting the team instead of promoting all individual players.
  16. At least you have a chance of baseball fun on your birthday, unlike us winter-born types. Having said that, what would be characteristic of a "Vintage Brewer" bobble? Butcher in the field but some pop in his bat?
  17. T-shirt designs: June 13 http://mlblogsbrewers.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mb-14-all-fan-reveal-tshirt-1.jpg?w=300&h=300 June 27 http://mlblogsbrewers.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mb-14-all-fan-reveal-tshirt-2.jpg?w=300&h=300 July 11 http://mlblogsbrewers.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mb-14-all-fan-reveal-tshirt-3.jpg?w=300&h=300 July 25 http://mlblogsbrewers.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mb-14-all-fan-reveal-tshirt-4.jpg?w=300&h=300 August 8 http://mlblogsbrewers.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mb-14-all-fan-reveal-tshirt-5.jpg?w=300&h=300 August 22 http://mlblogsbrewers.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mb-14-all-fan-reveal-tshirt-6.jpg?w=300&h=300
  18. Here's hoping we don't have to wait until June 13 (or later) to celebrate that. And for the record, I don't need Yuni to specifically retire; just to not be a Brewer anymore.
  19. Hmm. It's the same time of year as last year's Polish Heritage Day and 2012's Italian Heritage Day. I'd been wondering whether/how they would continue the heritage days, since they've worked through some of the most obvious candidates for Wisconsin; but since Nori's still around, 2014 is an opportunity to note Japanese heritage/culture. Of course, there is no requirement to attend games with giveaways that you don't like, or even to accept the giveaway if you do attend. We have an annual game where we bring the S.O.'s family; most of them want a bobble, so we aim for a bobble day; and those who don't want a bobble have politely turned down the usher at the entrance.
  20. [sarcasm]Well, it's true that without Gary Sheffield, we might never have known Ricky Bones.[/sarcasm]
  21. Like it or not, replica bats would probably be regarded as potential weapons nowadays. Remember how well the opening day 1997 ball giveaway went: Link I hadn't considered Bud but since 2014 is apparently his last full year as commish (this time for real?), it makes sense.
  22. Well, an umbrella giveaway at a park who uses the near-elimination of rainouts as a major selling point probably won't pass marketing muster. Having said that, I do miss seeing thousands of fans twirling their new umbrellas at once. That grill set was a novel departure from the norm. It wouldn't make this list because it wasn't for all fans. Since an all-fan giveaway has to be suitable for all ages, I suppose that limits the options somewhat.
  23. I made a thread for this in the Trading Post forum. As the giveaways are revealed, I'll update it. I mentioned this in the other thread, but I believe the season ticket renewal packet mentioned some all-fan t-shirt giveaways as well as bobbleheads. Once I get a chance to recheck, I'll share what I know. (Finally did this Sunday, November 3.)
  24. Though it would be sort of a repeat, I'd be surprised and even mildly disappointed if there is no bobble acknowledgment of Gomez's Gold Glove - especially since it's been so long since the Brewers had a GG winner.
  25. Link to John and Cait blog The 2014 Brewers season includes 14 all-fan giveaway dates, which will be revealed on brewers.com during the week of November 4-8. Our season ticket renewal stuff is at home, but my memory is that there's a mix of bobbles and T-shirts, and not all the giveaway dates are Sundays. If I get the chance before the information is revealed, I'll post the dates here. The 2014 bobblehead speculation thread is still available for your speculation needs. Dates (with opponent) from the season seat holder renewal packet: All-fan bobblehead giveaways: Sunday, April 27 (Cubs) - Carlos Gomez, to commemorate his Gold Glove award Sunday, May 11 (Yankees) - Kyle Lohse Sunday, June 15 (Reds) - Vintage Brewer (old-school kewpie doll look) Sunday, June 29 (Rockies) - Norichika Aoki, wearing a Japanese uniform Sunday, July 27 (Mets) - Fan Vote (TBD by a fan vote later this off-season) Sunday, August 10 (Dodgers) - Chorizo Sunday, August 24 (Pirates) - Jean Segura (presumably in a Brewers rather than an all-star jersey) Sunday, September 14 (Reds) - Robin Yount in a 1974 uniform All-fan T-shirt giveaways: Friday, June 13 (Reds) - Royal blue with gold BREWERS barrel Friday, June 27 (Rockies) - White with navy "modern" M Friday, July 11 (Cardinals) - Yellow with blue BREW CREW and ball/glove logo Friday, July 25 (Mets) - Navy with gold BREWERS and white baseball stitches Friday, August 8 (Dodgers) - Gray with retro-colored Barrelman head design Friday, August 22 (Pirates) - Navy, "BREWERS BASEBALL," weird font (hawing's opinion) Images of the t-shirts are in reply #21. For those curious, the June 13, June 27, and July 25 games fall in the Saturday Plus 20-pack; the July 11 and August 8 games in Sunday Plus; and August 22 in Opening Day Plus.
