  1. I didn't ask about the shipping fee on Wednesday. It's worth asking your rep about. Indeed, last year I used one of our would-be World Series ticket sheets for a nephew's Christmas gift. The strips would also have some collector value.
  2. Something I wish I'd had time to post earlier on Thursday: Before Wednesday's game we saw our ticket rep at ticket window 5 and chatted for like ten minutes (no one else was in line, which is probably not weird for the last game of the year). He said that season seat holders who would like a quick refund can request one from their rep through Friday 10/5. Otherwise refunding will have to wait until later this month (I'm pretty sure he said the 19th), when invoices for 2013 go out. For those not refunding right away, the 2012 postseason deposit can be applied to 2013 tickets if you wish. In case that helps any season ticket customers who have time to contact their rep on Friday 10/5...there you go. Incidentally, the actual tickets are not going to be mailed.
  3. You think Parra and Loe won't see the bump again? Just the thought of Livan being considered as an option gives me a sadface. It's been a while since I felt like really turning on a player (Jorge Julio, I'm thinking), but this is where I'm at with Livan.
  4. It's a shame he never got to throw a postseason pitch.
  5. Tomorrow is going to be SNAFU Thursday, and there's nothing I can do about it except show up and roll with the punches. (Among other things, I suppose 1992casey and I should discuss whether SNAFU violates the cuss filter.)
  6. That is super cool, chuckiehacks. My SO caught a foul ball that was originally pitched by Manny in 2008 and I have been hoping to get it signed. I tweeted him about it but his lack of reply makes me think that he doesn't do that kind of favor for grownups. That's completely his right, but I wish he had just said so.
  7. Augh, so it's not only Johnny Wholestaff night, but maybe C- or D-list Wholestaff. I know that games are not played on paper and so all's not lost, but waah.
  8. Seems a water softener fail after six months shouldn't be your cost to bear (unless you installed it yourself). Two years ago this week, we lost our water heater abruptly, in slightly amusing fashion. A local company had been running a special for replacing your water heater with a tankless one, which we'd been considering anyway. This was during September, when I'm always up-to-here with new school year work, so I asked the SO to make the call. He put it off, and put it off, and put it off. On the last day of the promotion, he sent an email to the company, and then still wasn't sure. Then he went to take a shower after a jog and found no hot water. He felt motivated after that. Fortunately, we only went without for a few days. Parts of the old water heater actually disintegrated (leaving a trail of rust in our driveway) as the installers took it out to their truck for disposal.
  9. There is going to be a winter storm named Q? I don't know whether to be fascinated or appalled. I remembered that one of the Green Bay stations named its winter storms but had forgotten it was 'LUK. Thanks for the reminder.
  10. That would be awesome. Ooh, I'd be willing to try that. I've missed Ben's wry humor. Thanks for playing, Ben, and best wishes in your retirement.
  11. There was one Sunday game this season with a major Nashville vibe, and this lineup reminds me of it. I figured this would happen eventually, and I don't want to begrudge the bench players their opportunities, but it's kind of a bummer. And the probable pitcher for Wednesday (our next/last game of 2012) is now TBA? If it's Livan, I might take a walk around the concourse until he's out of the game. I'd think tonight has plenty of potential for Johnny Wholestaff status as it is.
  12. A police officer I know told me that for his 2010 visit, he asked for an open-air space. My guess is his preference hasn't changed. Library Mall is clearly not an option this time because of the latest rounds of utility and other construction projects. The 2010 visit also drew more people than the Kohl Center can fit. Why they couldn't use Camp Randall is another valid question. You won't run out of seats there, it's open air but has obvious physical boundaries, and the system for security around Breese Terrace is well established and regularly implemented. The current status for my building is that we'll be open all day Thursday, with only one entrance available (besides an emergency exit). We've been asked to keep students out of their carrels on the south side of the building, and I don't know yet if we must keep people out of our whole south stacks (i.e. half our collection). We'll have no mail or delivery service. I don't expect anyone there for library services; maybe plenty to listen to the address from a warmer and drier place. "Ridiculous" is an overused term nowadays, but it might pertain in this case. However, the University says the instructions they're getting change literally by the hour - so it could all be different!
  13. A high-profile visitor is coming to UW-Madison Thursday (whom you can talk about at the BF political scene) and will be within a city block of my workplace. But I still have no information on how or whether my library will be open. I'm not sure the planners remember that the number of hours between now and then is finite and I have many parties to notify if we do close or close early. I do not want to be sending these emails from the ballpark Wednesday night.
  14. Argh, we left for Milwaukee at 3:00 and I clearly had no idea the IGT wasn't up. My apologies. There weren't 31000 in the house, but those who turned out were enthusiastic and into the game. That's why I enjoy weeknight games. 82 wins. The 2012 Brewers have given us more than our share of fits, but I appreciate their late effort.
  15. Sweet line! Before Saturday's game, I saw a fan with a vuvuzela in one of the parking lots, but he was either nowhere near us in the park or wasn't allowed to bring the thing in. Thankfully.
  16. I can say with the confidence of an in-person witness that on fan appreciation night, the most appreciated move of the 9th was RRR heading out to get Livan the hell out of the game. Woah. The hawing party was denied a fan appreciation fabulous prize for the zillionth time, but it was nice to see someone in terrace reserved get the car - rather than a suite holder or the like. Nothing against suite holders (in case any are reading this), but you might have a better chance of affording a new car. 81 wins. That was my hope, only occasionally realized, for the majority of seasons since 1983. Given the lows of this season, I'd say a non-losing season counts for something. Still, I'd prefer at least 82 wins.
  17. I'd grown so accustomed to listing the Brewers' lineups first the last ten days, that I almost listed them as the road team just now.
  18. Based on my memory of last year's timeline, we got the postseason invoice in mid-August and payment was due by early September. The Brewers' postseason had to end before they'd know how much $ was to be refunded, and the last game was October 16. So any customers who paid immediately upon receiving the invoice (mid to late August) would have had their tiebreaker/LDS/LCS money tied up with the Brewers for two months anyway. The initial CC charge was for the first rounds; the World Series charge came later, and I'd have to reread last year's materials to remember exactly when. I'm sure a silver lining for the Brewers is that postseason deposits tend to result in an improved renewal rate for the following season. I wonder if a completely successful postseason (i.e. winning it all) would make it harder for some fans to afford tickets for the next year. The sum of our would-be World Series bill could cover a few seasons' worth of our ordinary 20-packs. I'm not saying I would hate the opportunity to find out, but if we weren't refunded that $, paying for the next year would definitely have us digging deeper.
  19. I'm just about always happy to be at the ballpark, but as I've said elsewhere this week, I hope enough fans care tonight to give the Brewers a good reception. They are the last ones who need to be reminded of how things could have been better. Plus, the first 10,000 fans get a rally 'stache that appears to be fuzzy. Yovani's next K will be his 200th of the season. And the weather looks to be stellar. What's not to love about this?
  20. I'm pretty much always happy on days when I'm scheduled to go to Miller Park. I'll still stand and cheer for the home team tonight.
  21. The Ax-Luc combination certainly seemed effective last year, but I'd want to know* how many of John's blown saves took place during Jonathan's DL stint. *I don't really want to be reminded of the dates. I beheld my share of them in person, if not more than my share.
  22. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_K60Z1eMb6jQ/SShPjxcBqhI/AAAAAAAAAWM/vdCAwag0-60/s400/simpsons+flying+pig.JPG It's still possible! It's still possible! I've genuinely appreciated the optimism in this thread and I do not mean to crap on it. I just really like that Simpsons episode. Whenever the season ends, the Brewers have made the latter months of the 2012 season more interesting than just about any of us had reason to expect. Now, if you have tickets for Saturday and are ready to tear them up in frustration, don't do that. Transfer them to me so we have a better chance of winning a fabulous prize. Every year the SO says it's his year to be a winner!
  23. But there has been beer (in copious amounts) in Milwaukee for ages and ages and the Miller Park faithful have (thus far, knock wood and touch iron) resisted the temptation to randomly woo.
  24. This calls for a BF.net classic image: http://vig-fp.prenhall.com/bigcovers/0273704575.jpg
  25. Oh, for sure. Shaun doesn't seem like a Twitter kind of guy, but I'd love to be able to send him my thanks. Anyone else going Friday and planning on joining my standing ovation as the Brewers take the field?
