  1. The hawing household defines "wacky slugfest" as a game with at least 25 total hits, so today's game qualified. I'm not sure what was with those slacker four starters who didn't go deep today. Corey will probably beg off since he hit the dinger last night. I haven't been following the Pirates closely outside their games with Milwaukee, but this weekend they didn't really look like they were playing for a postseason. I didn't sense urgency on their part during either Friday's game or today's. I suppose they might have a mental hurdle to overcome still with the Brewers (and maybe especially Miller Park), but I hope they are not counting themselves out already.
  2. I've had issues with sleeping since my crib days (so my mother assures me), and one thing that helps me is blackout shades on the bedroom windows. If an extra curtain rod doesn't work because you're renting, there are blackout panels that clip onto regular curtains. Something that generates white noise sometimes helps me too. Though, yeah, those neighbors would drive me crazy too, and I wouldn't have given them until 1:30 to call authorities.
  3. I read somewhere that FSWisconsin will rebroadcast the ceremony periodically during September. Also: I just googled Doc Severinsen. Dude is 85! Man oh man. /standing in awe
  4. I suppose all it takes is one vehicle to slow down and the chain reaction gets going.
  5. Forgive my ignorance, but how does that happen?
  6. If you do, I hope it's the ultra-rare (as in, never sold in stores) DAVIS 49 shirsey. That no. 25 year was nothing but bad mojo.
  7. I entered Tapatalk just now, logged in to Brewerfan without incident, navigated to the what's hot thread Casey referred to, was asked to log in again, and a couple of minutes later the phone is still "Processing" that request. This is consistent with what happens when I try to access globally announced IGTs.
  8. So the UW-Madison school year is about to start, which means I have to rebuild my student staff at the library. I placed a job center ad and among the responses I got was a letter including this sentence: "If I am hired, there will be no regrets." Youthful bravado or slightly threatening? I guess the author managed to stand out, but is it better in the job market to stand out for oddness? And if the author happens to be one of you, I am very, very sorry for bringing it up here.
  9. That makes sense. Otherwise every Brewers media source would have repeated the team name ad infinitum.
  10. I've been prompted to log in a second time every time I've tried looking at an IGT via Tapatalk, and the connection never quite gets made after I (re) enter my username and password. The connection woes could be my less than super smartphone, but not the extra login prompt.
  11. I keep hearing this factoid, but I have not seen/heard which 1900 team had the double-digit K streak.
  12. Anyone beginning to wonder if it's not Kameron's night? What I meant to say was, anyone in the Brewers' dugout beginning to wonder if it's not Kameron's night?
  13. I'm way too busy at work this week to be able to help you out, but I found out that my 67 year old aunt, who for some reason is now a Cubs fan*, is going Thursday and very excited about it. Since she'll apparently be rooting for the dark side, I don't suggest you give her a shoutout. *I didn't even know she followed baseball, much less that team. Better than STL, I guess. She has long been regarded as kind of the crazy aunt (even before her baseball preference was known).
  14. And yeah, eventually I remembered to put it in global announcement mode. This is not my weekend. So when Pirates fans boo Ryan this weekend, is it ordinary garden-variety "juicer" hatred or are they still hanging on to his audacity to be happy about that 2008 walkoff?
  15. We're not going to let today's first-pitch time come and go without an IGT. Your Milwaukee Brewers (58-67) RF Norichika Aoki 2B Rickie Weeks LF Ryan Braun 3B Aramis Ramirez 1B Corey Hart C Jonathan Lucroy CF Carlos Gomez SS Jean Segura RHP Mark Rogers The host Pittsburgh Pirates (68-58): LF Travis Snider 2B Neil Walker CF Andrew McCutchen RF Garrett Jones 1B Jeff Clement 3B Pedro Alvarez C Rod Barajas SS Josh Harrison LHP Erik Bedard
  16. I had a similar thought as that game ended. Sorry about the lateness of the IGT; I was literally napping through the first hour of the game. I'd like to think we could make the case that without a (timely) IGT, does the loss really happen? but then we'd have to invalidate Jeff Bianchi's first MLB hit.
  17. And that four-spot inning wouldn't have happened if TEHFIERS hadn't finally battled his way to his first MLB hit.
  18. Considering how often fans at the park are hoisting signs saying "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY" (second only to "MY FIRST BREWERS GAME"), that's probably accurate.
  19. There you go. TLB paraphrased Kalle better than I did.
  20. I for one would casually follow Wolfottaras West Coast.
  21. More importantly, how'd the Italian do in the Sausage race? The Italian only won once, I believe. (I wasn't at all seven games.) Interestingly, Kalle informed us that Italian sausages are not a traditional Italian food. Also: instead of "knocking on wood" as superstitious Americans do, Italians instead "touch iron." It's true!
  22. That makes the Brewers UNDEFEATED in the post-Wolf era, and gives kalle8 a 5-2 visit to Milwaukee. Nice work from our one man Italian Brew Crew!
  23. Seems like a beautiful day for a ballgame, unless the weather is somehow drastically different in Milwaukee than in Madison.
  24. Angle that might explain the timing: Segura was limping after his last at-bat Tuesday night, and a tweet from Tom Haudricourt confirms that he is still limping today. Ransom is starting at SS for Wednesday's game, so Jean must be unavailable today - hence the need for a backup, and the inability to wait for an off-day/day after Randy's birthday to cut him.
  25. I think I would have waited for the off-day to make the call, but bidness is bidness, I guess. Thanks for playing, Randy. The Brewers wouldn't have had three NLCS games at home last year without you, and I enjoyed your attempts at near-eephus pitching.
