  1. I just hate it when this happens! Every time I see that phrase in this thread I wonder why someone is talking about me. I tend to lean toward hopefulness, so I'm happy enough just to see play resume tonight, and to see Zack on the mound again. History!
  2. I'm late to the party, but I'd most like to focus on the fact that Tim Dillard can't hurt the Brewers on the field anymore. I've no doubt he's a good guy, but it's one less bullpen white flag for Ron to wave late in games. Thanks for playing, Tim.
  3. I'd watch that if I weren't already going to be at Miller Park watching a live game.
  4. I'm told this one counts. If pretendastronaut has graphics for this semi-momentous occasion, I'm sure he will displace my humble lead post. Otherwise, feel free to cheer, boo, or raise a hullabaloo.
  5. I would certainly call it a hangdog expression.
  6. We attended the Sunday activities and the Tuesday "game" (I gave up my home run derby ticket so the SO could bring his teenage nephew). It was just about the first time I'd seen so many people wearing Brewers gear in one place (having not been at the 1982 postseason). I was struck by how many Milwaukee fans turned out and represented. At the time, I figured it might also be the highest-profile sporting event I'd ever attend. So I found much about the events to interest me without dwelling too much on the bizarre non-ending. When I think of how much more commonplace Brewers gear is nowadays, it gladdens my heart and embiggens my spirit. The franchise has come a good distance since 2002.
  7. No kidding! Except they set the bad precedent to begin with. Nice second round for the Prince. To me, dude doesn't look right with dreads.
  8. Is Andrew McCutchen a power guy at all? I usually think of him as "the speedy" Andrew McCutchen (as I do with Michael Bourn, and used to with Nyjer Morgan).
  9. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/2002/allstar/news/2002/07/09/allstar_game_ap/lg_selig_ap.jpg It's been a decade now? Woah.
  10. OK, I get it now. At first it sounded like maybe AT&T had a policy of charging more for female accountholders, which would have been crazy, probably illegal, but wouldn't necessarily surprise me. A prior beef I had with a phone company (I think it was when AT&T was Ameritech in Wisconsin) was when they abridged phone book entries for two-surname households without advance notice. Previously the SO and I had each had an entry in our name, with the other's included: i.e. Hawing and Significant Other's Name; Significant Other and Hawing. I was moderately angry to find my name listed by itself (which suggests to the world that I live alone and might be easier pickings for troublemakers). It wasn't because we are unmarried; the same thing happened to my married coworker whose wife kept her surname. It wasn't a new policy of one person per entry, because married couples with the same surname were listed jointly as before. We resolved it by removing my entry, so those of you who still consult "phone books" can't find me there anymore. Of course, in some communities you have to specifically request printed white pages now.
  11. As an aside, how would changing the name on your AT&T account save money? Weird AT&T logic, or something else?
  12. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_n06stlhIcXg/TUHrsHb2qpI/AAAAAAAAANA/1bgl_s_7Zs0/s220/take3.gif Take two for Zack. Here's hoping he lasts longer today.
  13. Thanks for reminding me that Ann Carroll exists. No one on earth has reminded me more of my mid 1970s Malibu Barbie doll.
  14. No! Jamie Moyer can't quit. He's the only guy on a major sports team actually older than me!!! Seconded. Who will I mock as "Grampa" if all the players are younger than I am?
  15. There were some triple digit temperature days in 1995, too. Here's a list of top-ten high temperature days for Madison and Milwaukee. It's not exactly what you asked for, but somewhere on the NWS Milwaukee-Sullivan site ought to have it. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=mkx&storyid=85075&source=0
  16. If Martin is confident that he'll be retained on the 25-man roster, yes, I'd agree with you. I can't pretend to know what the front office is thinking lately.
  17. Woah, doctor. Nice that they pulled it out, I guess, but gawd almighty, I hope Wednesday's game is shorter. We're bringing some of my family, including a 7-year-old niece who's not that much into baseball. Just wow.
  18. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2012/07/andy-griffith-dies-at-age-86/1#.T_MTFJGs2So Aww. Let the TV marathons commence. Also, if someone has better luck than I finding a clip of Grampa Simpson exclaiming "Maaaaaaaatlooooooooooock!", go for it.
  19. Mrs. Clay Tweel.
  20. Check out this video of the Iowa-to-DC derecho: I imagine most everyone's thinking this already, but it's just nutty how the same areas keep getting slammed with storms and rain while other areas get nothing - in Wisconsin alone.
  21. I'm not surprised to hear that. One thing we wondered after Sunday's incident was where the nearest cart was to the bullpen, and how quickly it could practically get there. At least at MP Sunday, there was no lack of first responders on foot.
  22. Your mom.
  23. Sunday was our annual "take the SO's family to the park" game, so I for one was a little grateful that the kids with us were distracted enough by the dance music to have no idea what was going on. I wasn't watching the clock, but it seemed like we noticed the paramedics in the bullpen a good while before play was stopped. I don't know if the end of the first just happened to be when the mobile ambulance was ready to enter the field, or if they wanted to wait for a more natural stoppage in play to bring it out. Waiting in a situation like this just doesn't make sense, so I'm leaning toward the former. This does add to my respect for public safety staff at large venues such as MP. Just imagine the sheer number of things that can go wrong in a tens-of-thousands crowd. You can train for a lot, but you can't predict everything.
