  1. Funny you should mention that. While Giannis was sitting, Harden was still in the game when they were up 50 so he could get to 60 points. Still chucking 3s until the second they took him out. I have no doubt Harden wants to win. I absolutely believe that one of his goals is winning a championship. But there are things that he does that give the perception that he is a me first player. That won't go away when he is staying in a game that his team is winning by 50 points, just so he can reach a milestone Giannis came out of a game that his team was winning by a blowout when he was just short of a double-double. Dude is not about personal achievements, winning a championship is first and foremost in his mind, and minute management is one of the things that will help them achieve that goal. Part of me believes that's what gave him the edge in the MVP voting last year.
  2. So if OSU does what everyone expects and knocks the Badgers into next week like 42 -13 or something like that, the rose bowl takes psu. Hypothetically what if the Badgers lose to OSU but its a close one, like 27- 24 or so? Is PSU still the choice?
  3. They arent the 2010 team. All I'm saying is the 2010 Packers were 8-6, got hot and won it all. Nobody expected that. And you said yourself, nobody should write them off. As I said, I dont expect them to get out of the Nfc, but calling it before it happens is weak sauce.
  4. The Packers are who they are. I think its silly to write a team off definitively. They have flaws. The saints and 9ers and seahwaks are all probably better teams. The Saints got smoked by the Falcons a few weeks ago. I dont believe the Packers are a super bowl team. I didnt think they were in 2010. I just think writing a team off is hasty.
  5. Giants fans right now: "Game over"
  6. I'm not positive that's automatic with Clemson, but you're probably right. Their SOS is truly terrible this year, but they're Clemson. If Utah, OK, Clemson, and LSU all win isn't OSU out if they lose? At least 3 of those 4 are favorites. OSU has been so devastatingly dominant, that unless Wisco absolutely blows them out of the water, then a 1 loss OSU should rightly still get in over those other 1 loss teams. OSU has a +38 ppg differential, has 3 wins over teams currently ranked in the top 15, and put a 42-0 beat down on Cincinnati, who is also in the top 25. That's a tough resume to top. Unless the Badgers just outright slaughter them, like say...... 56-0, I can't see the Buckeyes falling out of the top 4.
  7. I sort of agree with this. I've said before that College football isn't an even playing field, and it never will be, and I'm ok with that. We're likely to see Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio St in the playoffs more years than not. All that being said, an 8 team playoff would at least give us a chance to see a few other teams in there, which would be nice. As others have pointed out, the idea that the conference title games are de facto playoff games.... that's just false. Ohio State and Clemson can both lose this week and they're both still in, so making it an 8 team playoff makes the conference title games a lot more meaningful.
  8. That could be why Harden didnt get mvp.
  9. Bucks scored 137 points and only one guy had more than 15. 9 men in double figures in a 41 pt win, and Giannis only had to play 20 minutes. I mean.... Other than the meh 3 pt defense... They're really rolling right now.
  10. Ive been thinking this about this guy for a bit as well.
  11. Good thing nobody busted out the "game over" posts earlier.. ;p
  12. This feels like the classic "reshuffling deck chairs on the Titanic" move. We have Shaw. If they're keeping him, cool. If they're going to non-tender Shaw, I REALLY hope it's not to bring in a guy who's had a super similar career track. Lamb isn't significantly different or better, this just feels like making a move to do it.
  13. In 2011 adam dunn hit .157 had 11 homers and had an ops well below .600. 2012 he hit 41 homers and had an .800 ops It happens.
  14. 16- 3 with the best PPG differential in the league and the "eye test" is still saying that they don't play defense the way some people want. I'm not sure what they should do at this point.
  15. I think when you look at it, Utah shot 21 and 45 from 3 and still needed a few late threes to make it look close. Utah only got to the free-throw line 11 times. They also got outrebounded by 9. Collapsing and defending the paint gives you a lot of advantages. Some nights, any given team will just get hot from outside the arc. The Bucks defensive rating from last year and this year has shown that defending the paint and denying high-percentage shots is effective. Denying the opponent trips to the free-throw line is effective. It definitely sucks when the opponent gets hot from 3 and it definitely is aesthetically ugly but they won 60 games last year, and they are 15 and 3 this year and their defensive efficiency rating points out that this is working. When you take something away such as the interior, you have to give something up. Everybody knows this, but interior shots are just higher percentage. Teams worked their tails off to deny the paint to Giannis in the playoffs. They'd rather have him kicking out to Middleton or Lopez and having them shoot threes then having Giannis laying it up or dunking it. The numbers don't lie. It's a good strategy, but it's easy to point out that it's not perfect on a given night that it doesn't look like it.
  16. Both fangraphs and br had him at 4 war. You dont penalize a guy for playing every day. Thats a plus. He was 3 war in 2016 per fg and 3.7 per br. If people just dont like him, thats ok, but the numbers are what they are. When multiple publications all put him at about the same value I'll take that over the ol eye test.
  17. You don't win by having no black holes in your lineup. You win with having stars in your lineup. The Brewer focus needs to be on bringing in an impact bat and a number 2 starting pitcher. As for what Villar brings, Starlin Castro is a much better player and he's available too. Villar ended up at 2B because he failed miserably at SS and 3B. Castro has ability to play 3B and his K rate is much lower than Villar's Villar has had a higher WAR than Castro 3 of the last 4 years, and K rate is almost meaningless. In 4 of the last 5 seasons, Castro has walked less than 30 times, so if he doesn't hit .290, he will OBP .300 or less. If the context is "as a 3rd baseman", he probably has more value to the Brewers, but he's not a much better player than Villar.
  18. Wow. I like this. As others have said, this might be peak Grisham value.
  19. I'd be shocked if a trade or signing isn't made. Remember Yaz signed on 1/14 last season. I just don't get the level of anxiety this early in free agency / offseason. Yaz was still available on 1/14 last year. I get what people are saying when they say it's still early, but the few decent chips for catchers are already falling off the table. At this point it's kind of either Jason Castro or a trade, and I don't really know what's available out there for a trade.
  20. I don't think anybody expects the Badgers to be in the cfp. I think all people are saying is there's a long shot scenario where it could still happen. There's more than a few things that have to go the right way for it to happen, but it's not mathematically dead yet. It's just like when the Brewers were quite a ways out of the playoff spot, nobody was predicting them to make the playoffs, just saying there was still a mathematical possibility. That's where the Badgers are. I honestly don't think anybody realistically thinks they have any thing more than a ghost of a chance if even that. But I don't think that's a terrible thing. The cfp has at least given fans something to hang on to late into the season.
  21. I agree that at this point in the season they're definitely the best team in the east. Even without Mids. A superstar, a good Supporting Cast and a deep bench. It's all there. I guess we'll see what other teams do at the trade deadline, but right now it's reasonable expectations to see them getting to the finals. Hard to see anything other than a bucks vs. Lakers finals
  22. The jazz without Gobert had no answer for Giannis in the 2nd half. Really fun game to watch. Hot shooting from Utah kept it close to the last few seconds. Awesome block by Lopez to seal it.
  23. I still think to this day the fact that Andre Dawson got the MVP in 87 over Smith is an absolute travesty and a complete joke. Smith had statistically the superior season, played for a team with a winning record, and honestly, in my opinion oh, what really stands out as impressive was getting 75 RBI without the benefit of a single home run. I understand he hit behind Vince Coleman , but I still think 75 RBIs while hitting second and having no homers was an impressive feat
  24. Ozzie was so much better than Vizquel. Ozzie put up 60 WAR from 1982 until 1992 and had 10 seasons over 5 WAR in his career. Vizquel had 1. I think "so much better" is an over exaggeration. Vizquel has a better career OPS, had better power, and was also a good base runner while playing in an era when teams just ran less. Teams are never going to put up the kind of stolen base numbers they did in the 70s and 80s, and Smith's WAR is likely propped up by gaudy stolen base numbers early in his career. He got more hype for the crazy defensive plays and the "Wizard of Oz" stuff, but the two of them are probably as similar as you're going to find overall stat wise. Vizquel was 2.5 war per 162 and ozzie was 4.9 war per 162. He definitely wasnt hype. As someone else pointed out, Smith had 8 seasons of 5+ war, Vizquel had one. Smith had a couple very legitimate mvp caliber seasons. I can understand the arguments for Vizquel in the HOF such as his longevity and 2900 hits, even if I ultimately disagree with them, but I really disagree with the notion that he's super comparable to Ozzie.
  25. In every game that Adams was out, the WR's were accounting for less than half of the receptions (and sometimes barely any) in every game. Jones, Williams, and the TE's were getting most of the balls. Adams in the last three games has been targeted 11, 10, and 12 times. In the Chargers game he was targeted 11 times and had 41 yards. In the 9'ers game, he was targeted 12 times, and had 43 yards. Rodgers clearly attempts to force him the ball, and it seems like it's detrimental to the offense. In two of those three games, they absolutely couldn't move the ball worth a crap. Nobody else is getting targeted even 5 times per game, so yeah, it seems like Adams makes the offense somewhat one-dimensional.
