  1. 17 point win that wasn't really ever close after half time and Brolo played the most minutes, at 27. Really like the development that Divincenzo has started to show from season 1 to season 2. Kid has a motor, plays with a lot of energy, and does a bit of everything on the floor.
  2. So he is a great fielder? I didn't say terrible. I said "Not a great fielder" His RF only UZR/150 is -1. Per season, as a RF only, he's negative, negative, negative, negative, plus, plus, negative, plus. He's kind of all over the place, and again, I can live with that.
  3. There's one season that says he's average in RF and people keep saying the numbers are skewed because he's been asked to play in CF. He played 12 games in CF last year, and hadn't played in CF previously since 2013. The narrative that playing CF has skewed the numbers is pretty false. He's played 45 games, TOTAL, in his career. If people want to argue that recently he's been reasonably average in the OF, that's plausible, but again, the CF numbers are so miniscule that they're not really skewing the numbers. I'll say this. I was responding to JMB who asked "why is this guy getting compared to Domingo Santana?" He's got a pretty hefty sample that says he's not a great fielder. He's an average-ish hitter for a corner outfielder, and he's not a great fielder. He's not an absolute butcher in the field, like Santana is, but I can see why people would make the comparison. The difference is (IMO) that Santana at this point has enough of a sample now that pretty much says he should only DH. Garcia is average enough that (as I previously stated) if he's even -5 for a season in a corner, he's not really hurting a team with his defense, as I'd consider that 'average'.
  4. If Garcia can play RF or LF and be a -5 dWAR fielder for 130 games, I think most of us can certainly live with that. That falls within the spectrum of what I think most people would consider "average" or slightly below. It has to be better than watching Thames out there judging balls with dangerous uncertainty or worse, watching Domingo butcher rather routine fly balls.
  5. And all this being said, I'm not against going and grabbing the guy. I'd much rather spend the money it will likely take to get Garcia than it would take to sign a "Name" like Castellanos. I think when it's all said and done, they're probably going to be pretty similar players. Castellanos will probably throw up an OPS around .830 - .840 and play bad defense and Garcia around an .800, and play bad defense at about 1/3rd the cost, and be around a 2 to 2.5 WAR player, and Castellanos will be a 3 to 3.5 WAR player, if that.
  6. I think this is skewed a bit by his younger seasons, where he had two that were -1.8-ish dWAR seasons. His more recent seasons have been much closer to average, and even those are skewed because TB had him play a bunch of CF last year, where he grades out poorly. Well, he played 12 games and 94 innings of CF last year, compared to 775 innings of RF. I don't think (going on numbers alone) that the guy is Domingo Santana bad, but the numbers (even the last few years) suggest he's still somewhat below average.
  7. 1 word-defense I understand that, but the Twitter trolls seem to think that Garcia's defense is bad as well. I'm not seeing any metrics that show his defense to look good. On fangraphs, he's career -43.5 runs career on defense, and on BR, he's -5.4 career dWAR. However you slice it, that's pretty bad. I've only seen the guy play a few times, so I'm just looking at data, which is likely what most of the twitter "trolls" are doing. When you have data sets over that amount of time, it's probably pretty accurate. We don't want the guy to be bad on defense because he's about to be our guy. The data suggests he's not that good. We're picking out things (sprint speed) and other things to say "hey, he's probably not THAT bad" to tell ourselves he's good on defense. The raw numbers say he is. It is what it is. He's a decent to solid bat who plays mediocre defense.
  8. Harden scored 54 points tonight, playing 36 minutes. With the Rockets up 21 points with 3 minutes to go, Harden was still out on the floor putting up shots. I get that the guy is a massively prolific scorer, but I guess I just don't know how impressive those numbers are when he's putting up points in garbage time like that. Giannis averages less than 32 mpg, and he sits out entire 4th quarters if the Bucks are up big. His per 36 numbers are pretty darn similar to Harden's in scoring. I know I'm beating on this drum a lot, but the guy is just out there padding stats.
  9. I doubt they have someone go 9-15 from 3 for multiple games in the playoffs. Great resilience to fight through and win. I doubt that too. Very much so.
  10. Bucks played like butt for 3 1/2 quarters and won by 13. Queue up the "they wont get away with a performance like this in the playoffs" comments.... :D Hope Bled's injury isn't super serious.
  11. When I worked in it support, the company I worked for had a majority of their customer base in the Deep South. So I learned a lot of the colloquial isms even when I didn't want to. I learned that one holler over is the next town. I learned that when someone says "do what now?" they are asking you to repeat yourself please, and if I'm being really honest that one really really actually makes me grit my teeth and want to punch holes in walls
  12. If you're not happy with this signing, you're free to state that, but Homer already asked you to stop bringing this argument into every thread. Thanks.
  13. I remember when Tyme's used to be all over. Also, I live in Janesville, and work in Madison, and I have never in my life heard anyone call a drinking fountain a bubbler, except my aunt Hazel. Hey, I had a great aunt Hazel when I was growing up in Janesville. Hmmm. We didn't interact with her much, though, and I don't know her take on the public drinking fountain object. My aunt Hazel (and uncle Wayne) moved to Phoenix, and she was definitely the type of person that would have called it a bubbler.
  14. I get what you're saying, but at the same time, Cole has earned this contract with his performance. The players percentage of baseball revenue is shrinking by the year while the owners make a ton of money. If we pay for the product the money is there for these guys to make. I don't begrudge these guys these huge contracts. It sucks that a smaller Market team like the Brewers can't afford a guy like this, but it just kind of is what it is. I certainly don't see wishing injury on a guy just because he's getting paid what the market will pay him. He's got a skill that will let him do something that very few people can do. Good for him.
  15. Well nobody suggested it was likely. I'm talking purely about upside. Both have had runs of dominance and runs of sketchy 4.00+ xFIP peripherals. Part of why Verlander is a Hall of Fame talent is because he had a resurgence after falling back to Earth for a few years (and because he has been unusually durable thought his long career, but that's a separate issue). If you want a guy you can dream of putting up 200+ IP seasons with a sub 3.00 ERA, the only pitchers available this offseason are/were Cole, Strasburg, and Bumgarner. Bumgarner is still relatively young and one could at least argue that his fall from dominance is due to a few years of injuries that he is now on the other side of. Fair point above about Ryu having similar upside, but he's obviously unlikely to be as durable. 100 million+ for dreams of upside on 30 year olds is not something teams with limited financial capabilities should be doing.
  16. When I see the words "verlander like resurgence" attached to ANY pitcher, I cringe. Verlander is almost a once in a generation talent. Bumgarner is a really good pitcher who's on the wrong side of 30, who has had some sketchy peripheral numbers the last few years, and who doesn't pitch well away from San Fran. I just don't like it when someone takes a hall of famer and says "this guy might perform like this hall of famer/once in a generation talent" because they happen to have a similar skill set or whatever. Justin Verlander is a singular talent, and paying Bumgarner 5/100 to hope that he has a Verlander like rennaisance is a fool's gambit.
  17. This year there was really no controversy. The 4 best power 5 conference Champs are in the playoffs. There have been some years where we've had some goofy stuff, like teams that didn't even make it to their conference Championship games getting in the playoffs. That being said I really feel like the only reason to expand the field to eight would be to see a few different teams in there. I'm not really against that, but wherever you draw the line you're always going to have a team that says hey we were the one that deserves to be in. I also think when you expand the playoffs a bit more you water the bowls down to the point where they just really are nothing more than a novelty, which they might already be to some degree.
  18. The playoffs have made the ny6 bowl games feel like a consolation prize. Obviously I don't think that was the intent but that's what it is. Everybody in an ny6 bowl game obviously at some point had playoff aspirations. But here we are. Think about the flip side, in the short BCS Championship era when only two teams were selected, we would have had an undefeated returning national champion left out of the title game. It's still not a perfect system but it's better than what we had
  19. It's been a few years for a rose bowl, so even though they maybe backed in a little bit with a loss, I think for a lot of Badgers fans, as plush says, this is the holy grail short of making the playoffs.
  20. Week after week Im told that there is a conspiracy to win them games and make sure the Packers lose. It turns out this might just be bad officiating??
  21. I dont disagree with any of that... But sometimes the hallmark of a winning team is winning when you have to deal with adversity. This team is pretty average. An average offense. Average defense, and lets be honest, pretty bad special teams, and they're 10-3. Somehow. They went into KC and won a thriller when Matt Moore or whoever played out of his mind. They held on against the Vikes. They came back against the Lions (ref aided) and didnt lay down when they were in a big hole. I dont know. This ain't a dominant team. But they have been tested many times. They didnt fold after the 9ers crushed them. I'm content that this season has been a big step towards being respectable again. If they get into the playoffs and make some noise (which they might....A-rodg can go off on any given day...) So much the better.
  22. And yet I never felt like they were actually in danger of losing the game.
  23. I am actually disappointed by this. I wanted the Badgers to play Auburn I will still watch the Rose Bowl because it is the Badgers but Wisconsin vs Auburn would have been a better game to watch. Better than the Taxslayer bowl vs Kentucky, which is what ESPN was projecting yesterday.
  24. From ESPN.... "Wisconsin is the only school to produce two 6,000-yard rushers. The other is Ron Dayne, the career rushing leader, with 7,125 yards." YYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! RECOGNITION!!!!!!! https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/28250065/wisconsin-rb-jonathan-taylor-plans-play-bowl-game
  25. Ehh, whatever. 49ers have looked beatable at times. Saints have looked beatable at times. Any of these teams are beatable. C’mon .. you still think this team will win more than one playoff game? I wouldn’t rule it out, but I also wouldn’t put money on it. Coming off a 7 win and 6 win season, I'll be happy if they win 11-12 games, win a playoff game (or even 2!) and look like they're headed in the right direction.
