  1. Coan has been really efficient (for the most part) but they really don't push the ball downfield at all. Not sure if he just can't, or if it's by design, but teams are really stacking the box and not really respecting downfield throws all that much. He dropped that nice dime to Cephus against Directional Michigan, but that was forever ago.
  2. That stop at the goal line sure looks big now. Defense didn't play great today, but the offense played poorly, and didn't finish drives.
  3. They're either going to beat Ohio St... or they're not. Voters aren't going to care by how much they beat Illinois if they beat Ohio St. Clemson has a one point win over North Carolina. Georgia has the aforementioned loss to SC it happens. Teams can't play absolutely perfect every game. The Badgers should win this game. Put the ugly performance in the rear view and get ready for Ohio St.
  4. Great teams play bad games now and then. Georgia lost to South Carolina at home last week, and is still in the Playoff discussion. I'd rather have the Badgers get their "Bad" game out of the way against Illinois, who they can play bad against and still win, than play bad against Ohio State.
  5. And yet the Badgers beat MSU 38-0 and Ohio State "only" beat MSU 34-10. That doesn’t make me feel any better... like not even a little bit. Appreciate the effort though. I sure hope we can rise to the occasion and give them a game, but not getting my hopes up. I think the point is that how teams fared against common opponents usually means very little.

  7. People just misconstrue the strikeouts don't matter argument. Broxton put up a .229 wOBA which is awful. If he had struck out that same amount and put up his 2017 wOBA of .308 we wouldn't care about the strike outs. The strikeouts led to him being awful so they do matter. Eugenio Suarez struck out 28.6% of the time this season which is awful. He put up a .381 wOBA and 4.5 WAR which is fantastic. You can be a really great baseball player and strike out a lot, the strike outs themselves aren't what matter. It is what you do when you put the ball in play that really defines things. There are a lot of players who struck out a lot less than Suarez who were not even close to as good as him, the K's don't define a player like that. Having said that Broxton's K rate was so absurdly high that even the best player in baseball would struggle to make his stat line valuable with their balls in play. This is basically what I'm saying though. Adam Dunn was a valuable offensive player and struck out an awful lot. He walked a lot and hit a lot of homers. I wouldn't care that Keon Broxton struck out 40% of the time if he did SOMETHING when he put the ball in play, but he isn't. When he was a .750-ish OPS guy with good defense, I was intrigued, even though he struck out 40% of the time. He had power, walked a good amount of the time, and had a lot of speed. But his K rate has gone up to an even more absurd rate, such that it would be simply impossible to have any value offensively.
  8. I really liked Perez, and as a long time Brewer (relatively speaking) I'm sad to see him go. But the last 2 years failing to carry even a .700 OPS really sealed the deal. I hope he catches on somewhere and gets his bat going.
  9. I think the Trade Value webesite is pretty neat, and it does a nice job of generating fan site discussion and hot stove fodder, but I'm not sure it always does a great job of actually valuing players properly, or really let's you mish mash players contextually. A player might be worth X, and another player might be worth Y, but if you just take a pile of players worth XYZ, are they lumped together worth XYZ? I'm not sure that's the case. There's a lot of factors that I don't think a website calculator can take into account. The sum of a pile isn't always worth the whole. EDIT TO ADD: I want no part of Trevor Story and the money he's owed outside of Coors, if it involves giving up Huira . I don't like the argument of "Lemahieu hit good in Yankee stadium, so Story will probably/possibly/maybe be fine". 1) Yankee stadium might be as good a hitters park as COors. 2) one guy hit great outside of Coors, and anyone can probably quickly find 10 guys that struggled once they were no longer Rockies. IF they stay with a juiced ball, he will be fine! Welll...... they had a juiced ball this year and he didn't crack an .800 OPS outside of Denver. Is that a gamble the Brewers should take with a cornerstone bat like Keston Huira? I'm not sure about that. EDIT 2 to add, If the calculator requires the Brewers to take a busted contract like Wade Davis to make it "work", it's fundamentally broken. The Brewers aren't in position to be paying 8.00 ERA relievers 15 million dollars per year to make trades work to get expensive Shortstops, in place of their currently inexpensive .950 OPS 2nd baseman.
  10. That was my entire argument during the game. Intent didn't matter it was a blow to the helmet. That it wasn't intentional was the reason he wasn't ejected
  11. I would guess (and I truly am guessing) that it's less than 20%.
  12. I think when you have a football game that is decided by 7 points or less, it's really easy to say "if this one play didn't happen", etc, etc, etc. Well, I mean, it's the nature of football that if any one of several of the plays swing the other way, it's entirely possible that the game turns out differently. The interception at the goal line. The Lions TD that wasn't a TD. 2 phantom hands to the face. There's a ton of plays that you can say "if that play goes the other way.... " the game swings. It was a 1 point game. It's really easy to play the what if game in football. At the end of the day, the Packers won. Gifts from the zebras......whatever. At the end of the season, it's just another W.
  13. Well I'll say this. The defense played like poop the first quarter+, and then played really good the rest of the way. They played well against the run tonight (hey, it's the Lions, but still) and continued to get pressure on the passer all night long. Lions jumped out to a big lead and the defense didn't let the game get out of hand and let the offense slowly grind their way back into it.
  14. I like their chances, but I'm not going to call it automatic.
  15. Didn't see pylon cam. I'm also wondering if that's an angle the replay booth didn't have access to. If they don't have that angle, they probably didn't have enough evidence to overturn, because every other angle it looks like the ball crosses the plane before his knee touches down.
  16. I've watched the Lazard catch just now a handful of times in slow mo, and stopped it when his knee hits, and to me it looks like the ball is at least a good couple inches over the plane of the goal when his knee hits.
  17. Lazard possibly being down before the endzone cancels out the possible Lion TD that was granted when they were potentially stopped on 4th and goal in the first quarter in that rugby scrum. He might have broken the plane, he might not have, so I consider those two events cancelling each other out.
  18. That was my question too. Obviously the refs were looking for it. It was a cheap call, but why even give the refs an opportunity to call it? Poor play from one of those vaunted "former Patriots" the announcers were all excited about. Except it wasn't a poor play. It was a perfectly legal play and it was a super bad call.
  19. I don't know how I'm going to feel about this win if Crosby makes this FG.
  20. What a savvy play by WIlliams. Great game awareness.
  21. 3rd and 5 is manageable, and the Lions are out of TO's
  22. Lazard trying to turn this into MMA
  23. Shepard just don't touch the ball.
