  1. I'm certain he was brought in with the intention of pitching 2 innings. Once he struggled and threw 30 pitches, he probably wasn't going to go back out for the 9th, though it wasn't impossible. I question the logic of "the announcers said so, so it must be so", however.
  2. If people just don't like Villar, that's one thing, but 2 of the last 4 years, he's had a 4 WAR season. Almost a 3 WAR player in 2018. He sucked in 2017. He's perfectly serviceable at SS. Dude is a good ball player.
  3. Just because the tv guys said he was pitching the last 2 innings doesn't mean that was absolutely going to happen. They aren't in the dugout.
  4. Keep in mind 2 weeks ago kent put up 750 yards and 60 points. I know it was against a mac opponent but still.... This defense is gooood.
  5. There's never not going to be old-school baseball guys who don't get their feelings hurt by guys who don't "play the right way". It's stupid but that's how it is.
  6. A couple things here. Yes, Villar had a nice season. With that said hindsight is 20/20, I'm not sure anyone really questioned the move at the time and it's much easier to put up those kind of numbers 40 games back of contention. I certainly questioned trading him for a 2nd baseman when we already had like 5 of them on the roster.
  7. I'm 100% sure that Josh, Chris Hook, and Counsell are acutely aware that his longevity is tied to him developing either his slider or another pitch and being able to reliably throw it for strikes. That being said, knowing it and doing it are two different things. If it were that easy, history would be absolutely littered with dominating relievers rather than flameouts like Turnbow.
  8. when I was a kid, I was SURE that there would eventually come a time that the Brewers would be champs in my lifetime, and then I realized "wow, this might not come to be". I've witnessed the Packers win two superbowls, which was awesome. Badgers got to the NCAA title game. Talk about heartbreak. How did a non-blue blood like UW get there (and almost pull it off??!!) Bucks are poised to be a contender for the NBA title like.....right now (FINALLY!) and the Brewers have a GM who has us in the playoffs for back to back seasons for the first time since 1982 (which makes me lawl when people talk about firing him) So.... yeah, I've accepted that it might not happen. But I could Never, ever find myself ditching the team or rooting for someone else.
  9. Hader had a stretch from July 1st through August thirteenth where he gave up 7 homers in just 14 games. That's half the homers he gave up for the season when he absolutely couldn't get his fastball up in the zone. For the rest of the year he was pretty much lights out. He was simply outstanding in September. Relievers and closers blow saves once in a while. If they didn't, they'd just say "ok, game over" when teams brought in their closers. There are no automatic closers in the league. We got spoiled last year by having a nice run of the bullpen being shut down for a while (and again this September). It's going to be vital for Hader to develop that slider going forward, and I think most people know that relievers are generally pretty volatile year to year, but the guy still has a ton of talent and hopefully that can still be coached out of him going forward.
  10. Playing against 2 teams with nothing to play for the brewers and Cardinals combined to go 1-5 on the final weekend with the divison title on the line.
  11. There is a 100% chance that tje word "compete" or some variation id used at least twice by Craiger in the post game presser.
  12. They are really doing this. For some reason. This is one of those questions id love one of the beat guys to ask counsell.
  13. Why not just airmail a wild pitch? The last thing they need is a 14-15 inning drag out here...
  14. Ted Thompson ruined football for me. I still check the box scores and watch the Badgers but I gave up on the NFL. I think the physics of football and Chris Borland ruined football for me, but I still catch the Badgers occasionally. It's baseball and college hoops for me. That's also part of it for me. "Player safety" is a punchline to a pretty bad joke. I hate Jim McMahon, but seeing interviews with him where he forgets things that were said 10 minutes ago is sad and sobering.

  16. Markakis has had some serious longevity for being "just a guy". Hes had 2 seasons over a 3.0 war in his entire career. He's super replaceable but he keeps plugging along....
  17. Well. If someone tosses an inning and throws 15 or fewer pitches they should be good by Tuesday
  18. pending today: T5 Miguel Cabrera 1595 T5 Elvis Andrus 1595 #4 Starlin Castro 1616 #3 Adam Jones 1647 #2 Nick Markakis 1651 #1 1695 I thought about adam jones. Didnt think he'd have enough to seriously be up the list
