  1. Because if we’re right we get 2 good years from Lyles instead of 1. If he has the kind of year his stuff/command warrants, he’d price himself out of our range the following year. This is how teams like the Orioles and lolMets and Tigers land at the bottoms of their divisions for several years in a row. By being run like video game teams.
  2. Come on, Jordan Lyles has been in the big leagues for 9 years and he's been below average for literally all of those 9 years. He's having a nice run, and that it lines up for us is great. But suddenly everyone is supposed to eat crow and we're gonna offer the guy a 3 year deal? What? I know, I know "check out that curveball" and stuff..... but it's super easy to get enamored by things the eye test tells you, but this is a NINE YEAR journeyman who's been really bad for most of those 9 years, and suddenly he's caught lightning in a bottle. I'm happy for the Brewers that he's held it together, but everything says this is smoke and mirrors. His peripherals this year are in line with his career numbers. Thirty two innings of a 2 1/2 era can be done with luck by just about anyone.
  3. If brew crew 92. (Or anyone) wants to start a thread discussing the merits of extending Hiura and Grisham, that's fine. Let's keep this thread discussing the topic of a Hiura trade.
  4. Yelich Hader > 8-9 top 100 prospects Moose Grandal Albers > 3 prospects all outside of the top 700 prospects 10% of the top 100 for 2 guys..... These scenarios keep getting more and more fantastic.
  5. Yes I would totally hit jim Edmonds with a pitch today
  6. Using Miller and having Carlos Martinez warming up in a 12-2 game? I mean the pitching change with a 10 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th. Did he really?
  7. Man, there was no way I figured Gio to get through 5 tonight. Not that it did us any GOOD, but just getting through 5 might save the bullpen and give us a chance in the next 2 games.
  8. Waino's out of the game! I smell a comeback brewin!!!
  9. Spangenberg was not even good enough to make the 40 man roster out of spring training, man. He's nothing. He's a waiver wire guy. Nelson has been a complete disaster and has to be in the camp of "prove it" before he can be counted on for anything. Peralta was recently demoted from the MLB roster because of how bad he was pitching and sports a 5.73 ERA and -.9 WAR on the year. Suter is a secondary soft tossing 6th starter/swingman who hasn't pitched in 13 months. These. Are the guys. You are expecting to rescue a -30 run differential team and turn it into a playoff team. And you see no problem with this. You follow what’s happening with their rehabs, you know your seriously sandbagging/downgrading what Nelson and Suter are doing at San Antonio for an extended period of time. And Peralta’s last game 0 BBS 5 Ks. That's all fine and well, but Suter still hasn't pitched against MLB hitting in 13 months. Nelson was awful when he was up. Peralta has been pretty darn awful much of the season. You're counting on a LOT of things to go seriously right to just start to turn things around, let alone turn a mediocre team into a necessary 8 out of 10 winning streak. I don't think anyone is saying "don't be optimistic", but that's a LOT that has to go right, and most of those guys haven't even scratched MLB this season. Spangenburg? There's a reason he's been in AAA all year. He's a .700 OPS utility guy. Suter isn't a secret weapon. He's a decent multi-role soft tossing lefty. Nelson might not have anything to offer against MLB hitting. We don't even KNOW that yet, so calling him a "weapon" already is SUPER pre-mature based on AAA stats.
  10. No team with a -30 run differential has ever made the playoffs. That the Brewers have hung around this long is something of a small miracle. That's not an excuse for the deficiencies, as there's a few, just pointing out a statistical fact.
  11. Wade Miley's average fastball this year is 91.0 mph. I think that qualifies as a soft tosser.
  12. I think our little experiment of a rotation full of soft tossers has proven this point. You don't need it, but it sure helps. Well, the opening day rotation had Burnes and Peralta, who I would not qualify as soft tossers.
  13. As bad as Hiura's defense has been, he projects out to a 5-ish WAR player over a full season. Braun was "launching the Titanic" bad in 2007. He was a -2.9 dWAR, and over 113 games, his defense was so bad, he was only a 2.0 WAR. It's tempting to think of what Hiura can bring back, but despite everyone's eye test, he's not so bad at defense that he's "Ryan Braun / historically bad" I think he makes some really really bad throws and that skews the perception of how "bad" he is at defense. A comically bad throw now and then is still only one error. Hiura is pretty athletic, and makes some decent plays, and if he can't stick at 2nd, let's find a place for the dude. He's going to put up some .325/35/125 seasons. This isn't Domingo Santana we're talking about trading away here, this is a dude that could put up some .950/1.000 OPS seasons (he already is).
  14. Ray is already at 56 pitches. He's not pitching into the 8th Have you seen Arcia and company? Some of these guys may have no idea that's the approach to take. Hope you are right. In response to this repeated and often hot false narrative, I'll point out again, that the Brewers lead the national league in pitches per plate appearance. In order for Ray to work in to the eighth inning at his current pace he'll have to work somewhere around 130 pitches or so, and I'm not sure that's on the agenda given that most major league pitchers are yanked around 90 to 100 pitches.
  15. Ray is already at 56 pitches. He's not pitching into the 8th
  16. In this kind of low contact/high homerun environment, it really just doesn't make sense to attempt steals with your 3-4-5 guys coming up. Giving up outs, or even taking the chance to give up an out to gain an extra base when such a high percentage of your scored runs come from homers doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
  17. The pace/rate at which you anoint guys is honestly alarming.
