  1. I give up! You don't get the fact that it is inherently "UNFAIR" that some teams have far more spending money every year than others. The likelihood of such teams being a perennial contender is much higher as a result. If that is not painfully obvious to you and others, I would consider it either willful blindness or insanity. It's time for the fans to strike! I absolutely get the fact that it's unfair. I just don't find it necessary that a sports league be inherently fair. If you disagree with me on that, that's cool. I simply disagree on principal with the premise that a sports league needs to be "fair".
  2. The fans of Tampa are already "revolting". KC won two AL titles and a world series. Minny has the best team in the league this year. Detroit has a garbage team because they're rebuilding after shedding a bunch of aging expensive vets and they're paying Miguel Cabrera a billion dollars a year, and Baltimore is paying Chris Davis a billion dollars a year to hit .150 I absolutely don't want the Brewers to go on a spending rampage so they can throw huge money at guys that simply either 1) don't deserve it or 2) won't be worth it at the tail end. Look at Braun RIGHT NOW. He's being paid 20 million to hit .270, OPS .750 and play bad defense. A team like the Brewers can't afford to pay premiums for mediocre players in their late 30's, and yet here we are. In this "fair league" teams like the Brewers and Royals would be paying guys like Braun and Cabrera and Pujols at the tail end of their careers a lot more often, and I don't care if that's not "fair", small market and mid-market teams are smart to stay away from that as often as they can.
  3. The Brewers have 2 division titles this decade and two trips to the NLCS. It actually has been pretty enjoyable.
  4. If the MLB was a "fair" league like the NFL, it would not be an issue. Meh. I've already established that I'm not super interested in MLB having a cap. And by "not super interested" I mean "not at all"
  5. I appreciate the fact that virtually every game thread is about our payroll. It's a discussion that we've brought up about 70 times out of just north of 80 games...
  6. This is exactly why they damn well better have a new rotation arm by this time next week. Stearns would be irresponsible as a GM to NOT have a new arm by next week. I think he's way too passive to begin with...the fact he has done NOTHING to this point doesn't help his cause with me, and if not a new arm by next week, then I'm really done with him. You going to fire him?
  7. Burnes. Scary but yeah, probably. Wonder if they consider leaving Junior in? Please no. Let's live or die with Burnes.
  8. I get "Playing to win" this game because they have the lead, it's in the hand, and you don't even know if you'll have a lead in the next two games. You'd be saving Hader for potential situations that may or may not exist. It's a darned if you do, darned if you don't situation. If they take Hader out, end up losing 7 - 6, and then don't have a lead the next two days, Counsell would get absolutely crucified. Managing your resources (innings available) is easy to 2nd guess, and really, it just stinks that our bullpen sucks to the point that THIS decision even has to be made and 2nd guessed....
  9. And that, kids, is why you want the DH in the national league. When the risk of injury is such that you send a guy out there and tell him "don't even swing", what even is the point?
  10. I'd say it's a no brainer, but the Brewers non-tendered Chris Carter. Big power/low average guys with little flexibility don't have a big market. I know Thames is hitting in the .270's now, but let's see where he finishes up. I like Thames. I like him 4-5 days a week, and I like him especially if he never plays in the OF. I don't know if a 1B, platoon lefty .850-ish OPS guy like Thames is worth 7.5 million to a team like the Brewers. The problem is that they have nothing waiting in the wings and nothing on the roster as a sure replacement.
  11. I'm not going to say saladino is going to light the world on fire, but 12 at-bats seems to me like a small sample size. He did have a 701 OPS last year in 130 plate appearances and he did hit five home runs. I would expect over time for him to put up a line pretty similar to Arcia. Not that that really solved any offensive issues but 12 bats and making a judgment seems pretty rash
  12. Initially really disappointed to lose Brogdon. But if he just really didn't like Milwaukee and didn't want to be here, getting something back for him and letting him go was better than nothing. Mirotic didn't play much in the regular season for the bucks and was just brutal in the playoffs, and his defense really is bad. There's just no other way to put it, he doesn't defend well at all. That's not revisionist history, he can't get back down the floor, he's slow he's basically a statue on defense. DJ Wilson is still pretty raw but he showed a lot of flashes this last year. There's no way Sterling Brown and ddv replace Brogdon minutes, but I'm sure the Bucks see a future for ddv in Milwaukee. I know it was just the Pistons, but the Bucs swept the Pistons with an average margin of victory of like 20 points with no Brogden.
  13. Vlad Jr in the derby is hopefully gonna be fun. I like the pick.
