  1. I think the point was that he's not nearly a top 20% outfielder. He's been solid, worth putting on the field, and not a liability, but he's not a top 20% OF'er, and whether or not the money is already spent, really not worth his contract (as guys over 35 almost never are). It's valid to point out that his production (while solid) doesn't match his pay. The Brewers are in a position, and probably always will be where they shouldn't be paying guys in their late 30's this kind of money.
  2. That he was facing hoskins in a 2 run game was just stupid.
  3. There's a lot of famous fans like Spike Lee or Jack Nicholson or whoever. None of them get on the court or touch the players or the coaches. Don't tell me how Drake is an employee. He's a brand ambassador, whatever that is. He doesn't need to be on the court being involved, and touching the players and coaches. He's making this more about him then the players and the game. Also, if Toronto is cool with making a suspected pedophile their mascot, good on them.
  4. The popular narrative is that Bud's teams have underachieved/played poorly in the playoffs. In 2014 as the 8 seed, they lost the first round series in 7 games (honestly, that's overachieving, IMO) In 2015 as the 1 seed, they made it to the conference finals, and lost to the Lebron Cavs. Disappointing? Yup. Everyone not named the Warriors was losing to Lebron at this point though. In 2016 as the 4 seed, they won the first round series, then got swept by the Cavs. Not really underachieving. Then in 2017, they were the 5 seed, and lost in 6 games to the four seed. Only one time did they lose to a lower seeded team, and that team was the Lebron-led Cavaliers. One could argue that their performace against the Cavs was underachieving and disapppointing, for sure, but they went out and won some series.
  5. I don't think Davies is close to a lock yet. He's got a ridiculously low ERA, but his strikout numbers aren't "sexy", and there's still a lot of time for that ERA to climb back to a relatively normal level. Lots of room for fluctuation with a number like ERA still this early. Yelich is a lock. Hader is probably a lock, unless he keeps giving up 9th inning/extra inning dingers. If Woodruff's ERA keeps going down and he keeps racking up K's and wins, he's going to be in consideration. Extreme dark horse -- Braun.
  6. A guy hit a medium deep fly ball into a stiff wind with a slow runner on 3rd, and then they got a super lucky bounce on a wild pitch. Yikes. Sometimes stuff happens.
  7. I love that Doolittle said "He likes to remind everyone how smart he is". Maddon tries to play this dumb meta game with everyone, and it's just annoying and stupid. He's not revolutionary and cutting edge. He thinks he still is, and it's just really made him into a guy I find annoying as h-e double hockey sticks.
  8. It's actually 10 (semantics, I know ), and 11 if you count the '83 76'ers. But still, yeah, your point remains....
  9. I think Toronto is going to win one at home. I think.... But man, their body language and expressions tonight sure looked like a team that is already defeated.
  10. Charles Barkley just pledged 45k to malcolm brogdons clean water initiative in africa. They shook hands on it. Pretty cool.
  11. Case in point.... the 1-4 seeds swept the 5-8 seeds this year. The 1 seeds beat the 4 seeds, and the 2 seeds split with the 3 seeds. Higher seeded teams are 11 - 1 in 12 series so far.
  12. In MLB, or even in the NFL, there's incentive to make the playoffs. If you make the playoffs, you have a shot to win it all. Maybe the lower seeds don't win a lot, but they do often enough that just making the playoffs are incentive enough to try to make that last playoff spot. In the NBA, realistically, there's probably 5 or 6 teams each year (or even less) that have a shot to win it all. The last few years, we pretty much knew it was the Warriors, Cavs, and maybe one or two other teams. 8 seeds have won I think 2 or 3 series ever, since the NBA went to a 16 team field. In MLB, not only do wild card teams semi regularly win a series, 6 wild card teams have won world series in 24 years. I don't know.... it doesn't feel like there's a great answer to this question, but there should be some sort of way to incentivize teams in the NBA to chase those last few playoff spots a bit harder. I don't know that tanking is a huge problem the way people say it is, but at the same time, how many years do you want to watch what happened in Philly before you get the payoff? As a fan, that's pretty brutal.
  13. I just think the Raptors did Dwane Casey dirty. He/the Raptors lost to Lebron James, so he got fired. After a 59 win season. Now they're going to lose to Giannis and the Bucks, after a 58 win season.
  14. I think the Raps were able to get past Philly because Philly also had no bench. They're going to have to play some of their bench guys. When you see the BUcks outboarded the Raps 18-6 in the 4th quarter, that's a pretty telling stat.
  15. Lowry definitely won't go 7/8 from three again, but I think Lopez won't go off for 29/11 again either. The Bucks shot really bad from three, but they can get to the line and score points inside when they have to, and prevent other teams from doing the same. Raps went cold from three in the 2nd half (except Lowry) Gonna be a good, tough series still, I think.
  16. Raps playing their starters 40+. Not sure how much that potential fatigue will matter in the greater scheme of things, but the Bucks lean on the bench a lot more.
  17. Good job bled. Ate up clock and go to the line.
  18. Lopez has had a great game. He's played fantastic interior defense, played really good offense down low, actually grabbed some boards, and hit some big threes late.
  19. I was told this is why they shoot through cold snaps.
  20. I feel like you mention this every time a team shoots over 40% for a game against the Bucks, and yeah, it's frustrating to watch. But the BUcks went 60-22, have the best defensive rating in the league, went 9-4 against the top 4 teams in the East, swept Houston in two games, went 1-1 vs Golden State, swept Denver.... What they're doing wins games. They win the majority of the time against the best teams. Yes, there are nights when a team gets hot from 3 and they get burned. Over 82 games (or even 7 games) is that sustainable? I'm gonna say "probably not".
  21. All that crap is so dumb. I wish some commissioner would just issue a 2 month suspension for the next guy who does it and finally put an end to it once and for all. 100% agree. Baseball is going to be a better game when these Meatheads like Arrieta and Bumgarner and Brian McCann don't feel like it's necessary to defend the Integrity of the game anymore. Or when baseball just starts issuing lengthy suspensions for their Meathead Behavior
