    I thought Dave Krynzel would come up and contribute in some fashion. I think everyone knew Antone WIlliamson was a disaster from the get-go. JM Gold.....meh. Same. Man..... we couldn't draft worth a CRAP back then.

    I don't call BJ a 'miss'. He had a long, very servicable career. 2300 hits, 34 WAR, 1100 RBI. He wasn't a superstar, but he was good enough to hang around 19 years and compile a good (not great) war. Was he worthy of a #1 pick? No, probably not, but a lot of #1 picks don't even stick for 5 years. I was always a Surhoff fan. I think we could go all day on prospects that never scratched the big leagues, so maybe I read the OP wrong. I picked BJ not because he was a bust, not at all, but because he never was a true star like most everyone assumed he would become. As I mentioned, I was a huge fan of his. However, his time with Milwaukee, in particular, was pretty meh. Bonds (jerk), Palmeiro (cheater, liar), Larkin (HOF), and Will Clark. I still don't call Surhoff a "miss". Gregg Jefferies is further down that list in the first round, and he was supposed to be 'can't miss', and he wasn't a flame out (he played like 15 years, but had a few decent years, and was about as close to average as a guy can be. To me, BJ is like Rickie Weeks. He's a serviceable/decent ballplayer who gets scrutinized because of expectations. He didn't live up to the hype, so he's labelled a bust/letdown. BJ was a good ballplayer who wasn't worthy of being a number one pick.

    Going back in time.......when I was a kid...... I thought Billy Jo Robideaux was going to be our first baseman for years to come. Of course I wasn't even a teenager yet. I just saw the guy's minor league stats and they were MONSTER. Of course I had no idea that even I could have hit 20 homers at El Paso. Also, he had a boss name.

    You make it sound like it's ore or less random. The Pirates had losing seasons....... what? 18 years in a row? If it was as random as suggested, one would think they would have lucked into a winning season somewhere in there, wouldn't they? I agree that there is variance, but bad teams lose more than they win. This is not a good team.

    Buster Olney, who I usually can't stand, defending Will Smith on Mike and Mike today. The thing Smith did wrong was put the substance in such a blatantly noticeable spot.

    Even Braun has said he'll never play 3B again. Clancy's going to ride that horse into the ground for all it's worth though.

    Still absolutely dumbfounded by that. Would have been somewhat understandable if he had blown the doors off the league this past year, but he did not. He was somewhat better than his career numbers, but not amazingly so. Nothing to suggest he was 'breaking out' or anything.

    I just randomly picked out Wade Boggs, and randomly chose 1988. I easily scanned his game logs and found a 13 game stretch where he went 8 for 49 with 2 extra base hits. No......Scooter isn't Wade Boggs. The point is, over the course of a season even GREAT hitters go through bad patches. Let's not bench Scooter yet. He's proven over a full season + that he can hit MLB pitching. He's earned more than 50 plate appearances at the start of a season to show that this isn't just a rough patch.

    I wonder how many times teams have come back from 10 games under .500 to make the postseason, vs. not doing it. I'm sure the percentages are not in our favor at all. We can keep pointing at the 2012 A's, but someone doing it doesn't mean it's common or to be expected.

    Ok, I'll change the phrasing. There are people who want to see a roster overhaul, and understand that losing will be the only way management will choose that path. It's all aesthetics. Some people prefer their team building to be done via spending money on FA vets. Some people prefer to see it done through the farm. Those who prefer to see player development will never get to see that done here as long as Doug Melvin is running the show. Those who want to see a "blow it up and build it from scratch" will never get to see their wish with the Moustachio Man at the helm. Unless a complete disaster of a season with the current (and healthy) roster shows him that what he's doing isn't working. (and even then it might not work)

    I think there's a lot of people confusing "wanting to lose" with understanding that the Brewers are in desperate need of a roster overhaul. I do not, and would never root for the Brewers to lose a game. I do, however understand the intangible value a 60-102 season would have. It would absolutely FORCE this ownership/management group to understand that patching gaping holes with old, overpriced vets to "go for it" one more year is not a viable team-building option. People say "well you never know if those young players will pan out!" as if signing guys like Aramis Ramirez and Kyle Lohse and Jeff Suppan has provided us ANYTHING of value whatsoever, as far as making it to the promised land. Doug's been our GM for how long? We've won one postseason series. Let's try something else for a change.

    At its inception, a baseball game was won when one side scored 21 aces. The game has changed a lot, and the beanball craze is one thing that needs to go as well. Well it's not going away any time soon and as long as you have teams like the Cardinals that continue to throw at guys your risking your own players getting hurt by not playing along. If Ken Macha's strongly worded letter to the commissioner didn't stop it, nothing will. Ok, so the Cardinals throw inside, and hit a guy. You hit a guy back. You are now going to not get guys hit because of this? That is your implication. You are saying the Cardinals will now not hit your batters? Or throw inside? This is eminently false.

    Many times this. For all the things I can't stand about Roenicke, the one thing I appreciated was that he refused to get embroiled in idiotic beanball wars with ass-hats like LaRussa or Gibson.

    Things that are not likely to happen, and the odds of them happening. Braun becoming a .950 - 1.000 OPS hitter again. I'd say 1 in 8. Braun is an elite talent. However, he's got the thumb issue, a history of other niggling injuries, and he's on the wrong side of 30. He's also a previous performance enhancer, and we just don't know to what degree that enhanced his ability in his peak years. Maybe not at all. But at this point, I just don't think it's highly likely that he's ever going to be a "Top-5 in the game" type hitter going forward. And that's ok. If he can be an .850-ish hitter (possible, bordering on probable), he's still going to earn his money. Braun getting traded. I'd say something around 1/10 to 1/12. Despite a lot of talk about Lucroy now being the "Face of the Franchise", Luc has an eminently more tradeable contract, is approaching a really bad age for a catcher, and just doesn't have the hit ability to stick around at first base if he declines. We know how Mark A operates, and I think no matter how bad they are this year, Mark is going to want to "reload" rather than "rebuild". Maybe a disastrous 65 win season will finally be the impetus he needs to see that reloading with middling and overpriced, aging vets is not what this club needs, but we'll see. I don't see this club as being ready to cut bait with Brauny yet.     To make a comprehensive list would be difficult. For me personally, I only ever boo'd a manager. Players, no matter how bad they are, are probably almost always giving their best athletic effort. Managers are another story. Garner, Yost......we've had some doozies who couldn't manage a game of tic tac toe to a tie. And that deserves a hearty BOOOOOOOOO!

I expected about a 75 win team, but this team might scuffle to win 65 games. Patch, patch, patch, patch, and now the bill has finally come due. It's time for Melvin to go.

    At what price?? HHe's coming off back to back seasons of .739 and .745 OPS, he can't stay clean, and he can't stay off the DL. He isn't the hitter he once was (he's 34), and he's owed a dumptruck of money for the next three years. There's absolutely nothing about this that says "go out and get this guy". We have a guy in LF right now, who is outproducing Hamilton, and who will likely continue to do so, without the 90 million dollar contract, drug problems, and multiple DL stints per year.

    In 8 years, Braun is a 36 WAR player. In 17 years, Gantner put up 22 WAR. Without the specter of PEDS, Braun is still 5X the player Gantner is. This will turn into a popularity contest, just like every other 'fan voting' event.

    Completely different set of muscles and arm motion. I play softball and can still hit the ball a mile and a half, but can no longer play outfield because I literally can not throw the ball even from medium-deep outfield to a cutoff man. I played LF one game last year and the SS had to come 40 feet out into the grass last year to take one-hop cutoff throws from me. Just can't make that throw anymore.
