  1. Pfff....don't feel bad. I've been wrong a LOT this year. I predicted a 3- 8 road trip after the all star break that would be the pre-cursor to the Brewers falling out of the race. Your faux pas, in hindsight, is far less egregious.
  2. I think even 35 homers is generous. He's at 27 with 20 games to go. Hitting 8 in 20 games is not at all out of the realm of possibility, but I'd say it's at least a little bit of a long shot.
  3. It'd be sweet to trade Wolf for something of value after GETTING value out of him this year. A lot of people looked at him as Suppan 2.0, and he was pretty bad in the first half last year, had a decent 2nd half, and has gotten really good results this year (Notice I didn't say has 'performed well' http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ) At this point, I'm happy with the production we've gotten out of him, but if he can be flipped for something we need, I'd feel a lot better about the Crew not playing Salary Roulette with Wolf again next year.
  4. Molitor's 87 season was probably the best. Despite missing almost 50 games, he lead the league in runs and doubles, hit .353, and had an OPS of 1.003 while stealing 45 bases. It's close though. Molly gets the nod for the .438 OBP.
  5. This. Seeing as it's an almost given now that the Crew wins the central, unless Braun absolutely falls apart over the last 20 games (which he won't), I think it won't even really be close now between Braun and aynone else except MAYBE Fielder, if Fielder gets red hot the next 3 weeks.
  6. So it would be faux pas for me to post the Wild Card Magical Number?I'd have to say it'd be next to impossible to win the wild card at this point, wouldn't it? If we aren't leading the division, something's gone horribly, horribly wrong, and we'd have to have seen the Braves lose just as much as we have over the final 20 for us to be leading the wild card, but not the division.
  7. Oh, I completely understand that. I even admitted it was a knee jerk reaction. But that's why I asked the question "when is it no longer 'bad luck?" And it's not like there CAN'T be an explanation. One simple, possible explanation is easy. Team starts out poorly on the road, due in large part to bad luck. Team is 5 - 15 on the road, the guys allow the mental aspect of their poor road record to affect their play on the road, and voila, it becomes a self fulfilling prophesy. I know that many will discount the mental aspect because it's not quantifiable, I'm only saying it's a possibility, not a fact. And obviously, I don't think anyone predicted a 20 - 7 road stretch that would regress them back to the mean this quickly. And the home record is easily explainable. They're cheating!
  8. Marcum's trade value? I'd say he should bring back a 1.050 -ish OPS 3B, who's young, under team control for 6 years, and can steal bases too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. I'm sure there's going to be plenty of 'bitter' Brewer fans when Prince most likely leaves as well. It's the nature of sports. Also, I agree with you on the 'props' for being able to get through his SAD and get his job done. You can absolutely tell when he's being interviewed that he's not all that comfortable around people, or being a focal point. It's interesting, because I know 2 people that use SAD as a very convenient excuse to not have to work, and get disability pay. And I'm not at all suggesting that a majority of the people with SAD are 'faking it', or that even a minority are. But I DO know 2 people that basically are, and think it's the cats meow that they're getting money off the gov't teet for something that can't really be proven one way or the other. And that's what's disgusting about it, is that it makes it harder for people to understand or take seriously a guy like Greinke, who by all appearances and description, to be genuinely afflicted with a very real mental disorder.
  10. Thanks for sharing Mass. Good article.
  11. This was absolutely one of the more fun games to watch in a while. Kottaras hitting for the cycle. The offense piling on runs in the late innings. Narveson getting OUT of jams! And being able to work the 6th through the 9th with what is essentially the 'garbage' relievers.
  12. For SURE 2 homers, and you're probably right, it would have been 3. He was destroying the ball tonight. His OPS for the season is now up to a nice .823. Not too many back up catchers can claim that.
  13. In 2008 they changed managers with 2 weeks to go, in the middle of a pennant race.
  14. I was both surprised and pleased to see him give Green a shot in that situation tonight. And Green, I'm sure to Roenicke's complete surprise, didn't poop the bed in fear, and delivered with a fly ball single to the opposite field that kicked off a nice 3 run, 2 out rally.
  15. Also of note for the Brewers tonight, the Giants lead the D'Backs 3 - 2 in the 5th inning right now.
  16. I feel eminently comfortable with a 3 run lead with K-Rod and Ax closing out this thing. I wish I could say the same about the Cards game though.
  17. What a HUGE break to have Corey's popup hit the roof. I REALLY wish we'd stop going for 2nd on throws to home on singles though...........I honestly don't remember the last time we actually got that base in that situation without getting gunned down. Braun seems to be making a LOT of outs on the bases lately (again). Hopefully K-Rod and Ax just shut this down and it won't matter.
  18. No one said the playoffs are in the bag. The Brewers losing 4 in a row (if they do) is not some kind of choke job either. Othewise, I'm not going to tell anyone when they should get worried or not. I will just sooth myself with the fact that the Brewers are still easily 10:1 favorites to win the Central.Given that we've won exactly one division title in 40 years of existence, I can fully understand why people are getting antsy here. Like I said, I'm not jumping off a ledge (yet), but I can understand why people aren't exactly thrilled with the events of the past 4 days now.
  19. I found myself in a conversation today with a co-worker about what I'd do about my baseball viewership if Yuni is renewed. I honestly don't think I can take another entire season of watching this guy play. I know, I know, the Yuni hating needs to stop, but this guy is without a doubt the worst starting ballplayer I've had to stomach in my 30+ years of watching ballgames.
  20. So for all the 'sky is falling stuff', there's also 'everything's going to be fine' talk. Well, back in 2008, on Sept 1, the Brewers had 93.5% playoff odds, then went on their terrible slide, and dropped to 13.4% playoff odds on Sept 20th, before rebounding, catching the Mets, and pulling it out on the very last day. In the last 8 years there are 3 teams that have had >> 90% playoff odds, who then missed the playoffs. I'm not jumping off the ledge, and I'm not saying a collapse is likely, or predictable, but I sure wish just as those saying 'we're screwed' need to relax, those on the other side of the fence shouldn't keep saying 'no worries' until that magic number is a bit closer to zero.
  21. You mean, a shortstop that can range up the middle and field a ground ball? That's what I was thinking too.
  22. I simply don't understand some of these arguments. Players get benched, they lose playing time, they get demoted. Young guys come up, they get spot starts, they get pinch hit at bats, so on and so forth. I don't ever remember hearing about some young buck like Green being given a start or 2 a week and such a happenstance tearing a clubhouse apart. If Roenicke is basically blackballing Green because "the guys" want a .640 OPS 3B hitting 5th and playing crappy defense, well, that can only be described as the old 'inmates running the asylum'. This kind of idiocy makes me long for the days of 'iron fisted' Ken Macha, who knew how to make a double switch, and didn't burn his entire bench in a 3 at bat span. I guess in 2009, when Casey McGehee got his shot mid-season, 'the guys' didn't stick up too much for Bill Hall?
  23. I think people need to realize.......when the Brewers haven't won a division title in almost 30 years, it's natural to expect people to get a little skittish when they start playing poorly, if even for only a few days. It's not like we're conditioned to EXPECT to win here. It'll most likely be just fine, but I'm not surprised that people aren't exactly thrilled about how they've played these last 3 days.
  24. Corey's been hitting a lot of bad balls really hard lately. It's amazing how Corey can be on a hot streak, have a few at bats where he looks completely and utterly lost at the plate, and then the very next at bat hit a shoe top slider 380 feet.
  25. Well, we're not getting shutdown by some rook in his starting debut at least............
