  1. So Buster Posey's injury only affects him when it comes to sports. Ok, I get it.The Giants whining about his injury affected me (if even only for a moment), and I'm an actual real person.
  2. Nah. Betancourt is probably the most polarizing figure here since Keith Ginter. There's nobody else on the roster who could generate even 1/5th amount of discussion as YuniB right now.
  3. I wish injury on Pujols all the time. For some reason it never comes true.
  4. I will not at all be upset tomorrow if the news is that Yuni's out for a while. I'm not wishing injury on anyone. And I know for a fact that I'm not a terrible human being.
  5. I don't mind bunting when done by crappy hitting pitchers. When a .300 hitter is bunting in the first inning (and popping out as well) it bothers me. When a crap hitting SS who can't bunt is trying to bunt, it bothers me. He was going to use Counsell there ANYWAYS (as a PR), why not have the guy who can actually handle a bat and bunt, bunt?
  6. I wouldn't say it's completely meaningless. I think a lot of folks are looking at a game like this and fearing that it could be a pre-cursor to how RR's decision making could affect the team in a 5 or 7 game series, when one game really does matter a whole heck of a lot. 9 1/2 game lead is for all intents and purposes right now, insurmountable. This game, in and of itself is a representation of how a lot of posters feel about Roenicke's in game strategy (which IMO is awful). Right now, it doesn't matter, but it will in the playoffs.
  7. Dear RR. Please stop bunting with position players, especially those who suck at it. Thanks.
  8. STOP............. BUNTING.......... I know there's little to whine about when we're 9 1/2 games up, but I've never seen a Brewers team so eager to give up free outs. My biggest fear is we'll see this idiocy in the playoffs when games will matter again.
  9. We don't all agree on this? The Cubs broadcast team said that he's 'always been known for having great range'. And they were serious about that. That aside, there are still posters that say 'he's not that bad'.
  10. Also, an odd note, when looking at recent playoffs and September races.......... The Yankees and Red Sox have made the playoffs in the same season 8 out of the 16 years since the wild card has been brought into existence, and this year will of course mark 9 of 17. So basically every other year, unless you're the Central or Western division champion, you have no chance of making the playoffs. Fun.
  11. There's no races left. There's 6 teams with a 90+% playoff odds, and 2 (Detroit and Texas) who are right around 80%. The only compelling race left is "who wins the AL East" and that's it. I know the wildcard was put in place to keep more teams involved into September, but this year Atlanta and NY/Boston have taken all the drama out of it.
  12. I have forced myself to come to grips with the fact that, barring injury, YuniB is the ss for the rest of the season, however long that may be. I've gnashed my teeth, shaken my fists, and howled at the moon, and none of it makes me feel any better about the situation. I have resigned myself to the fact that this is what will be, and for better or worse, I'm done stressing myself with it. I only hope (nay, pray) that 2012 opens with him in someone else's uniform. I can't take another season of watching this guy play ball. Can't.
  13. It's interesting to talk about what exactly constitutes 'most valuable', and I agree that it really boils down to 'best player'. Each guy's value is equal, regardless of who he's playing for. If a guy is a 7 WAR player, it doesn't matter who he's playing for or the constitution of the lineup around him, replace him with a replacement level player, and that team's going to win about 7 fewer games. Some recent questionable MVP's (and I'm not saying WAR is be all-end all, I'm using it as a quick and easy comparison number) 2007 NL Jimmie Rollins had a 6.1 WAR, 6 guys behind him had higher WAR, including Pujols, who had an 8.3 WAR, and finished 9th in the voting. 2002 AL MVP Miguel Tejada had a 5.1 WAR, runner up Alex Rodriguez had an 8.2 (and better numbers in every single offensive category, and it wasn't even really close). Tejada won his award based solely on the basis of the A's big winning streak late in the year. 1987 NL MVP Andre Dawson had a 2.7 WAR, meaning he was basically just above being average, by virtue of having a terrible OBP, and being a subpar defender by that point. Ozzie Smith had a 7.1 WAR, and was still an absolutely superior defender. This one, I know people love the HR's and RBI, but the voters flat out got this one wrong.
  14. I'd be shocked if Brauny slid down even to like a .960-ish OPS by the end of the year. It seems like he'll have streaks where he doesn't hit a lot of homeruns, but (and this could well be one of those pesky "perception" things, he seems to be a pretty consistent performer, and he avoids those month long 'cold snaps'. After I typed that, I went and looked it up, and to back it up, his lowest OPS by month this year was a .796 OPS in May. Unless he goes ice cold (which I just can't foresee, he's going to end up top 3 in hitting (if he doesn't win the crown outright), with close to 30 homeruns, over 100 RBI, 100 runs, 40 doubles, 35-40 steals, an OPS between .975 and 1.000......... That's not quite what I'd call *gaudy* numbers, but I'd definitely say that's an outstanding season all around.
  15. Seems strange that a guy who OPS'd below .800 in 2 of his last 3 minor league systems would have an MLE around .850. Still, even if he puts up a .750, he's an improvment over every single guy on the bench.
  16. What's Greens mqe, just out of curiosity, and where's a good place to find that info. I looked (but not very hard) on Fangraphs, and didn't find it.
  17. That's how I do it. I just got through Red Dead Redemption, and I'm working on Assassins Creed 2 now. I had just finished FFXIII as well. Now the online shooters I play, I get when they come out. I got Socom 4 a few weeks after release. I don't like to get too far behind the 8 ball on those.
  18. That was sadly predictable. And I really hope Hairston doesn't come back next year. I can't take another full season of listening to Uecker say "Harriston".
  19. I realize there shouldn't be much to complain about during a 24 - 4 run, but it sure seems like there's been an inordinately high number of times the Brewers have gotten a guy to 3rd with no outs, and failed to score. Corey has been absolutely teh suck in these situations latetly, either popping out weakly on the first pitch, or striking out.
  20. If you read the article, you'll see what even the author thinks about the rumor.. "Assuming Washington truly isn't going to go after Fielder (and I don't buy that), it dwindles Fielder's market even lower to the point one has to seriously consider if Fielder could head back to Milwaukee."
  21. I'm happy with having a .730 OPS catcher who hits .290, and doesn't look like a butcher behind the plate. Yeah, he only throws out 30%, but teams don't 'run wild' on him, and he's not awful. He could be better yes, but he's durable, and he can hit.
  22. Historically, yeah, these things happen, and they do happen, but the odds of them happening are pretty small. Right now the Brewers are over 95%, according to most methods of evaluation.
  23. Yeah, I turned the game off in the 4th to play Socom, then one of the guys I was gaming with said they were down 8 - 2, I was like "that's fine, i'll check the score in the morning, and they'll have come back and won it. To my surprise, shock, and abject horror, I was wrong. Downward spiral, here we come.
  24. Not that it matters, but Nyjer sure does strike out a lot for a low power/high average type of slap hitter.
