  1. Man, this strike zone is HUGE today. Gonna be tough against a knuckleballer when anything head high to 8" off the plate is a strike.
  2. C'mon Joe, you didn't know it was standard message board/blog post/news article etiquette/protocol to always come back and admit you're wrong when less than a half season worth of data doesn't back up your opinion? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  3. I must be on the outside looking in, wondering HOW this is going to be compelling cinema. I love baseball movies, but this, as someone else said (sorry for no quote) almost looks cringe worthy in a few spots, and that's just from a 2 minute trailer.
  4. That might not even be his worst start. He gave up 5 ER in 3.1 there, and opening day he gave up 6 ER in 4 IP. In 11 of his 15 starts, he's given up 2 or fewer runs, and only one of those, a 5.1 IP effort, was less than 6 IP.
  5. I'll start at C and adjust. Bullpen usage, including his unwillingness to use Braddock unless there's multiple lefties in a row, as well as his mad insistence on burning Kam Loe into the ground, this drops him to a D. Batting Carlos Gomez 2nd for a consistent portion of the season..drops to an F+ The players "like" him, that raises him to a D-. I can't see how that is anything more than a marginal and almost meaningless quality. The Brewers didn't lose under Macha because they didn't like him. They lost because they had awful pitching. I know some will say that you can't overlook the human element. I understand that. But I counter that most of the time, these guys when they get in the batters box aren't thinking about Macha, or Roenicke, or how much they like the manager. They're thinking about hitting. This handling of the Wolf/Lucroy fiasco.......that brings him to a D--.
  6. Just another game on the schedule. We're in first at the end of the day, regardless. For what it's worth, there's on writer on ESPN.com (and it's the main story on the MLB page) that says this is a world series preview. Again, for what it's worth.
  7. It may not have been Wolf's fault that Nieves was on the roster, but it was Wolf's fault that Roenicke was put in a position to use Lucroy in day games after night games if they didn't fall in line with Wolf pitching. It is Wolf's fault that catching playing time is getting dictated by him, and not the manager. You can put that partly on Roenicke for not having the nuts to just say "Lucroy is catching today, period". It's one thing for superstars to get pandered to. Wolf is not a superstar.
  8. That's kind of a broad generalization that's almost completely incorrect. Sleep disorders are a very real, and sometimes very serious HEALTH problem, not mental health problem.
  9. I can see how my post would look weird, without that context.
  10. Roenicke doesn't need a lefty specialist. He doesn't use the lefty we have now. Kazmir was good in 2008, bad in 2009, and downright awful last year. I'm not sure a reclamation project is where this team is at right now, as far as adding arms. If he wanted to go down to Nashville and try to turn it around? Sure.
  11. This should have been done when Lucroy got off the DL at the start of the season.
  12. Last night? There was only one out. Of course they would have had no real chance throwing Campana out anywayI said with 2 outs. There's no reason to play 5 IF'ers with 2 outs. I was respondging to the notion that you shouldn't play 5 IF with only one out.
  13. Kottaras also takes walks and hits for a decent amount of power. Nobodies going to do backflips about a .700 OPS, but it's worlds better than the .360 Nieves was sporting. Over only 175 at bats, that's a difference of 16 runs created, which is almost 2 wins. Teams fighting for the playoffs need to maximize their win potential, and they're doing that by getting rid of Nieves.
  14. Why would you use a 5 man infield with 2 outs? With 2 outs, you should always play your straight up defense for the batter.
  15. Well, you may be right about that. But that doesn't explain then, his utter fascination with 'defined roles' which is definitly more of a modern baseball creation (and a change for the worse, if I must say so).
  16. Macha was not at all a bad tactician. He optimized his lineup, he was creative with his bullpen, and seemed to understand the numbers. Too bad he had all the personality of a bucket of sand. Me, I'd take Macha ten times out of ten over Roenicke, who doesn't seem to understand some of the simplest nuances of managing a baseball team, which is mind boggling considering how long he's been in baseball.
  17. That is a bothersome fact, isn't it? Coupled with Wolf's insistence on not throwing a ball to Lucroy, there seems to be a fair amount of pandering, results be damned, going on in this club right now.
  18. This would be almost comical at this point, if we weren't in a position to contend this year. I mean, even people who were fans of the Roenicke hiring are saying stuff like "Even I can't defend this guy" at this point. I mean, 68 games, and even some (if not many) of his supporters are jumping ship. I'd like to know what he told Melvin in the interview process that made Doug think he was the right guy for the job. 38-30, and tied for first, but I'd still be willing to bet that there's no less than 4 games where Roenicke has Yost'ed the team this year.
  19. Even in a 2 hit game, Betencourt finds a way to sabotage the offense. Bases loaded, one out. Infield pop up on the 2nd pitch, which was low and away, and a pitch that nobody aside from Vlad Guerrero's going to hit with any authority. Absolutely clueless at the plate. I'ts mid-June now, there needs to be a SS solution on the horizon here.
  20. IF, as some are suggesting, that Hawkins may be hurt, put the guy on the DL, and get someone up here who can at least eat some innings.
  21. Can't complain too much about the lineup here. I know you shouldn't adjust your lineup based on the hot or cold hand, but honestly, Casey's been going through a long enough cold stretch that he should be moved out of the 5 spot until he turns it back around a bit.
  22. I don't actually disagree with any of this. And the 120 or so plate appearances that Nieves gets shouldn't be the difference between winning and losing (though it could be). It's just blatantly obvious that there's a problem here, as Lucroy is essentially no longer getting a day off. Obviously, my wording was a bit harsh and over the top, and I don't want Melvin fired (yet), or Wolf released. What's really grinding my gears on this one is that Roenicke KNOWS Nieves sucks, because he pinch hits for him as soon as Wolf is out of the game. They know there's a problem, and they're doing nothing. And when the guy has a .360 OPS, he's such an offensive black hole that the difference between him and a .700 OPS catcher in 120 at bats might be the difference between 89 and 90 wins.
  23. Don't like the idea of a one game knockout. 4 seed facing a 13 seed might have a #4 going, and the 13 seed might be positioned to have their ace going. Regular season record should count for something, and home field alone isn't it. One game (even a 3 or 5 game) series is too random to make up for that difference. 4 seed might have 95 wins, and the 13 seed could have 82 or so, and get lucky based on availability/matchups.
  24. The point is that if the backup catcher was even close to competent offensively, Lucroy wouldn't need to PH on his days off. Having Lucroy PH, and then catch 2-3 innings completely negates the benefit of having a 'day off', when you play a position that's as physically overbearing as catcher. I didn't say that this was the definitive cause of Lucroy's trouble's at the plate recently, I was only suggesting that it might be playing into it. Lucroy shouldn't have to catch everyday. AND. He shouldn't have to PH and catch the 7th - 9th on his days off. This isn't an either/or, it's both.
