  1. As we all very well know, performance doesn't always equal results. However, I do sometimes worry that a good performance leading to bad results ends up as being a self fulfilling prophecy, especially with a guy like Greinke.
  2. Melvin seems to be enamored with the wrong stats. I'm suspecting upgrading the 8th inning guy was Melvin's biggest area of need because Loe had 7 losses.
  3. That's if you can take Melvin at his word, which is pretty hard to do. His 'media speak' is always twisted and sometimes straight up false.
  4. And again, losing Braun was a major hit, and they survived that. Braun's one of the top hitters in the entire league, and they got by without him. If, in fact, Weeks is out for a month TOPS, there's no reason the Brewers should consider themselves out of the running with a very favorable schedule from here on out.
  5. That's a bit of a knee jerk, isn't it? Braun missed a dozen games, and the Crew maintained their positioning in the standings. Brauns offense is imminently more valuable than Weeks', and Braun was replaced by a .650 OPS corner outfielder for that time.
  6. Thanks a lot Brewerfan. I just got sick to my stomach reading this. There's a 24 yo guy mashing at AAA, and Eric Farris, who likely will hit about like McGehee at the big league level, and that's the one we call up. Which means that we almost certainly had to have moved one of our few remaining position prospects for 2+ months of a one inning reliever. Why?
  7. No work ethic? The guy has been jerked all over the place by this organization, yet continues to go out on a day to day basis and mash the ball, and play whatever position of the day they need him to play. I'd like know where the 'no work ethic' thing comes from.
  8. We'd have to get a lot of money for Rios for me to not vomit if this goes through. He sucked 2 years ago, was ok last year, and he's worse than Betencourt with the stick this year. He 100% sucks at this point, and is grossly overpaid. I'm not saying I like the deal either. Just that it doesn't mean we won't still get a SS/3B.I know, it's just the rumors about Beltran, now Rios.......I just don't get why Melvin's hell bent on getting an overpriced, over 30 outfielder, when there's other things he should be concentrating on. maybe he is, and we just aren't hearing about it......it's just that these rumors make little sense. We have 3 outfielders, all with OPS over .800, and all reasonably priced. I don't get the need to add a guy like Rios, even if he gets money. He's ridiculously overpaid, and he stinks. The guy is OPSing .550 this year.
  9. We'd have to get a lot of money for Rios for me to not vomit if this goes through. He sucked 2 years ago, was ok last year, and he's worse than Betencourt with the stick this year. He 100% sucks at this point, and is grossly overpaid.
  10. Wow. Mega-yuck. EDIT: I guess I should add on. I don't see why Doug's so hell-bent on getting another outfielder. SS and 3B are far more pressing than getting a righty platoon bat for CF. Even IF Morgan starts against lefties and stinks with the bat, he's still providing value with his plus defense. Betencourt and McGehee playing every day is still more of a detriment to this team than Morgan starting vs. lefties. Even Carroll has a redeeming quality in that he plays solid D. And yes, we COULD use a better righty platoon CFer, but it's not nearly as pressing as getting upgrades at SS and 3B. Alex Rios. Ugh.
  11. Hey Wisconsinites, question for ya. Recently, my cell phone bill went up (again), and I'm really getting raked over the coals. 2 lines. 750 minutes, 250 texts, and data, and we're paying $140 a month now. There's a Cricket pre-paid wireless like, 2 blocks from my house. Went in and checked it out. Per line, they charge $45 (about $51 with taxes and stuff) for unlimited talk, text, and browsing, and I don't really see any other catches here. Well, there's one. A few people I know casually have said that they experience a lot of call drops and such, even in areas that should have full coverage. Now, I have a chance to shave $40 bucks off of my phone bill, but if I can't get consistent service, I'm not all that interested. So I have 2-3 second hand stories from over a year ago that their service isn't the best. Anyone else use it? Any stories, good, bad or otherwise?
  12. This is exactly why players are never as good or as bad as people on here make them out to be. They use the same stats to bang on a player but decide the stats are no good when they don't support the argument. Yuni is nowhere near as bad as people say he is and Casey has struggled both with the bat and in the field, but is still somewhat serviceable. Not saying I would not take an upgrade for either but I would still make a trade for a lefty out of the bullpen first. I may get a warning or whatever for this, but good lordy, don't you ever get tired of standing on the pedestal and telling the rest of this community what we're doing wrong? I don't know if you're getting tired of doing it, but I can see from the comments that I'm not the only one getting tired of seeing it.
  13. Quite simply my post was about understanding sample size. What someone does over a month or two in baseball really means nothing at all, it is useless. The stats for a month or 2 may not matter (and I agree, for the most part), but it doesn't take a statistician to look at Counsell, look at his approach at the plate, his weak meager swings, and see that he's just not got it anymore. It's not the end of the world that he's on the team, but he sure as heck shouldn't be the 1st LH PHer off the bench either.
  14. I know this'll be a dissenting opinion, but the Galarraga play was worse. This is the main reason I think a catcher, whenever possible, should avoid 'swipe' tags. When you swipe, there's no visible change of direction of the catchers glove, or no stopping of the momentum of the glove like you'd see on a regular play. I watched this play at full speed, and from the umpires vantage point, it's hard to tell if contact was made, because the swipe goes clean through. Was he out? Yeah. Was it a blown call? Absolutely. But at game speed, on a swipe tag, that's not a 100% gimme call.
  15. I really, really hope that he's not being kept around becauuse of the CC bobblehead doll day. As much as I question some of Melvin's decisions this year, I simply CAN'T bring myself to believe that he'd keep a guy on the roster because of something so incredibly insignificant as a bobblehead day. But yah........as much as I groused early on about him not getting playing time, it looks pretty obvious that he's done out there. It'd be nice if he had the good grace to go into Melvin's office and say "Doug, I can't do it anymore".
  16. Amy Winhehouse? Too mainstream. Russ, you basically just described the musical leaning of most hipsters.
  17. Gomez's career splits are remarkably similar. He's almost dead even against righties and lefties. Not that that means anything GOOD, but Kotsay sucks no matter how you slice it, and he can't field either, and that one inning he did play lead to a run, which is a big deal in a one run game.
  18. Or, just maybe, Wolf could be a professional and get together with Lucroy and do his job. I'm not a huge fan of a manager making his lineup decisions based on the psyche of a #4 pitcher. Of course, Roenicke's also batting a career .330 OBP guy (.342 this year) leadoff, because he doesn't like to hit 5th. Again, great that the players 'like' Roenicke so much, but I don't see where that's showing up in the wins and losses.
  19. Except when it comes to Randy Wolf. I'd be curious to know how many times Wolf has faced another lefty pitcher since they recalled Kottaras, because it seems like every time. Splits be damned, Wolf refuses to throw to Lucroy. Now, granted, Kottaras' splits over his career are not extreme, but it's just the point that losing the platoon advantage for the sake of Randy Wolf's feelings just doesn't set well with me.
  20. Pinky and forefinger extended (as other's have said '2 outs'), even under the arm the way he did it is hardly 'obscene'. Was it meant to incite, and could it be construed as offensive? Possibly. Obscene? That's a HUGE stretch.
  21. I'm in a dead pool on another website, and had her in my list of 10. Can't help but feel a little dirty that I 'predicted' the death of a 27 year old, and it actually happened. It's hard to feel bad for the individuals that put themselves on these paths, but at the same time, it's certainly devastating for the family and friends. All you can do is wonder how a young life could have been saved here, if someone had stepped in more firmly or something. RIP certainly applies here, because it would seem peace is something that was certainly lacking in her life.
  22. Well, standing at 5-4, even losing the last 2 would bring us to a 5-6 road trip. Again, I feared that this trip could put them in a 3-4 game hole, but now absolute worst case scenario is the Brewers going home 1 game out of first. Now obviously you don't want to go home on a 2 game losing streak and lose the good momentum, but this road trip is probably at this point a big positive on the mental side for these guys. And again, I don't know if that makes a difference. Maybe it does. Maybe it's minor, maybe it's a big difference. I'm just happy to see that this tough looking 11 gamer didn't put them in the hole that I feared it could.
  23. In the 6th and 7th innings, Marcum gave up several hard hit, long fly ball outs. The only thing that saved him was the huge ballpark. I was honestly surprised he was brought out for the 7th. Pitch counts/good shape, whatever. We have what is supposed to be now a 'lights out' 8th and 9th inning combo. There's no reason to over-extend our starters for 8+ innings when you should expect K-Rod or Axford's 1st inning of work to be more effective than Marcum or Narveson's 8th inning of work.
  24. I remember thinking when Hart was a 20 stolen base guy and the 'fastest guy on the team' back 4-5 years ago that there was no way his speed was going to age well. Big, lanky guys like that, I suspect, aren't ever going to age well in the speed category.
