  1. Just listening on the radio, so I can't say WHERE the pitches were, but Hernandez was behind just about every hitter. That's no way to live. Can't start out 2-0 on a lineup like the Cards (or any major league lineup) and expect to get a whole lot of guys out.
  2. Nice start for Hernandez. Every strike he threw got hammered. Hey, Kinney got a quality start anyways.
  3. I agree Scoop. Helms has a nice arm, but that glove is not good. Not good.
  4. That was a close one. Nice work by Bennet in a tough spot.
  5. Yost brings the hook a little late I'd say.......
  6. Yurg.....that was ugly. Nice try by Pods, but I don't like seeing our guys going into the wall like that.
  7. We've played ONE game and our pen is being dubbed the '04 "nasty boys"? Jumping the gun a LITTLE???
  8. clancy, his curve looks like it's breaking really nice, he's just leaving it up, which he had a tendency to do last year as well. I really wonder if there IS something to the "lack of focus" talk we've been hearing about Mr. Sheets lately. Grooved one to the #8 hitter (Matheny) with a runner on 3rd, and left one hanging to the pitcher Morris that got crushed.
  9. Yeah, he has been throwing his changeup more, which is good, it's those meatball curves that he's leaving belt high over the middle that were bothering me though.
  10. Man, gotta start wondering what's up with Ben. Getting rocked his last 3 appearances. His stuff looks nasty, but he just hangs way too many curveballs right in the zone.
  11. I'm willing to bet that more than a few guys would simply rather not play for Indy/Milwaukee. The dollar difference in minor league deals is most likely VERY small, so a guy is probably more likely to go where he either, A) has a chance to play every day and get back to the bigs or B) play for a team with a realistic chance of winning. Do you REALLY think Cordero would take a minor league deal with Milwaukee when there's other more attractive alternatives??
  12. I don't think it's likely that Indy and the Brewers will re-up after the current contract expires anyhow. I don't see why they should go out of their way to make Indy "happy". The Brewers should be the # 1, # 2, AND # 3 priority, not keeping a minor league club appeased. As far as gelling.........please. Minor leaguers play on different teams every year with different players. It's not like these guys aren't used to new faces in the clubhouse on a constant basis.
  13. I agree with Al. There's no way Hart should be held back because Jeff freakin' Liefer needs a place to play. Now, I don't figure it will shake down that way, but stranger things have definately happened.
  14. Getting Cruz and Machado off the 40 man was luck, plain and simple. I'm sure Doug had some kind of gauge to know if someone was going to be interested or not, but it still boils down to luck.
  15. All 3 of these guys look like really solid signings. Like Al said I could see any one of them in Milwaukee next year. Magruder's my sleeper to make the roster. I could see him being a very servicable 5th OF. Sure , he hasn't done much in his 300 + big league at bats, but hey.
  16. He still hasn't got the power back at all, and I guess that's still a concern. I've read that it takes at least a solid year to come back 100 % from his type of injury, and that it may take a while for the power to come back.
  17. It's been said that it takes at least a solid year to come back from the type of injury that Nelson suffered. I'd be willing to bet that he won't be back to 100% until possibly the beginning of 2005.
  18. While Rushford would certainly be useful to fill Indy's roster, I don't think the term "prospect" really applies to him. I would have no problem with Conti in Milwaukee as the 5th OF/defensive replacement, but I don't want to see him get any more than 100/120 PA's. Lee and Coco also fit the "roster filler" tag, but they'd be ok to have around in Indy just to fill the rotation.
  19. The only youngsters I see getting a "real" shot would be Hardy, and possibly Martinez, though I'm sure most would like to see Martinez get at least another half season in AAA. Also, Hart may get an outside shot at 1st base when Sexson is traded, if we don't get someone back in a trade or FA to man that spot, though that's unlikely. Anyone else, I think would have to absolutely dominate in spring training and blow away the coaching staff to make the team. Weeks needs a ton of work on his D, Hendrickson needs more time, and Krynzel needs to be more consistent. His base stealing needs a lot of work also. 65% is not good enough to justify 70 attempts.
  20. The union doesn't remember what it agreed to, so it will stay the same". They didn't write it down on a Post-It or anything?? Huh.
  21. Franklin had an E.R.A. of 5.34 with a 1.5 whip, all while leading the NL in homers allowed. I'd surmise that the Brewers winning record in his starts has FAR more to do with run support than Franklins' stellar pitching. If we're assuming Doug Davis is going to be part of the rotation, I see no reason to have 2 soft tossing lefties. Anyhow, Obermueller has now had 8 quality starts in 11 tries, so I'd at the very least give him a shot at the rotation next year, if no better options present themselves.
  22. Holy wow. The entire crowd let out a collective "whoa" when Richie hit that massive, MASSIVE bomb. 45 by the way, which everyone knows of course.
  23. JENKINS RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. In their absolute HEYDEY's guys like Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, and now Bonds, Sosa and AROD, have been 8 to 10 wins above league average for their position in one season. By Clancy's math, that makes Jenkins TWICE the player ANY of those guys were. Of course, that ought to make Scoop happy, despite the fact that Jenkins isn't even the Brewers best hitter this year, (Kieshcnik!!!!!) He's good for 3 more wins EVERY 2 WEEKS, than if they didn't have him in the lineup. WOW.
  25. Wow, up one in the first. Better score a lot.
