  1. I'd look for Vandy and Clark in the corner outfield spots for the time being, and either Zocco or Rushford being called up to take the 4th outfielder spot from Clark. That's not too say that Ginter won't, or shouldn't, see any time out there, it's just that his future is obviously at 2nd, and that's where he should see the majority of his time. I don't want to see 3 or so guys playing out of position (maybe getting hurt) for the sake of winning 2 or 3 more games this year. Clancy may be optimistic that we can win the division, but let's see, 12.5 out, 29 games to go. That means if the Astros even go say, 10 and 20, we'd have to go 23 and 7. I'm as optimistic as the next guy, but the Astros, Cardinals, AND Cubs would ALL have to go completely in the tank.

  3. The Brewers have an outside chance to win the division the way East Germans had a chance of getting over the Berlin Wall in 1984. 13 out with a month to go? I believe in miracles, but I'm not about to sell my soul.
  4. This is just flat out insane. 9 in a row. Y'know, I don't like several things about the way Nedly manages the team, but, one thing he can't possibly be criticized for is his ability to keep the guys going. The enthusiasm is great, and hey, it gives us brewers fans a chance to be excited at the tail end of August, even in a lost season.
  5. Actually, Diskono, he WAS that bad. Toronto: 54 IP 70 hits 26 BB 25 K's 5.00 E.R.A. Career E.R.A. of 5.02 in 422 IP Career WHIP of 1.7 Career K/BB of 1.33. That's just plain bad. The E.R.A. I guess isn't THAT bad, but still......
  6. Clancy While I hope Davis keeps pitching well, obviously, I think 19 innings is too small a sample to guess how he'll perform in the future. I WILL advocate giving him a legit shot at the rotation next year, barring a meltdown this september.
  7. Ok, Doug Davis has allowed only 3 earned runs in 19 + innings as a Brewer. What about the 5.02 E.R.A. in the 400 + innings he's pitched in the majors before this 3 game stretch? Clancy, you're jumping the gun here man. We're ALL excited about how the Brewers are playing, to be sure, but proclaiming this pre 03' Glendon Rusch clone our # 2 starter???
  8. See, Pogo, I'm just plain lazy and once I start typing, that's it. At least I didn't give credit of your quote to someone else! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  9. I'm with Al on this one. I don't mind Clark or Conti, but together on the bench.......ehhh... I can't remember who, but someone said your 4th OF should be a guy who you wouldn't mind if he got 350 AB's, and that's right on. Let's say, for example, best case scenario, your 3 starters each only miss 20 games, which is realistic, that's 240 + at bats right there, providing the 4th OF plays all 3 spots. It needs to be a guy who you can plug in and not lose too much production from your starters. Clark and Conti ain't that guy. They're both more 5th OF/PH type guys, and they fill that role ok.
  10. Clancy, I know you've suggested it before, and I'll shoot the idea down again, just for kicks. The whole idea is to maximize each players abilities. As was already stated, Ginter would be an ABOVE AVERAGE 2nd baseman, offensively, whereas in left he would probably rank around the bottom 3rd in the league. What's the fascination with playing everyone out of position? And besides, as someone stated, Hardy is not playing in Milwaukee next year, so the point is moot. Unless they re-up EY (and if they do.....) Ginter will be the starting 2b.
  11. Ok, I was a little on the short side. Add those 2 from tonight though, and I gets me 2 shiny new quarters! (and thanks for digging for stats that I'm too lazy to)
  12. I understand that grounding into a double play is more a product of circumstance than anything else, but I'd think that if I had a nickel for every time Sexson's done it this season, (well, I'd probably have about 75 cents), but, the point is made, I guess. Anyone think Jenks should have tried to expand his strike zone just a little there in the 8th? None of those pitches were really hittable, I suppose, but as Jenks came up, I was thinking, "here we go, Jenkins walks and even money says Sexson hits into a 6-4-3."
  13. Thanks Kat, although I did know that he'd be on the 40 right away. Let's hope he's worth it.....
  14. OK, now, sifting through everything here, I'm trying to figure out exactly what the ML contract means here. Anyone care to explain? Does it affect arby time or free agency at all? I should know this, but I don't, and I'm too lazy to look, and I'm sure someone here knows anyhow.
  15. Regardless of the W/L for the rest of the year, hopefully Wes can keep going out and give the Crew 6 decent innings and stablize the rotation a little bit.
  16. All I can say is wow. Being at the Snappers game and having Ulice show up was cool as heck. I was sitting with my wife and friend in the box seats, paying attention to this guy with a radar and a note pad, not knowing we were sitting directly next to Jack Z. Parra looked good tonight, but threw a lot of pitches. Tony Gwynn had a nice game, despite not getting a hit, he drew a walk, drove in a run, stole a base, and made 2 really nice plays in center field.
  17. I know we're building and looking to the future, but winning games like this one, that SHOULD have been won, is still important. Letting a guy like DeJean run out there and blow it for the purpose of "showcasing" him is NOT a valid reason for losing it. Hey, these guys we're talking about trading (DeJean, EY, VanDerWal) don't NEED to be showcased. They're all long time vets. Anyone that might think of trading for them already know what they're getting and what these guys are capable of.
  18. Wow!! That was sweet, now put it away, sweep the Pirates!
  19. Always being able to eat my own words, I can't believe that 3 weeks ago I was AGAINST trading DeJean because, as I pointed out, I didn't like the closer situation without him out there. When you're wrong, you're wrong, and now we won't get SQUAT for him.
  20. I'm going to be ill........ Why oh why does Yost keep trotting this rummy out there?????
  21. By any means necessary I guess. Hope Helms is ok, but if they hold on that would be big. C'mon DeJean......
  22. SWEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!! that's all...... thanks EY!!!!
  23. Say what you will about Sosa, (it's true, most likely) but that HR was absolutely monstrous. I don't really blame Viz for going at him down 4 with no one on base, but lordy, go after him, don't throw it thigh high down the middle at 89 mph.
