    At some point, at SOME point, the school and the fan base have to get over the whole idea that we're a running team, we're running back U, and we MUST run the ball all the time. It's fine and good to be run orientated, and be able to run the ball, and grind out yards, and be able to get guys like Melvin Gordon and J. Taylor and the like, but we absolutely can't get guys to come play QB here, we can't get WR commits, because why would they? We throw the ball 20 - 25 times a game, and those type of players will never get a chance to showcase their skills in this system. The whole idea that we have to run 45-50 times a game because "that's the way we've always done it" is stodgy, old, and honestly, holding the program back. Yep, we got a 4* recruit QB, and he looks like he just might suck. He has nobody to throw to except a big TE, that he can't ever seem to find. The WR corps sucks, there's not a SINGLE guy in the group who can run clean routes or get separation, and certainly nobody who's going to burn someone deep. Mertz needs to get better, but he needs help. Our O-line couldn't pass block a group of 8th graders, because WE ARE A RUNNING TEAM DADGUMMIT!!! I am by no means saying lets just run 5 wide sets and abandon everything that got them here, but we need a coach who has at least an inkling of creativity, and it sure looked like PC was gonna be that guy. One might say he's hamstrung by the lack of talent on the roster, but if that's the case, who's fault is that? These are his guys by now, so where's the talent?

    So now that Scherzer is a candidate the innings pitched thing doesn't matter any more? I have honestly never been in the IP doesn't matter camp. I personally feel (don't even "feel", the stats bear out) that Burnes deserves the W. I said the *narrative* will bear out that Scherzer is going to win. He's a bigger name, playing in LA, and he's been utterly ridiculous in the 2nd half. Those are what voters look at. Not fip, xfip, and those sorts of things. I said before, ERA is what happened. Fip, while a super useful predictive tool that helps you evaluate how a player performed and will possibly perform going forward, isn't a stat that tells you results. I don't know how much CY voters are going to lean into something like that. My belief, and I'm not saying (can't be more clear) is that Scherzer will win, though I think Burnes deserves it. Scherzer isn't an underserving winner. Just think Burnes has had a better season.

    On August 10th they were 67 - 49. Season high 18 games over .500. SInce then they have pooped their pants to the tune of an 11 - 27 record, and now have to win 3 games still in the last week just to finish .500 for the season. 2 against ATL, 3 against LA, and 3 against SF, and there's a real chance they don't make it to .500. What a fall.

    I would rather go through the Braves, then the Dodgers, then the Rays. Man, that would be a seriously legit World Series title.

    Scherzer has made a very legit case. If you disagree, that's cool.

    I think the predominant narrative at this point is Scherzer is #1 and Burnes is #2. I don't see any way it shakes out some other way. We're gonna have the division wrapped by Burnes next start, so there's no reason for him to throw more than 4-5 innings, other than to make sure we don't burn the bullpen, but even then, pretty big gap between end of season and the playoffs. I just don't see anything he can do to bridge the (perceived) gap at this point.

    This is where I'm at. Keeping the score off the scoreboard is just creating extra and unnecessary drama.

    a one week mini slump isn't indicative of the talent level of the team. one might say " you have to wonder how our offense will produce runs against the Brewers pitching in the postseason."

    mertz had Davis wide open on the sideline and puts it over the wrong shoulder and makes him toe tap just to complete an easy, very open, 7 yard out.

    Unfortunately this isn’t the nfl where there is playoffs. Another loss and it’s almost like why even play the games? because people like college football

    calling this offense "bad" would be generous. this is simply hard to watch.

    Yeah, we won that trade. I have waited a long while before evaluating this one. I always liked the makeup of Urias, while acknowledging that he very well may not work out. He's working out just fine atm.

    They might have to try and flip an arm for an RBI bat in the offseason. I like the depth though, losing just one of those guys to injury puts us in a position of need at pitching again. I hope they keep all 6 of them, and go a different route for a bat. Anderson has to be gone for good. Yup. Pitching depth is so key. Don't go trading it away just because you think you have enough. Find offense somewhere else.
