  1. 2007 Rockies 2006 Tigers 2003 Cubs
  2. I'd send Lawrie to Brevard County to start 2010. He did OK in Appleton and finished strong towards the end of his stint there. But he really never dominated at all. I do have to remember how young he is because he does look so mature out there. And he didn't do anything in his short stint in Huntsville. If he rakes immediately, or Weeks struggles/gets hurt again, then I'd put Brett on a faster track. But until then I'd prefer to keep the development slow but steady with Lawrie and stick him in A+. Kemp deserves a promotion to A+ as does probably Kjeldgaard who finished really strong. I'd keep Komatsu in Appleton because he never had the chance to do anything due to injury. I'd also like to Arnett start there as well.
  3. One thing you have to remember is the way we acquired Sabathia. If baseball were how you want it to be, then we never would have been able to trade for Sabathia for the pennant race because Sabathia would still be pitching in Cleveland. The system works both ways in helping us and hurting us. And honestly I really can't think of any studs we've had in the past ten years or so that we had to trade away due to pending free agency. Maybe I'm just having a brain fart.
  4. There's not much you can do with the early albums. I mean they were probably recorded for $500 anyway. But I think I always thought Let It Be and Tim sounded crappy (production wise). That's why Pleased To Meet Me is my favorite. The drums sound so much better than on Tim. The remasters are definite improvements over the previous CD mixes, but I just wish that Tommy Ramone knew what he was doing when turning the knobs on Tim.
  5. I prefer to have both CD and vinyl copies of the essentials. I listen to vinyl at home and put the CDs on my iPod. I'm against downloading music even if I pay for it. I need packaging. And usually you'll get bonus tracks on a CD that you can't get on vinyl. I'm buying very few CDs these days but they do have their use. I'll always still have the music despite whatever happens to my iPod. And they're nice to have if I'm driving a car without an iPod hookup. And they sound better than a 40 year old record that was bought at Goodwill. Speaking of obsessive collecting, I have a Lawrie bobble for you Corey if you want it. PM, or facebook me.
  6. It's 9/9/09 and all the Beatles albums have finally been remastered. Is anyone besides me excited? I'm picking up the mono box as soon as I can get out of work today. All I have known are the terrible 1987 CD mixes and am pumped to finally hear one of my favorite artists they way they were meant to be heard. I've been hearing rumors that the remastered catalogue will be released on vinyl within the year as well. It'll be nice to get some fresh wax to play instead of 40+ year old vinyl that I'm afraid to put on the turntable.
  7. My only thought is maybe management is trying to pad Casey's stats to increase his value come trade time. If this is not so, and Casey is not traded, consider me very frustrated in Ken Macha.
  8. I'm pretty sure that JJ is plenty capable of having three errors in the same time period. And I am not saying that he's bad at fielding at all. JJ is really good at SS. Escobar just seems better with more range. Add to the fact that he's capable of matching if not beating JJ's 2009 numbers with the bat, can actually run faster than Prince Fielder, and makes 4 million less; I can't see how we can go back to JJ.
  9. I don't think anyone is using cold weather as an excuse. The fact of the matter is that the majority of baseball players come from California, Florida, Texas, etc. In many peoples eyes, Milwaukee and pretty much any other midwestern city outside of Chicago is a crummy place to live for 6/7 months a year compared to the bigger metro areas. There will always be a number of free agents out there who won't sign with these teams no matter how much cash you throw on the table.
  10. Palm trees probably help too.
  11. If Weeks struggles next year I will blame Melvin for drafting Lawrie and putting him at 2B. Poor Rickie the adult professional baseball player won't be able to focus on his job at all because of the accumulating pressure that his boss put on him by drafting another person who has the potential to take his job. What Melvin should have done was to sign Royce Clayton and Delino DeShields to minor league deals so Rickie would have the confidence that he was never in danger of being replaced. Because personal feelings should always outweigh improving the ballclub.
  12. Dodgers also made a deal for Jon Garland. I'll post the link later if no one else gets around to it.
  13. Could be the alternator dude.
  14. I seem to remember Dana Eveland having great potential as well. The fact of the matter is that it's such a crapshoot as to how these prospects will perform. Assuming Melvin did trade Escobar/Gamel/whatever for some top pitching prospects like Bucholz. He could flame out just as easily. And here we will be whining about how Melvin got fleeced in the deal. Just because Jackson is lights out in Detroit doesn't mean that any GM can pull off the same deal with equal success. The fact of the matter is that Detroit just got lucky as easily as they could have gotten screwed. Melvin is doing what he can with the resources we have. We have a medium sized payroll, but we have to pretty much overpay for any FA because Milwaukee is not seen as a top destination. Maybe Doug can somehow move the city of Milwaukee to the west coast where the FAs want to be. He's also drafted many pitchers in the early rounds of the draft. Many have been injured/suspended. His fault? And what team would trade away a starting pitcher that was already a legit & cheap #1-2? The only aces that can be had for trade are gonna be rentals. That's how it is. All you can really do is build from within and take some gambles in the trade market and hope you get lucky like Detroit did this year.
  15. I don't think Melvin is to blame for the injuries Rogers and Jones have suffered. I don't think it was him packing Jeffress' bong either. It's not like we haven't been drafting any pitching. These dudes were all round 1 picks and should be contributing to the organization by now.
  16. You gotta remember that Hoffman is well in his 40s now. You gotta know he has been thinking about retirement. I'm not saying he will, but I can think of many high-character athletes who have retired while still at the top of their game. If he does, we won't get any draft picks no matter if he's a type A or B. If we can get a decent return in a trade, I say you make it. I just think that will be the safest gamble. We can always sign him back if he really wants to come back.
  17. Yahoo Link Looks like the Phillies might be kicking the tires on Hoffman. They sure could use him. Lidge blew another save and his ERA is over 7.
  18. Your wife doesn't browse the Craigslist Casual Encounters, does she?
  19. What is the status on Capuano? From what I remember, I don't think we have him under contract next year. Seeing that he's finally making some rehab appearances, it seems like there is a chance he could be ready for next year. I wonder if anyone will take a flier on him if he's a free agent. I'd love for him to come back on a minor league deal and see if he can earn his way back into the rotation. I'm not saying he's an answer to the WOAH'S of our rotation, but he'd be a nice wildcard to have and help the depth of the rotation when injuries happen.
  20. I really would not mind trading McGehee if it brought anything of value back. If Melvin can't find a good deal for him, I would not mind having him back either. What I do not want to happen is to see Melvin sign him long term. There is probably a reason we picked Casey off the scrap heap. I'm just picturing Wes Helms pt. II if we end up signing him to a deal. It won't cripple the franchise by any means, but it will be our luck that he won't earn the money we pay him. I agree he'd make a good super sub playing behind Gamel & Weeks, and just filling in if either underperform or are injured.
  21. How could we have possibly maximized Hall's trade value when he has not been able to hit a baseball for three years now? I don't think a few weeks of raking in AAA is gonna do it.
  22. If this is true, it makes me wonder why. He's gone by September 1st to do that Baseball World Cup or whatever it is. Just from an observation point, I really wasn't impressed with Lawrie most of this year. He was never ever terrible, but he never really did anything above and beyond to deserve a promotion. And from what I have heard, he has rubbed teammates and coaches the wrong way a bit. However it really seems that he is starting to come around the past couple weeks. He should start the year in Brevard County next year for sure if not Huntsville.
  23. Link Looks like you're right. Glad I went to the game last night to see him one last time. Also, infielder Mike Brownstein from Helena to Wisconsin to backfill Brett Lawrie's promotion. Edit: Linked to specific post
  24. I think one big thing that is being overlooked a bit in this entire situation is that Hardy will have to earn his way back to Milwaukee. What if Hardy pulls a Gamel and just tanks it for a couple weeks batting .180? How on earth could we justify promoting him back up within the 20 days if this happens. If I'm Melvin, I tell JJ that you have to earn your way back on the roster. He should be firm in making the decision too. If JJ figures it out and gets that BA up, promote him. If he continues to ride the Mendoza line, leave him down.
