    Personally I like Counsell. Do I think he should be starting every day? Well no, but for whatever reason he currently is right now. Probably just a temporary thing. I don't think it's that big of a deal thou. I'll root for whomever is in a Brewer uniform these days. At least we can get back to Brewer baseball and not have to listen to any more Favre garbage for these three hours. I can't take anymore Packer crap. If they talk about him at all on the radio or TV tonight during the Brewer game, I believe I will throw up. Which would suck, because I have a nice piece of trout waiting for dinner tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Football season doesn't start for me, 'till the last Brewers out of the season!!! (Which hopefully won't come 'till late October.) GO CREW!!! Heck...GO ANYTHING non-Packers/Favre!!!

    "That is an up surd comment." crosses the condescension line. Again as a former firstbaseman, I take offense to the original comment. I could argue it was condescending to us firstbasemen. Heck, I could say, "anyone" can play "any" position. But can they play it well enough to help the team, or are they hurting the team being there. There are a lot of little things a good firstbaseman does to help out his team, that don't show up in any stats or can't be calculated. Besides just having a good stretch, you also have to know when to stretch for the ball. You stretch too soon and you're probably going to be out of position to catch the ball. I think simple piece of mind helps a ton as well. The other infielders knowing all they have to do is get the ball over there somewhere (within reason) and their firstbaseman is going to catch everything no matter where it is.

    I actually might go out an buy an Aaron Rodgers jersey. From what I've been reading (idiots booing him at practice) seems like the guy could use some support right now. That's all I'll say here about the Packer-Favre soap opera. Glad the Brewers are back today!!!!

    Also being a former firstbaseman, I eco jwill535's comments. A good firstbaseman, can eliminate potential base hits with a good stretch, and eliminate errors by other fielders with a good scoop. Plus a good scoop can help ease a fielders mind, knowing they don't have to make a perfect throw every time. So if they do need to hurry their throw, they're probably still going to get the out, even if they throw one in the dirt. I always told my infield, just get it in my general direction and I'll take care of the rest. Prince is well below what I would consider "average". If I were grading him in APBA baseball, I'd give him a 2, maybe a borderline 3. Any other excellent 1B defenders present or past anyone can think of? Keith Hernandez, Don Mattingly, and I would even say Cecil Cooper. Albert Pujols has worked very hard at his defense and has turned himself into one of the best in the game today. Those are just a few that come to mind.

    I don't care either way. The Brewers just have to take care of their own business and they'll be in the playoffs.

    Well they weren't scoring runs with Branyan or Hall at 3b, why not try something different for a few games. That's all I'm saying.

    Although batting him 2nd just because he's playing short defies logic. Take a look at who is playing today. Who else would you have bat second? I thought a #2 hitter was supposed to be someone who can handle the bat well, a guy who will lay down a bunt, and who knows how to play situational baseball.

    Counsell: Maybe they just wanted someone in the lineup that has a little plate discipline, and who's not going to strike out a lot for a change. It's only been a few games anyway, give it a rest guys. If he continues to start every day going into next week, then maybe it's time to start asking what's going on.

    Again, I couldn't care less what a guy does after a home run. Moon walk around the bases for all I care. Just keep hitting them. I can't believe this thread has received 260 posts.

    Nope, you're not the only one. I rarely put much stock into what a manager/coach says to the media. If I had to sit there every day answering basically the same stupid questions for 180 to 200 days, after putting in a full day's work, I'd probably seem annoyed all the time as well.

    As a reminder, today's game is on FOX. Figures this would be one of the few Saturday's they play a day game during a FOX telecast. I'm sitting here in Philadelphia. They've got the Yankees on, and I can't get it on Extra innings. Maybe I'll have to drive around for a few hours and listen to it in the car. My rental has XM radio.

    Yes! Another "Sunny in Philly" fan. I think my favorite is when they try out for the Eagles, and Charlie and Frank tailgate the tryouts. "I'm gonna trip balls!! Woodstock baby!!" No, not going to Lollapalooza. But, anyone going to see Beck with MGMT, October 2nd or 3rd, at the Aragon? I really want to see that show.
