  1. perez is a utility infielder. If he appears on the mound more than 3 times this season, something is wrong. You see Albers getting lit up like the proverbial Christmas tree?
  2. CC prob thinks he needs the work Yeah, but when does Hernan Perez, the 14th pitcher on the team, get some work?
  3. Now, if they just put Thames at first, Moose at second, Aguilar at third, and have Perez finish this... most of the pen aside from Anderson will be rested for Saturday/Sunday...
  4. This just keeps getting better and better Saturday and Sunday still to go in a three-game set... Get the sweep, send a message. Then, it's the Dodgers... and time for payback.
  5. I'd argue LaPorta did make an impact in Milwaukee - as the centerpiece of the CC Sabathia trade. That 2008 playoff appearance did matter.
  6. How about Scott Sunitsch? No walks, five whiffs... 2018 doesn't look like a fluke...
  7. Right now, denying Kimbrel to the Dodgers or Cubs is reason 1B to sign him, IMO. Reason 1A is that Kimbrel/Jeffress are an improvement over Albers/Barnes. But both reasons matter.
  8. Sunitsch I’m interested to see how he does. I’m not overly high on him. His results last year were not all that impressive. Low K, command was okay. FIP was 4.8 in Helena & still only 3.6 in small sample at Wisconsin. 17%K & 9% BB in Helena 15% K & 6% BB in Wisconsin He’s a low slot lefty who pitches about 90 but has ability to hit spots & work up in zone limiting hard contact. Ashby I think fits in with Woodruff, Peralta, Burnes. He has good power & just flithy. Woodruff, Burnes, Peralta all had high K rates & dominated hitters. Sunitsch & Roegnar are command pitchers. Soft tossers, some deceptions, and smart. Think it’s more fair to say they are much closer to Suter & Davies. Not a bad thing. They are effective but not the dominate type arms the 3 in are rotation are. I think you always have to look at pitchers styles & skill sets when projecting them. Many ways to be effective pitcher & get outs in bigs. Roegner & Sunitsch will do it more in the crafty way Davies Suter do. Not the wow the hitters & fans with power and/or filth stuff. I think that a good pitching staff/starting rotation needs both the "stuff" guys and the "guile" guys. I'm interested in the numbers... and the numbers so far suggest that Ashby/Roegner/Sunitsch could be a trio of good pitchers like Woodruff/Peralta/Burnes.
  9. Flashed higher K/9 totals in AAA the last two years. Maybe the Brewers think they can tweak something and get a good reliever.
  10. This is my thought as well. If/when Nelson is going well (first week of May?), send each young one down for ~2 weeks at a time to sort of rotate the three of them in two spots through the all start break pending no one gets hurt or struggles enough to need a demotion. This will help keep their innings low enough to be usable in September/October. Then come mid July, re-assess Nelson progress and maybe give him some time off if needed and then start up the 6 man rotation with rotating AAA/DL as needed to get to September. Now, injuries will probably break this plan, but it seems like an ideal best case scenario option right now. I'm not so sure it's as much innings as pitches thrown. If Peralta is going eight innings on 100 pitches... that's not really worrisome. Heck, let's see more of that. It's an art, and we have to trust Craig Counsell and company on that.
  11. Agree^^ Counsell worth several wins Team Chemistry and resiliency several more Front office some more That’s why Vegas fangraphs prospectus and others constantly under project win totals for this team. It's not just having talent, it's making the talent work. Scouts and sabremetrics only reveal so much. Brent Suter was someone few here thought could emerge as a starter, but he did and was solid until he needed Tommy John surgery. Jed Bradley, OTOH, was seen as a rock in the rotation, and now is laboring to come back in the Atlantic League. How many people thought Troy Stokes would emerge to be the type of hitter he has become? Few. At the same time, Victor Roache was a bust. How you use a player matters, too.
  12. 6-3 forceout to end the game. That ninth was a little more exciting than I'd have liked it to be.
  13. This would be the complete opposite of selling a player high. He's still not that far removed from a monster post-season. If he has a very long slump... Right now, it's a relative high. The good news: Freddy Peralta has saved the bullpen today.
  14. You would have think that getting demoted to AAA would have gotten the message through to him. It's mind-boggling to me that a 24 year old who had a .576 OPS last year and is rosterable on an MLB team only because of his defense would risk his entire way of life by not hustling. Someday he might get sent down to AAA and never make it back up. What he has could be taken away at any time and he doesn't seem to get it. Yeah... it may be time to sell Arcia high.
  15. I like Hummel as a possible Mickey Tettleton type - like Tettleton, a switch hitter playing C/OF/1B. Did Hummel catch last year? At all? 8 games, 7 starts. Total is 80 games, 76 starts from 2016-2018.
  16. I like Hummel as a possible Mickey Tettleton type - like Tettleton, a switch hitter playing C/OF/1B.
  17. 2 run lead in the 8th as well, plus Hader did pitch yesterday and as others have pointed out there isn't anyone else behind him I'd feel better closing out the game. On full rest maybe this is the type of game you give hader the last 6 outs - but the brewers need other pen arms to take larger roles until JJ hopefully gets back into the fold. That is the case... either that, or pony up for Kimbrel.
  18. Personally, I would not object to having the long-term deferred money. I think MLBPA should fight to make sure that the team ensures that the money is going to be there (maybe through insurance, etc.) - but thinking of Hack Wilson (the single-season RBI leader) and how he died penniless, and other athletes who lose the fortunes they had from big contracts... deferred money could be a lifesaver.
  19. I think that Roegner/Sunitsch/Ashby will be the lefties comparable to the Woodruff/Peralta/Burnes trio currently on the MLB roster.
