  1. Same here. Schoop will do better, I think. He had 30 homers in 2017. Furthermore, he buys time for Hiura to get 100% in shape. I have no problem using Schoop for the first three months. If he slumps, DFA and bring in Hiura. He does make for a good righty bat, and he is an option at short if Arcia is atrocious with the bat again.
  2. 1. Barnes has some good stuff, and comes a lot cheaper than Soria. 2. The idea of multiple relief aces is to not only protect leads, but to keep a game close. Imagine having the depth to keep another team's lead at one run, as opposed to letting them put on more. 3. I think the current roster can build a pen with multiple relief aces. That was the biggest problem - the Crew only had one Hader. Now, Hader is still unique as a lefty, but Woodruff and Peralta in the pen WITH Hader... now you can put someone good in, and keep a game close so the bats can win it.
  3. The bullpen this year has been awesome. One of the reasons the Crew is now in the playoffs. Next year, I could see it being even better. Imagine this: Barnes-Knebel-Jeffress for 7-8-9. Hader, Woodruff, and Peralta as relief aces - able to go 2 dominant innings Cedeno as the LOOGY Guerra as the long man/swing. Is it possible to create such a super-pen, and still have a very good rotation?
  4. I'm just hoping to re-sign Miley and Gio. Maybe go for Kikuchi in place of Miley/Gio. Between Davies, Anderson, Burnes, Woodruff, Chacin, two of Miley/Gio/Kikuchi, Peralta, Guerra, and Nelson there is a good set-up. In the future, you have Suter (returning from TJ), Roegner, Brown, Supak, and Derby. The only big FA splash I want to see is Kikuchi in place of Miley or Gio.
  5. I think the WP earlier in the inning got to Ottovino. A wild pitch with Yelich on third is game over, Rockies lose. Instead, force Moustakas to get the hit.
  6. For me, it wasn't a close call to put Santana on the roster - I like having that third center fielder (OK, he's not the best defensively, but he's still an option). Davies has been hurt and of dubious effectiveness this year.
  7. The bill is coming due for their big contracts - they will have to rebuild their farm system at some point. Maybe they get Harper/Machado, but they will see other losses. Furthermore, their farm system is going to be a hot mess for a few years.
  8. This is exactly my roster as well. I would love to find a way to get Broxton on there... but I think the extra arm is needed. Hard part is leaving Barnes off. It was close between him and Soria.
  9. c: Pina, Kratz IF: Aguilar, Schoop, Shaw, Moustakas, Arcia, Perez OF: Yelich, Braun, Cain, Granderson, Santana SP: Miley, Gonzalez, Chacin, Peralta RP: Jeffress, Knebel, Hader, Soria, Cedeno, Burnes, Woodruff, Guerra
  10. I'm glad to see Arcia doing better at the plate. I will not lie, I have had concerns about his offense since he regressed at Colorado Springs, and honestly think that his defense is overvalued by many here. I think he is the type of trade chip the Crew should have sold "high" on last off-season. If he has a synamite post-season, maybe they can still get a good return for him. Honestly, I was excited to get Schoop, I think he could be a better offensive option at short. But I am all for Arcia making that choice as hard as possible - it's good for the Brewers.
  11. Indeed, it was. It took Dean Taylor to start the very long turnaround process. Bob Melvin then got the team to the point where they could boom-or-bust contend, but I think the game was passing him by to a degree. Stearns, I think is starting the process of making the Brewers a solid team. Certainly he has shown an eye for talent.
  12. That. For me, I never blamed Molitor for not signing after `92. I blamed Bando. It was his job to keep a star like that - to find a way. And Molitor's last six years would have been worth every penny. For me, it would have been like seeing Walter Payton play three years with two other NFL teams...
  13. I think he was no worse than Counsell was in 2017. Maybe Counsell had more underlying talent or a more astute GM. but the in-game moves were Molitor's. I'd like to see him come to Milwaukee as a bench coach/hitting coach. 25+ years is too long. Stearns can make right what Bando did wrong.
  14. Cain isn't quite 2nd tier... he had roughly the same WAR as Yelich. I'd put it top 10.
  15. I'll say it - in terms of storyline, in terms of the statistical categories... in addition to the numbers, I'm going with Yelich `18 as the single best season a Brewer has had offensively. Yount's `82 comes close, but Yelich was close to a Triple Crown. A couple RBIs, maybe some teams/pitchers have guts to pitch to him instead of the intentional walk BS - there was once a Facebook Group called "Real Men Kick to Devin Hester" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/5963294799/) to honor the punters and place-kickers who had the guts to kick to the NFL's greatest returner of all time. Perhaps we ought to start a Facebook group, "Real Men Pitch to Christian Yelich."
  16. And the Cubs had to use more of their better bullpen guys - ours got a day off. Hader has had two days off.
  17. Well, we got Game 163... time to take the damn thing. Need that monster game from Yelich.
  18. True. It would require a significant checkout - and given the deal it would take to bring Kikuchi here, I'd want at least two check-ups to be sure. But that said, this is an improvement. I'd easily let Miley try his luck on the free agent market to get Kikuchi. What deal would it take? I'd go for a 6-year, $90 million, with two one-year options at $20 million each. A bit over the Garza deal, but that has good points: 1. It gives us a near-TOR starter for the competitive window. 2. The control would enable a substantial return three or four years down the road. 3. It isn't a bank-breaking deal that would blow up payroll. We are five years removed from the last reports of shoulder pain. This guy should be the Crew's top priority.
  19. Hope the Crew can get him... might be the TOR starter they need.
  20. I'm surprised nobody else here seems to think - or be worried about - the possibility that Lorenzo Cain could siphon enough points away in MVP voting to give the award to Baez over Yelich. He has arguably the highest OBP in the league, provided great defense, and will be second in bWAR.
  21. I see them dropping: Lyles, Granderson, Kratz, Albers, Wilkerson, Jennings, Vogt, and Saladino Suter and Nelson return from 60-day DL, taking the Lyles ans Granderson spots They put QTC, Stokes, Gatewood, Supak, Olczak, and Derby on.
  22. I think Yelich will have to deal with some bleeding of votes at the hands of Lorenzo Cain - with Jesus Aguilar and Josh Hader pulling a few down-ballot votes.
  23. I think it may well come down to which team wins the NL Central. Yelich has a better statistical case, but the Brewers taking NL Central crown would ice it. If the Cubs hang on, Baez potentially gets it over Yelich - especially with Cain potentially siphoning votes off.
  24. Briggs beats me to it. I wish to nominate '79 for at least top three. Hisle, Cooper, Lezcano and Yount's breakthrough season. The most wins by a team until 2011. As mentioned above, the '78-'83 teams pretty much had set rosters the entire season. None of this 40-man manipulation stuff by Harry Dalton. Plus, this year's team struggled to score at times. Yount's breakthrough was 1980... that was when the extra-base power suddenly emerged. Hisle was hurt, though... I sometimes wonder - suppose the Brewers, instead of signing Hisle, had instead signed Dave Kingman - and suppose they'd brought back former Seattle Pilot Mike Marshall to anchor the pen?
  25. Was a military kid in the 1980s, so didn't really follow those teams. I think the 2011 was good, minus Kotsay and Yuni. But Prince and Braun leading the way was awesome to behold... This team, I think, is better. There is an offensive black hole at shortstop (which can be remedied by starting Schoop over Arcia). Pina and Kratz aren't Lucroy, but they haven't been awful. A lights-out pen... starters that are good enough... Plus, they are hot. We will know for sure if this is the best Brewers team of all time in a month or so.
