  1. I'm of two minds. Part of me wants the better pick (and the additional slot money)... but in game like today's, where a young pitcher (Davies) delivers big (7 IP, 1 run), and Lind and Khris Davis increase their trade value, I don't mind that sort of win.
  2. None of us knows how much Matt has left in the tank, but I'm open to finding out after the offseason. While his reaction yesterday (maybe a knee jerk reaction, though maybe not if they were talking about this earlier in the week) holds some cause for concern, I'd frankly be more concerned if he weren't upset about his season in the rotation coming to an early end. Deal him for one of the competitive balance picks. Deal K-Rod for another.
  3. Nick Senzel looks very intriguing, IMO.
  4. Hopefully Michael Reed or Brent Suter get the call.
  5. Don't worry. Zimmerman is not going to be playing for Milwaukee next year. The only reason people keep advocating for him is because he's from Wisconsin and they assume he's going to take a "hometown discount" to play here. Not gonna happen. And when Jungmann, Nelson, Peralta, and two of Davies, Hader, Suter, Ortega, Cravy, Thornburg, and Lopez could fill out the rotation cheap... why spend $14-18 million on Zimmerman? I'd rather trade for Prince Fielder if I'm gonna blow that sorta cash.
  6. That may be true. But right now, what is better, getting a bounce-back from Garza, or seeing what Jorge Ortega and Brent Suter can do?
  7. At this point, dealing him for some A-level prospects with a ceiling would not be a bad idea. Same for K-Rod.
  8. My 40-man moves: REMOVALS: RHP Matt Garza RHP Johnny Hellweg RHP Kyle Lohse RHP Brandon Kinzler C Juan Centeno 1B Matt Clark 1B/3B Jason Rogers IF Matt Dominguez OF Logan Schafer Takes the Brewers down to 30 players. I then add: SS Orlando Arcia OF Michael Reed LHP Brent Suter OF Victor Roache RHP Jorge Lopez RHP Jorge Ortega LHP Wei-Chung Wang RHP Damien Magnifico RHP Adrian Houser Arcia goes without saying. Reed's also someone the Brewers ought to protect. He'll be a much better option than Logan Schafer as a 5th outfielder, and that's the floor of his value (I will likely rank him #4 on my next Top 25 ballot). Brent Suter's just performed this year and last year - and on the next ballot, he's going to be the #2 prospect behind Arcia, and ahead of Reed and Santana. Victor Roache looks like a strong power bat. Jorge Lopez and Jorge Ortega are both pitching well this year. Wang's proven he deserves another shot. Magnifico's a future closer (the right K-Rod trade could open a 40-man spot), and Houser's been nearly lights-out in Biloxi.
  9. Both Ortega and Brent Suter need to be on the 40-man roster... and both are very interesting options for the 2016 roster. Wish the Brewers had gotten him to the Arizona Fall League...
  10. Or maybe to have seen them draft 3B Austin Riley - taken one pick later by the Atlanta Braves - instead?
  11. gregmag... I would argue that given his 2015, if Suter is NOT on the Brewers' 40-man this fall, he will be on some other team's roster next spring. His performance has me sold.
  12. With Brent Suter's season, I would be surprised if he wasn't on the 40-man. Now, my definite picks are: SS Orlando Arcia OF Michael Reed LHP Brent Suter OF Victor Roache RHP Jorge Lopez RHP Jorge Ortega LHP Wei-Chung Wang RHP Damien Magnifico
  13. I am well aware that barring some serious capture of lightning in a bottle, 2016 is gonna stink for Brewers fans. I just want to make the MOST of that year. To me, that means finding out which of the outfield and rotation prospects can hack it. What's there to lose by giving Brent Suter a shot at the major league rotation after the dominating year he's had in AA and AAA? I don't care if the final record is worse than the 56-106 record posted by the 2002 Brewers. I think the Brewers need to see which young players at AAA/AA can contribute.
  14. I think that 2016 has to be the year of evaluating young talent as much as possible. The Brewers have some clear cornerstones: Braun and Lucroy. If Lucroy will accept an extension, great. If not, try to get what you can for him. The real trade assets are: Khris Davis, Matt Garza, Adam Lind, and K-Rod. Scooter Gennett and Jean Segura are somewhat lesser assets... or a decent 2B platoon (Gennett vs. RHP, Segura vs. LHP) in 2017. My thinking for 2016 is that the Brewers need to find out which young/cheap OFs can do what, and the same goes for the starters. For me, this is the ideal opening day 2016 lineup: cf: Michael Reed 2b: Scooter Gennett 3b: Ryan Braun 1b: Adam Lind c: Jon Lucroy rf: Domingo Santana lf: Victor Roache ss: Jean Segura pitcher The ideal rotation: Jungmann, Peralta, Nelson, Suter, Thornburg/Cravy/Wagner
  15. In AAA, there's a 2.59 ERA, 1.07 WHIP in COLORADO SPRINGS. His ERA was below 2 in Biloxi. I'm ready to say he's the best LHP starter prospect the Brewers have. Yes, better than Kirby or Medeiros. He may make it into the top five on my ballot. If he ends up picked by some other team in the Rule V draft, I'm gonna be fuming.
  16. Suter's still dominating... I dunno HOW he's getting those outs, but he gets them. Definitely worth a look for the 2016 rotation.
  17. Why isn't he eligible?
  18. That nails down why the trade idea is stupid. I'd rather have the 35 points of OPS+ at 3B from a guy who wants to be here.
  19. I'm not ready to say he's not elite. Normally over his career, his OPS at Miller Park is 27 points HIGHER than his OPS on the road. But this year, his Miller Park OPS is 175 points LOWER than his OPS on the road. Aside from April, he's been more the Braun Brewers fans have known (the .859 OPS is close to the OPS figure from 2010, and Braun proceeded to lead the league in OPS the next two years) than the 2014 version. They've had to figure out how to get his swing back in shape, and to deal with the treatment his thumb needs. Come 2016-2020, they will have a better handle on the thumb injury, and Braun's swing will be better. Furthermore, Braun and Lucroy are probably the two veterans the team could least afford to lose. Lucroy's going to be needed to get the most out of the young pitchers coming up. Braun's probably the closest thing the Brewers have to a face of the franchise. And if Hernan Perez, Sardinas, Jason Rogers, and Segura flop offensively, there's gonna be a hole at third base. If Braun does revert to 2007-2012 form, then stick him at third until Lara, Gatewood, or someone else is ready for the majors.
  20. My six: SS Orlando Arcia - Deserves a look there OF Michael Reed - Let's see what he can do. OF Victor Roache - Best power bat. C Adam Weisenburger - The best catcher the Brewers have LHP Josh Hader - Worth a longer look LHP Brent Suter - Also a low IP factor, and doing well enough.
  21. Orlando Arcia flashing power... 2 HR, 1 walk so far...
  22. Brent Suter and Michael Reed... in Milwaukee to start 2016???
  23. Of the prospects on the Top 30 list at MLBPipeline.com, which ones would you be willing to trade? http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=mil My list of folks I'd trade in an instant? * OF Tyrone Taylor * SS Jake Gatewood * OF Kyle Wren * 1B David Denson
  24. ^ This is exactly why the Brewers won't even consider him in CF. They already know his arm is SO limited that they moved their best player, Ryan Braun, from LF where he was pretty darn solid to RF to make room for Davis to play the only spot in the OF practical for his defensive limitations. Yeah, he covers ground okay and isn't bad with the glove. But that arm... Anything hit over any CF's head scores runners from first anyway regardless of arm strength of the CF unless the runner has to hold to see if it will be caught. In that case, with a weaker armed CF, you have the relay man out a bit farther. The Brewers didn't consider him for CF before because they had a gold glove guy there already in Gomez and arm strength is more critical in RF than CF to prevent base runners from going from 1st to 3rd on singles. That decision, Braun to RF, Davis to LF was made on a team that for the most part was complete so it's not really relevant to the situation now. With CF now occupied by a career minor league LF/1B and/or a defensive specialist ala Schafer or Wren, and the closest to ready major league bat, also a corner OF in Santana, it's at least worth considering. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying it's perfect. But having Braun and Santana, both of whom have RF arms manning the corners, at least the OF as a whole wouldn't slip as much. Peterson in CF and Davis in LF is far from ideal too. I'd be okay with trying Davis in center if there weren't options like Michael Reed available. Reed's played some center, and might be a better option there than even Shane Peterson.
  25. I have to agree here. I hope David Denson does well, I hope that this works out well for him and that this media storm doesn't end up causing him - or his teammates - trouble.
