  1. Personally, I hope for a hot streak, and then maybe the Brewers can ride that to a point where they can move for a starter for the stretch run.
  2. The real key willbehead-to-head games against St. Louis and the Cubs. If the Brewers can get some sweeps, they have a chance. If not... the Crew's hosed.
  3. Once these shirts were seen as popular, people began to make knockoffs. Now, add the lengthy legal battle, and these things will fly off the street vendors. Couldn't happen to a nicer baseball tam, if you ask me. (And I'll dish out the Schadenfreude given that the Cubs knocked Gallardo out for the season).
  4. He's not a shortstop prospect, no. He has decent range at second, adequate range at third. He'd play SS like Loretta or Cirillo play SS. Of course, that brings up the big question: If he does produce like Overbay and Cirillo did in Milwaukee (.300 average, .380-.400 OBP, 40+ doubles, 15-20 homers), would Loretta-esque defense be an acceptable trade-off? I'd say yes.
  5. Still 63 ABs is a small sample size. I'm not ready to write him off, especially when the walk rate was 1 walk every 3 ABs or thereabouts. The guy's plate discipline is that good, I think the hits will come.
  6. It was just an idea... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Seriously, I think he's an Overbay/Cirillo type... and that would look very nice indeed... :D Edit: Took out unneeded parts of quote. Please do not post whole block quotes when replying. - Toby
  7. I would not go so far as to say without talent. It seems that his offensive skill set closely resembles that of this guy, albeit Green may have a somewhat higher power ceiling and a bit more versatility (unlike that other guy, he can play second and third, and probably could play left in a pinch). You probably can count on Green to give you 40 doubles a year, very solid defense, a good average, and very good OBP skills. I wonder if he could play catcher or shortstop...
  8. 2009 1b: Fielder 2b: Weeks ss: Hardy 3b: Hall/Gamel lf: Braun cf: Cameron rf: Hart c: Kendall 2010 1b: Fielder 2b: R. Weeks ss: J. Weeks 3b: Gamel lf: LaPorta cf: Hart rf: Braun c: Salome 2011 1b: Fielder/Kyle Long (drafted in 2008 draft) 2b: R. Weeks ss: J. Weeks 3b: Gamel lf: LaPorta cf: Hart rf: Braun c: Salome 2012 1b: Kyle Long 2b: R. Weeks ss: J. Weeks 3b: Gamel lf: LaPorta cf: Hart rf: Braun c: Petey Paramore (2008 draft pick)/Salome
  9. Why aren't you sold on Paramore? I don't think switch-hitting catchers with good OBP and the ability to be an Overbay-type doubles machine grow on trees - so, if he is available at 53, I think the Crew ought to take him. This guy's "struggles" at Team USA involved getting 20 walks out of 63 ABs. I'm tempted to write off the average struggles as a small sample size. This guy's OBP skills, though, are about as good as Prince's power is - probably a 12 on a scale from one to 10. Believe it or not, I tried to avoid the high school arms. The Brewers need help sooner rather than later. Hunter could be in the bullpen by July 1. St. Clair and Gutierrez could be in the rotation by Opening Day 2010, I think. Jemile Weeks is someone I'd tap as a shortstop or third baseman. I know he seems to be pegged at second, but I think he could replace Hall at third, or play shortstop, with Gamel at third. As a bonus, it means that Rickie can move to second or third in the order, probably second (in front of Braun and Fielder). Long's my pick simply because I think he could replace Fielder sooner rather than later. I think the contract situation with Fielder is not good - and at this juncture, it's best to have a replacement in the pipeline... and Long could easily be as good a 50-homer guy as Fielder, with some better defense to the mix. If Fielder does go for a long-term deal, great, we can either move Long to the mound, or see the Brewers push for the NL to adopt the designated hitter. If Fielder doesn't sign, then the Brewers can let him walk after 2011 or trade him after 2010, and have Long as their opening day 2011/2012 first baseman (depending on what they decide to do).
  10. Could he be that much worse than Bush?
  11. Dillon is also in his 30s. Heether has a higher ceiling.
  12. For the most part, I tried to limit the picks to those listed at or below the Brewerfan.net ranking in the draft. Hence, I assumed that at 16, anyone in the top 15 was not going to be available (already drafted). The only exception is Gutierrez at 54 (he is 53 overall), but I figured I could get away with it because the Brewers have 53, which went to Paramore (something about a switch-hitting catcher with power...).
  13. I'll toss out my "first six picks" mock - and let y'all comment away. 16. Jemile Weeks, IF, Miami - I want an option at either SS or 3B who can be ready by 2010 to replace either JJ Hardy or Bill Hall/Branyan in the IF. http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewAmateurPlayerProfile.do?playerId=778&draftId=6 32. Brett Hunter, RHP, Pepperdine - Might be a key bullpen arm in 2009 - or sooner. http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewAmateurPlayerProfile.do?playerId=783&draftId=6 35. Cole St. Clair, LHP, Rice - Could be a quick addition to the rotation http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewAmateurPlayerProfile.do?playerId=771&draftId=6 53. Petey Paramore, C, Arizona State - Think Mickey Tettleton behind the plate for the Brewers. I'll take that offense! http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewAmateurPlayerProfile.do?playerId=806&draftId=6 54. Carlos Gutierrez, RHP, Miami - Four-pitch pitcher who could be a good starter. http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewAmateurPlayerProfile.do?playerId=843&draftId=6 62. Kyle Long, 1B/LHP, St. Anne's Belfield HS (VA) - Take your pick, dominating starter or Prince Fielder's replacement. http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewAmateurPlayerProfile.do?playerId=787&draftId=6
  14. I'd still go Jemile at 16, and try him at third or short. Hardy and Hall will both be nearing FA, and having a replacement for them might not be a bad idea. Then try to get a college closer to help with the bullpen, and then start looking for BPA down the road... Antonio Jimenez looks like someone I'd be willing to reach for, although if a college catcher is available... I'd try to get that as well.
  15. Actually, one has to ask if an extension for Kendall be a bad idea at this time. Offer him three years, $20 million ($2 million bonus and $6 million a year).
  16. Dillard's had dominating stretches. From what I gather, he seems to pitch very efficiently - there was a time a couple years back when he racked up a bunch of CGs in the minors. With the kinds of pitch counts that teams hold pitchers to there these days, I think it's a good sign.
  17. He gets it either way. He puts Gagne in, and he's running him down. Stinks, don't it?
  18. Well, silver lining... Parra's put it together.
  19. The thing is, Hall's showing a lot of power when he does connect (14 of his 28 hits, counting tonight's homer, are for extra bases). His strikeout pace is about the same as it was in his 2006 season, when he hit 35 homers. What does his BABIP look like? Does anyone know?
  20. He didn't do so bad today. He wasn't a baby seal out there. Maybe a couple more outings like this, and then he can be worked back up to the ninth.
  21. The Brewers need to make a deal for a starter soon. Package Gamel and Nelson, and a couple of pitchers in the system to get some sort of #2 starter. The inaction is what is driving me crazy!
  22. Are we getting that crew a lot this year? Seriously... it may be time to call for replay.
  23. At this point, I'd assemble a package of prospects headed by Gamel and see what is to be had.
  24. Without Gallardo, or Parra and Villanueva stepping up, this year's down the tubes.
  25. Sheets hasn't been thrown into double-digit CG totals for multiple years. The question is, if Sheets goes, who replaces him in the rotation? Dave Bush? Zach Jackson? Tim Dillard? Who?
