  1. Campbell is #19 on my Top 25 ballot. The versatility was one reason, but he's got OBP skills, speed, hits a bunch of doubles, is a switch-hitter... the type of guy who is very valuable on a bench, to be honest.
  2. I think Woodruff may be the more extendable, given his age and when he was drafted, but the Crew might be able to pull off extending both. Two words: Bobby Bonilla. Offer Woodruff and Burnes eight-year, $200 million deals - with $80 million deferred, payable over 20 years at $4 million a year. They not only get "set for life" money, they have plenty of income down the road post-baseball. Even if it's only Woodruff... a bargain, even on the 20 "out" years.
  3. Who says it's impossible to keep the big three? I wonder if offering Woodruff an 8-year, $120 million deal, with $40 million deferred ($2 million a year for 20 years after the contract) and an option year at $20 million with a $5 million buyout might not be a bad idea. Hear me out - as an 11th round pick, he probably didn't get a huge bonus. He's 28, so why not buy out the arby and some free agency, and at the same time, lock him down with Peralta? It might be a little more difficult with Burnes, since he got around $540K as his bonus as a 4th-round pick and he's younger than Woodruff (26), but could he go for a similar deal?
  4. That is a very good question. Hader could get very expensive. If the Crew has to pay Hader $15 million a year, but could extend the trio of Strickland/Boxberger/Suter for a total of $8 million, and have that $7 million available for the farm system and scouting... perhaps it's better to go for the aggregate production, the additional farm/scouting resources, AND whatever haul Hader nets in a trade. If the Crew can maintain a pipeline of good pitching... it may be smart to make a judicious Hader trade (say, for instance, to an AL team).
  5. This is a game that could end up a save situation. If the Crew had pushed a couple more runs across, it'd be clearly be a bad call to pull Burnes now. But since the Crew hasn't clinched the division yet, calling Hader to get the save is a defensible call.
  6. It's a balancing act. I understand what you are saying but it's not a meaningless game right now for Corbin Burnes. I think Counsell has to both keep an eye on the bigger picture while also respecting the moment and the individual in that moment. Not an easy balance. The Crew has not clinched the division yet, so this game is NOT meaningless. At this point, Burnes is not scuffling. He's still going well. Have someone warm up, but don't pull him unless he loses the no-no.
  7. The way Corbin's going... Counsell can be a little uncomfortable. Nieves needs company.
  8. Wow... I remember when we had Zach's dad closing out games for the Crew. And none of that one-inning stuff, either. I feel old.

  10. I think this is probably the biggest story. It isn't getting the obvious phenoms - although that can help. It's really about developing players and finding those who can maximize their talent, work to improve as players, and to minimize their weaknesses. I know I get crap for some of the prospects I like, but for the Brewers to really be great, I think they have to develop the Ashbys, Woodruffs, Burneses, Peraltas, and yes, the Suters on the pitching side. They also need to maybe take closer looks at the Cooper Hummels, David Frys, Weston Wilsons, and Garrett Coopers as well.
  11. With great reluctance we tolerate your choice in football teams.... Well, I try to be tolerant of the football team choice(s) here, too.
  12. He'll probably be cheap, too, and it might be interesting to see if he'll take a deal that buys out not just arby, but some free-agent years as well.
  13. I know the Crew's looking at Warren for catcher, but it might not be a bad idea to keep his hand in at shortstop. I think Warren, like David Fry, could be a Hernan Perez with a plus bat type. Zamora's giving a Jeff Cirillo/Lyle Overbay vibe at short, which is always nice. Mitchell's looking like a left-handed Lorenzo Cain with a bit more power. Weimer is looking like a relative steal in that shortened draft... and while the power was always there, I'm more impressed by what he's doing on the basepaths - he could rob a few teams blind. Cantrelle is a god of walks, and that bad average has to be more about bad luck.
  14. Same here... even try to work out some sort of extension that keeps him here beyond free agency. Only if that fails, do you consider a deal, and even then, that deal has to be very careful (maybe to a fringe competitor who may not even make the playoffs) so as to not damage a given year's chance to win it all by having to face him in the playoffs.
  15. Growing up in a military family, meant I didn't really get "Hometown" teams, so I adopted them from across the country. NHL - Edmonton Oilers, NBA - Chicago Bulls, NFL - Da Bears, plus I got exposed to Australian Football (Geelong Cats). Hence, the... "odd" selection of some photos.
  16. And we can even celebrate a wideout named to the all-underrated team!
  17. Absolutely zero question that you should trade a Lauer or a Houser for a pre-trade Adames (setting aside how many years of team control are at issue). Adames had tremendous value at the time of that trade. He was an elite prospect within the last couple years and was excellent as recently as 2020. The Rays panicked and sold low. I don't understand why there are still people trying to rationalize that trade for the Rays. Recent top 15-20 prospect in baseball 2019 WAR per 162 games: 4.2 rWAR, 3.1 fWAR 2020 WAR per 162 games: 6.0 rWAR, 4.5 fWAR Panicked, or were eager for their wunderkind prospect Franco to be in the majors? Honestly, to get two very good relief pitchers in Rasmussen (who I think becomes a right-handed Hader) and Feyerisen for a few years is not a BAD return for Adames... and to be honest, giving up Rasmussen is still a little painful. Said pain will go away when the Crew extends Adames.
