  1. And I just read today that the Pirates were asking for the moon for them. Guess that wasn't the most accurate report.
  2. I never understand these types of comments from people. The difference is what is a successful homestand? 5-2 would still be a brilliant homestand with the teams we will be playing. Anything more than that would be amazing. If your comment is just about people not expecting to win, then ya, it applies, but I don't think you'd see many people here saying, we don't expect wins. And that's a big difference. Earlier in this season, I didn't go into a game expecting to see a Brewers win, Boston comes to mind. Now I go in expecting we can take the Cubs every time we face them, but realistically there are successful outcomes to this homestand if we don't go 7-0.
  3. Ya, I don't think games will be coming out for much longer, but the good news is that PS2 has an extensive list of already great games you could get for pretty cheap, new or used. If you've never played a lot of them, it would still be pretty worthwhile to play them now if you're looking for a money saving option, IMO. Of course, if you mostly only play sports games, its a bit of a different story, but I could list out some must play games on the PS2. Heck, I still pull out God of War and play it from time to time honestly.
  4. I can't believe I know this, but he said, "with the crack of the bat", which wasn't wrong. (edit: nested quote --1992)
  5. I've made mention of this before as well. He re-treads all game long. If you watch the game everyday, then it really becomes annoying. I should also note, that these are just annoyances really. I've never thought I hated our announcers, but I obviously have some gripes with their style.
  6. Since it was talked about, I checked out a handful of Cardinal forums and based off how quickly this thread has grown to 10 pages, I thought I'd see some heat. Nope, I found all of one actual thread dedicated to it, and most people didn't even get mad; http://www.birdsonthebat.org/showthread.php?t=51230 There are a handful of comments on the various boards in game threads, but the attitude is basically the same as that thread. We're the ones making a big deal of it.
  7. I didn't see the second page of this thread when I posted, but ya, that's exactly right.
  8. I think its something that is fine to be talked about by the broadcasters, but he does it weird. Similar to the comments about how last night was treated as game over, he's acted like the no-hitter is a foregone conclusion. I find it silly that he'll say, "and we're watching something special brew right here" and its the friggin 5th inning or something. I often wonder if he's just not really in-tune with the game yet. He doesn't seem as bad about it this year as last year, but there are times he says something really weird and then Bill is silent forever I've noticed. And he really needs to learn to read if a ball has a chance off the bat to clear the wall or not. Anything in the air and he gets the tone that he thinks its about to go out. He's as bad as the bandwagon fans at the stadium in that respect, who think every ball Prince hits is going to be a homer.
  9. This is pretty well where I stand. It was the moment. I hate how our culture labels someone as a whole, based off one moment only. We already know that other teams, other players, and fans on both sides think Braun is cocky. Personally I don't see it. Braun hustles out of the box on nearly every homer he hits. Last night's homer was a huge homer. Does "baseball etiquette" say he shouldn't have walked out of the box gawking at it, sure, but I don't think he was showing up the other team and I don't think its indicative of him as a player. I think Braun's pimp walk out of the box last season against the Astros was showboating and I think he got talked to and he's not had any real bad examples since then, in my opinion of course. All and all, I think Braun is labeled as cocky for a couple of instances, including this one, and I don't think that's justified. They guy has been a class act in almost every other aspect I've seen him. He treats the fans and his team with respect, he never brags in interviews and always mentions his teammates success in interviews. I think its horribly unfair to label him as cocky because of something like this. On the other hand, I think Bill Hall does have more of a problem with standing around gawking at his homers, despite the situation, and yes, there have been times when he's glaring at it and it doesn't actually go out. It makes him look like a fool, but I don't know if it means he's showing up the other team. Had Braun not cleared the wall last night, he would have looked a fool too, but while everyone is debating how far it went out, I don't recall seeing anyone in this thread saying they didn't think it was gone when he hit it. I knew that ball was gone when it came off the bat, and I think most everyone else did too.
  10. My question is, who is LaRussa going to throw at now, Fielder still or Braun? You certainly can't throw at them both.* That should be like a half blue. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. I think Braun is way better about it, he's been good this year about putting his head down and maybe having a fist pump. I'm not upset about this one really, it was a huge homerun that capped an absolutely huge road trip. Did Braun earn himself a plunk in the ribs when we see the Cards in August, no doubt. But its not like he does a trot on every homer he hits like other guys in the league. Billy's falls into a pretty similar note, hitting a game winner two nights in a row. Also, Albert starteed posing on Monday night when he thought he had hit a big game winning homerun too I thought.
  12. So we're not the same old Brewers because we've built a good team, but their the same old Cubs even though they've built a good team? Or is only that we've done it smartly, which I assume is to mean through the farm? I don't know if I'd say the Cubs should be nervous really right now. While we see all of our games against them as a chance to do some damage, from the other side of the fence you see it as a chance to widen the gap if you have confidence in your team. I'd go on a limb and say the Cubs fanbase has more confidence in their team right now than we did at this point last season. As a Brewer fan, I'm nervous that its turning into such a packed race. I like our chances all and all though.
  13. Who else just got this email about auctioning of these statues that I guess were all over New York for the All Star festivities? The whole thing seems a little gratuitous to me and, IMO, was really just a bad, bad marketing idea. I may be bias though, as I always thought the painted cows and those creatures that were all over Milwaukee a few years ago, where really hookie, so to apply that concept onto the Statue of Liberty seems really silly to me. http://akamai.edeal.com/images/catalog750/folder13533/img6598740.jpghttp://akamai.edeal.com/images/catalog750/folder13533/img6598712.jpg Here's the full list
  14. I don't know if Gallardo's debut sold out last year, but it had to be darn close and that was a weekday I believe. EDIT: Gallardo's debut was a Monday and the attendance was 41,631.
  15. Wow, that's just amazing timing!
  16. Wins/Losses for a SP are overblown in my opinion. I think Capuano last season is a pretty good example. A lot of noise got made about his 11 (or whatever the final number was) consective losses last year, and the implication is that he was a horrible pitcher, but in reality Capuano made a lot of good starts in that stretch where he either got absolutely no run support or got a ND. His W/L record was not really a great indicator of how he pitched. That's not to say he was a stellar pitcher all season through, but his record just doesn't indicate how he pitched.
  17. This thread was almost on page 4! I'll bump it with this choice comment; That's a relief, for a second there I really believed they all got together and agreed to that!
  18. I wish the FSN-HD channel on Time Warner would actually list the games in the program guide. You can't set the game up to record on the DVR then as everything is just listed in 4 hour blocks. If you want to record the HD channel you need to schedule it to record 8 hours of HD, with 4 hours of it being no-signal broadcast. Of course, before Time Warner changed the box software a few months ago, you could create a manual recording, so I could just tell it what time to start recording, but you can't do that with the new software. So annoying. Is that problem present on DirecTv?
  19. I can't believe the Player's Union is going to argue that the Astros didn't have the right to terminate his contract. Chacon and Wade's stories are pretty exact opposite on who was yelling, so I'd have to guess it was both of them doing the yelling. All the same, Chacon's comments about only regretting that they didn't leave him alone, doesn't earn him any further respect. He doesn't regret that he choked his GM, only that the GM didn't leave him alone. Classy.
  20. I was at 2 games last week, and they didn't even come pass out All-Star ballots in the seats, as they have for about as long as I can remember. Tuesday night I never even left my seat, so I know I didn't just miss it. I don't think I've been to a game yet that they handed out ballots this year.
  21. Ya, as everyone said, it is actually clever and funny. And I have to point that out, since I'm normally one to disparage ESPN.
  22. That made me shiver like nails on a chalk board.
  23. I wonder how much of Prince's "attitude" is the imagination of the fans and the media though? I mean, Prince's comment wasn't nearly as bad as we hear from players in other sports, and yet people treat it like constantly complains about it. Is it coming up because of anything that we really know of? What else have we seen to indicate he has an attitude problem that is effecting the clubhouse or not making him a leader?
  24. Doing it for the final 2 months of the season seems silly, and as much as I cringe about instant replay in baseball, I think its becoming hard to argue against. Maybe its the media attention, but it really seems that there are so many more blatantly blown calls this season. I remember someone posting a clip earlier this season from a Braves game, that was just amazingly bad. Overall I think the umpiring has been brutal this year, its hard to decide how to even use instant replay. The balls and strikes are really all over the place this year, bad calls at bases seem up, and then the homerun misses.
  25. I only caught a replay clip on the stream, but I heard him say that he thinks Prince has an attitude problem, something about Hall that I didn't catch, and that he thinks that Yost is a competent manager that is under a lot of stress and he thinks that is not making him loose. Lots of "I think", which is about as good as what "we think".
