If Ike Davis keep raking in AAA the Mets might be off the table for Fielder, which is the one team I could see really overpaying for Fielder either in trade or free agency.
Keep in mind that get away day games, even in Chicago, is when he'll do other media appearances in his off innings. And sometimes those meetings may happen near an open bar...
The people who think Fielder will bring in 5 AAA+++ prospects are the same people who would kill Melvin if he offered a similar deal for Cliff Lee this off season. And Lee is much cheaper than Fielder will be. The return will be a 20 year AA player with up side plus two B type prospects. See the Johan Santanna deal.
The only players to have bad games are Narveson (who was brought into face two RHers!?!?!) and Hawkins who ran out of gas and was left to face Fukudome for no reason.
Boston needs a DH and not a 1B making them a bad match. Why trade for Prince or pay him $23m when you can get Dunn or Berkman on a 2 year deal for less than half the yearly amount?
You are giving Yost way too much credit here. People seem to have a rosy view of Yost. Remember his having Shouse IBB Howard and face Burrell is what got him canned. Yost could easily call on Stetter and have him IBB Fukudome...
