  1. For all the talk about Fielder's defense and having to become a DH Braun's defense is just as bad. As to how much Braun left by not going year to year, would he have qualified as a Super 2?
  2. If Rosenthal says it it has a 10% chance of being true.
  3. Yeah if the Tigers pick up enough it might be OK (or say Hart and Suppan for Ordonez and cash) but the Tigers just sent Robertson to to this Fish so until Willis implodes I doubt they'd want Suppan.
  4. He'll cost $4m more and you can't use him too much because then he'll cost $15m next year.
  5. Suppan said that the Attanasio dinner is what made him choose Milwaukee
  6. Jose Guillen, Dontrelle Willis, Carlos Lee, Alfonso Soriano, Magglio Ordonez, Barry Zito, Oliver Perez, Eric Chavez
  7. I think rehab is 7 days I think but thats for real minor league games. Extended spring training doesn't count.
  8. The problem is that Butler is still hurt. You have the 6th man in the pen and Estrada right now as rotation depth. Keeping Suppan around for a month doesn't hurt the Brewers.
  9. If you just need the phone in Milwaukee or Chicago AT&T might work (but again their coverage is so thin they are about to sell people $150 mini towers). But if you need to use the 3G network it might be a problem in between the two cities. (edit: took parenthesis out of link --1992)
  10. Butler's injury is a big reason why the Brewers just can't cut Suppan. Right now their options are basically down to Estrada and a bunch of guys with little experience above A+.
  11. How does that follow? The Brewers have Stetter.
  12. Looks like the oft rumoured Verizon iPhone is coming this year: http://online.wsj.com/art...tml?mod=WSJ_Tech_LEADTop
  13. The problem with Ellerson is that he plays the ex-jock role to the hilt and so even in an area in which he has no knowledge but yet offers his opinion the audience of that show tends to always side with him.
  14. 1)Never ever trust the Heritage Foundation on anything. 2) Yes the Fed has been increasing the monetary base but they can shrink the monetary base the same way and just as quickly 3)No actual economist expects inflation and the market doesn't expect inflation 4)Debt has little affect on inflation as long as no one sees inflation as the only avenue for government revenue 5) Deflation is much more a problem right now than inflation
  15. To me that means don't expect a contract signing ceremony on opening day and nothing past that
  16. People just don't seem to understand that baseball isn't football. Players don't hold out(well outside of draft picks to some extent). Players who sign long term deals never complain about it openly and they all seem to accept the trade off guaranteed contracts bring. The most you see is a Pujols who believes he gave a hometown discount once and so isn't inclined to do it again. You do have Ryan Howard type flareups over arbitration but again no hold out. You'll see trade demands over playing time or to try to get off a rebuilding team but nothing over salary. It just isn't done and to be a baseball reporter and not know this is irresponsible but I expect such things from the Gary Howard led sports page. Also this does mean for all those people who want baseball to kill off guaranteed contracts that does mean you will have holdouts, you will have trade demands, and you will likely help large market teams even more as they have the cash resources to pay huge signing bonuses.
  17. Verizon and T-Mobile have just lowered their prices to be $99 a month as well. Avoid an iPhone because of AT&T. The Verizon commercials about AT&T's coverage are actually to generous because AT&T has terrible coverage in even those areas it has a 3G network. In San Francisco and New York for example the circuits are often too full and the coverage is thin everywhere.
  18. It just doesn't make sense. If Arizona is so desperate for pitching that they'd take Suppan, why did they leave Gaudin, an actual decent pitcher, go unclaimed?
  19. Don't confuse being lucky with being good. He wasn't good at all last year outside of June. His FIP by month last year was 6.29, 6.87, 3.54, 6.61, 6.29, 5.53.
  20. That ignores what Narveson did in AAA last year. Yeah he was 27 but he still put up an FIP of 2.78 in 75 innings. His K rate really went up starting in 2008 when it went from 6.9 to 8.27.
  21. If Bush wasn't in the rotation it would be a sign that Suppan was since I see no way they carry four lefties in the rotation. So we have that at least.
  22. Don't see him getting to the Brewers. Then again I don't see why the Giants would release him. That said I'd rather have him on the bench Gerut starting in CF and Gomez in Nashville than the current arrangement.
  23. It would be Lowell for Suppan straight up since the salaries basically match. Its almost certainly why the Brewers were scouting him. Lowell on the Brewers would back up 1B mostl and be the lone RH bench bat. His time at 3B would be non-existent with Counsell already on the roster.
  24. When exactly were the Brewers interested in Snyder? I could see a decent amount before Zaun was signed. Now? Not really. Lots of times local beat guys just use old info to come up with scenarios.
  25. Nothing. Boston wants to dump Lowell. Suppan for Lowell isn't a bad deal if the Brewers pay off the option, though they may have to throw in a Dillard type relief arm. If Guillen were to take Gomez's spot, Gerut would start and Edmonds would be the primary backup leaving 5 PAs a week or so for Guillen as a PHitter and then he'd be cut if Gomez gets his offense together in Nashville. That said Guillen is not worth the pain of taking him on even in exchange for Suppan.
