  1. Braun grades out below average in LF the place where Lee, Dunn, and Ramirez play. He shouldn't be moved.
  2. An FIP of 3.30. Its almost like a BABIP of .363 and alow strand rate is driving his ERA or something....
  3. If he falls to the Brewers they definitely should put in a claim though the 40 man maybe really full.
  4. Then again Narveson will likely only go 4 so Butler could get a chance. Also at this point I'd shut Coffey down, he seems to have a wall, which would open up more innings.
  5. Who only does it with Escobar? Many here complained they brought up Hardy too early. The difference with Hardy and Escobar vs Weeks, Fielder, Braun, Hart, and even Gamel is those later 5 destroyed AAA pitching before getting called up. In addition those later 5 were all expected to outproduce the incumbent player.
  6. Hardy did have a terrible year. But Hardy's terrible, rotten, no good, very bad year is the expectation of what Escobar would do right now. Gamel hit in MLB what Escobar hit in AAA and got sent down for it.
  7. Its the exact opposite, there would be a need to move Hardy before when he was gone after 2010, now there isn't. If tehy don't get a good offer they can send Escobar down and have him actually earn his way up. As for Anderson, the one thing the Brewers can draft are power hitting 1B. Why trade for one who might end up being a product of his A+ ball park when you can likely pull out a college slugger who will be better faster anyway?
  8. And that ended up being a disaster. Cruz didn't play and the Brewers likely killed any chance of a career by keeping him from playing for a full year. Cain would be going 2 season without playing fulltime, what value would te remaining player have after his season in MLB?
  9. I'm not married to it, just picking out an illustrative name. McGehee was a WARP of 2.1 while Hanson is at 1.8. But even say Hanson pitched 40 fewer innings I'd still easily make the trade but wouldn't call Hanson ROY.
  10. Duncan was really upset and took a few days off actually. He may leave while LaRussa stays, but if thats the case he'll probably go somewhere were he wouldn't have to face LaRussa 15-18 times a year.
  11. Seriously, I'd trade McGehee for Hanson in a second but McGehee has been more valuable this year.
  12. Buster Olney also said Ben Sheets was going to be traded to the Red Sox every year from 2004 from 2007.
  13. Andrus away from Texas:.248 .307 .338
  14. That was different though, Reyes was a 22 year old hot prospect, not a washed up scrub. He's been in the .350's every year since. Patterson and Kendall have an approximately 0% chance of having a season with an OBP that high. Reyes could be justified as being groomed for the future. There's no justification for having Patterson or Kendall lead off. There really isn't a way to justify having either of them on the team at all. My point is that we have the same guy in our dugout that ran a not ready Reyes out there in a year the Mets could have competed because Reyes was fast.
  15. In 2005 Jose Reyes bat lead off and put up the line .273/.300/.386. Yep he was given 733(!) PAs with a .300 OBP. Now who was his manager, hmm......
  16. Actually Bedard is coming off major surgery and won't start rehab until like February.
  17. They realize that pitchers like Suppan and Looper really aren't that good and so let them walk when the time comes
  18. I thought maybe they called Patterson up in order to open space for Hart in AAA. If Hart can now go and Patterson still plays...
  19. Except that isn't the A's model. The A's rebuild when they look bad but will add talent when they think they have a chance. Beane made a career of renting players for draft picks.
  20. That .400 slg is way too optimistic. Much closer to .360.
  21. By terrible I mean his defense. UZR had him at -25.6 and scouting reports agreed he couldn't do anything in RF. There were serious question if he coudl paly the field again and a mid 800 OPS with declining power doesn't make a $10m/year DH. With the Angels his defense has rebounded.
  22. Bobby Abreu was coming off a terrible year and no one knew if he could play the field anymore. He's not getting $5m next year.
  23. Bill Hall is waiving to you
  24. No prospects bring established players and vice versa. Prospect for prospect trades are rare because of the issues involved. They've become more prevalent but are still a small minority of trades. Trading established players for other established players does happen but only in general for average or below average players. The success cycle dictates getting major league talent on the roster at the same time so it makes little sense to fill one hole on the roster by creating another someplace else. Occasionally a team has enough depth to do it but that depth is almost never in starting pitching. The teams that trade starting pitchers tend to be teams ready to rebuild which means they have no use for Hardy.
  25. Its not just value, its what will be offered. For example take Webb. The DBacks moving him means they are rebuilding and want prospects back not a player that won't be there for their next winning team. Hardy in general will bring back prospects while Escobar would bring back established talent.
