  1. Wow, dude, just wow. You just compared Brauns monster minor league career and 5th overall pick status to McGehee's pedestrian minor league career. Braun had a huge history of success when he signed that extension, even if it wasn't all in the Majors. If McGehee has a good year next, it will be just the 2nd good year he's had since HS. It has nothing to do with McGehee its the idea that signing Hall was a franchise killing move and that it even was the wrong thing to do. The point is that long term contracts aren't this evil thing that always has to be avoided.
  2. Good thing the Brewers traded Fielder after his down 2008! Imagine having to deal with his 2009.... The reason to consider trading Escoabr is that right now he could bring more and would be more likely to bring in an established major league pitcher than Hardy due to success cycle concerns anyway.
  3. Then you should be screaming at Melvin for that contract he gave Braun.
  4. He's not untouchable but they have no reason to trade a guy making minimum for any reason.
  5. No it isn't a myth. Vargas cost all of Rotino. Odalis Perez is still out there. In addition to that, the Brewers need to improve their rotation. Gallardo and Parra are set. Bush is likely set. Suppan's contract makes him almost a certainty. That's 4 spots.
  6. Looper is one of the most overpaid players on the team. There is no way they should pick up that option. Looper has pitched at half a win below replacement level. You can say his home run rate is all random but he's lost velocity. A RHP with a sub 90s fastball with a mediocre GB/FB ratio isn't worth keeping around.
  7. Braun at best is an average LFer. There is just no reason to move him.
  8. Sure but Escobar would have the higher trade value right now because of it and its not like Hardy is hugely expensive. Hardy would have to have a huge turn around next season to break $15m over 2 years right now.
  9. Yes he did. Braun signed before arby was even close to be seen. Unless Fielder had a career ending injury, something he's likely insured for, he was going to get that amount of money. He was a 24 year old coming off a 50 home run season.
  10. Actually if Hardy is kept in AAA until September Escobar then becomes eminently tradeable.
  11. Given that they haven't overpaid for Hardy, Hart or Cameron your point makes little sense.
  12. Fielder for Shields? I can make up trades and then yell at Melvin for not making them too! Last year there was no market for Fielder since the FA market was loaded with no field all bat guys and the Rays got one. Fielder if moved isn't going to bring a top line starter, he'll bring a guy like Bucholz who will likely take at least a year (and likely it will be an AA guy who willr eguire 1-2 years) before bweing dominant. Which means that if you trade Fielder you might as well move Hart, Hardy, Weeks, and Bush as well. That is rebuilding.
  13. For a world wide draft to occur MLB would have to take over Latin American scouting. Basically they would set up national academies bringing in 14 year olds and graduating 17-18 year olds.
  14. Well it has now become official, Memphis has to vacate their 2007-2008 season.
  15. Escobar if healthy is a #1 type starter. He's been really, really, good for a long time. Basically since he became an Angel he has been a top flight power pitcher. Bu he's pretty much missed the last two years.
  16. People are assuming Hoffman will be dying to come back here. I don't because he wanted to come here to get 40 saves. He'll get around 30. Not sure he'll come back if there is an offer from a team where he could get more than 40 innings of work.
  17. The Kevin Gregg Experience is at an end and so the Cubs are in search of a closer. Now obviously this would be the ultimate white flag for the Brewers, but why not?
  18. It the players and the owners against other owners. The union would love to slot the draft and as would about 20 teams. Its the other 10 teams that are happy being able to use their moeny to buy players others can't sign.
  19. To have a shot the Brewers need to win 27-30 of their remaining games.
  20. Yount was done. Its hard to find another player who went from MVP to crap the next season, but Yount pretty much did.
  21. Kennedy has zero value right now. A soon to be 25 year old coming off major injury who has less than stellar stuff. The Yankees should have moved him in the offseason as soon as it was determined he'd never break the rotation.
  22. Except Milwaukee then has a window to sign Davis to extension before the open FA period begins. Now I'm not saying tis worth $2.4m to keep a guy like Davis around so he doesn't sign somewhere else but it makes more sense than paying $2.4m for a supplemental pick.
  23. The doesn't mean they aren't talking. My guess is Davis want 3 years and the DBacks are unlikely to give more than 2. So the DBacks believe Davis will sign since no one else will offer him 3 years once free agency roles around.
  24. I think its more they want Davis back and are afraid that Milwaukee would be the one place that could sign him if he's traded.
