  1. Baltimore's payroll is less than the Brewer's. I think people need to realize that its The Yankees at over $200m. Then a huge gap down to the Mets and Cubs at around $140m. Detroit and Philly at around $130m. Boston and the Angels at $120m. The Dodgers at 110 and Hosuton at 105. Meaning that the difference in Milwaukee's payroll to the #2 team is less than from #2 to #1.
  2. Its local endorsement deals. Brewers get Time Warner Milwaukee (and the Time Warner curse!) cable deals that pay maybe 5 figures plus free cable. Same type of deal in New York would be at least 6 figures if not 7. Plus a bunch of corporate appearance opportunities for like $50,000.
  3. But... don't you round up to .2995, then round up to .300?!?! It's a fix! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Time for someone to go through play by play data and turn a ROE into a hit
  4. He can at least replace McClung. No reason to stick someone his age in AAA.
  5. Well to be fair the Blue Jay have had only one sub 70 win season since 2000 with a bunch of winning seasons. Its just that 85 wins isn't enough in the AL East but would work in the other 2 AL divisions or in the NL.
  6. Its nearly impossible to find a scenario in which trading Braun makes sense. Say the Red Sox decide to let Bay go and target Braun. It would take most of their prospects and then I'm not sure it could happen because the Brewers might not have the 40-man space (Bard, Bucholz and Bowden all have 40 man spots for example).
  7. Pros: He's a CFer He's won it before He hit fairly well He's been very good defensively Cons: He plays in Milwaukee which means less exposure and no post season play or playoff chase Matt Kemp hit really well and may get a spot Former winners McClouth and Victorino hit about as well as Cameron for teams in playoffs/palyoff chases He's old and not as fast as say Bourn which can cloud judgement I don't know. It looks to be close.
  8. 1 win isn't small, its huge. The difference between an average player and an All Star is 2 wins.
  9. The Blue Jays don't run on a tiny budget. The last 4 seasons: $80m, 97m, 81m, 71m.
  10. Jeter .317/.394/.422 Esclobar: .298/.353/.409 Those aren't anywhere close to one another. 22 isn't that young for AAA. The point is Brantley will only be in the majors because the Indians will be rebuilding.
  11. The problem with that Russ is managers make more than GMs in general and we know managers have a much smaller impact than GMs.
  12. How would Brantley be perfect next year? Brantley in AAA: .267/.350/.361. That's an MLE of .237/.306/.318. Yes he has great speed, but Gerut would still be a better option if they don't bring back Cameron.
  13. I resisted writing "You won't have Dick to jerk around anymore!" for the title. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4526804
  14. Smith didn't have such a problem in the minors so it could just be random
  15. No he hasn't. When signed there is not even a pessimist who thought he would have been as bad last year and this year as he was. He was expected to be average for 2 years, barely above replacement this year and below replacement next year.
  16. Except Hardy was among the top defensive SS in the league which would be an A for defense. So on average that's a C. And Cameron's OBP was .344. You act like it's been bad.
  17. There is no reason to use him. McClung was terrible this year and has just come back from the DL.
  18. And I see no reason why the Mariners do that. Yeah they need offense., but one good thing about running Griffey out there is that its easy to improve upon his numbers for free. Unless its like Fielder and Gamel for Hernandez but losing Hernandez would really hurt the Mariners for the next two years which makes trading for Fielder useless.
  19. He only got 16 PAs in September after two bad months in July and August so there is some question to what the Rockies really think about him.
  20. Milwaukee has a top line defense in the infield. Milwaukee's issues are at corner outfield.
  21. For the same reason the Blue Jays didn't trade Halladay for the package that at least included Bucholz plus, because they overplayed their hand. The Twins screwed that up greatly.
  22. Pinero is not the same pitcher he was with the Mariners. With the Mariners he was king 6.5-7 per 9 innings, now its 4. His GB% this year is 61.4%, last year it was 48.5%. His HR/FB% is 4.6% this year, for his career its 11%. He is having a huge outlier season. Not Suppan-like which was smoke and mirrors (Suppan actually pitched better for the Brewers his first year than he did the previous year for the Cardinals) but in a way that makes it unlikely he'll keep this up going forward.
  23. Very few? Try 14 this season with a min 300 PAs.
  24. How is what I'm saying incorrect. 6 months makes it March for full rehab assuming everything goes well. Then two months for getting his arm back in ptiching shape and we're at June without any set abcks. But this is Bedard, setbacks are almost assured.
  25. Despite doesn't work. WAR is entirely based on peripherals. Bush has a tendency to out pitch his peripherals, which he was doing to an extent this year until he got hurt.
