  1. People are counting 1 st round picks way too early. You only get 1st round picks if a the team signing the player is good and its the highest rated player they sign. For example if the Yankees sign Linebrink he could easily be the third highest FA they sign (assuming he gets classified type A to begin with). So now the 1st round pick is a 3rd round pick. Next, Gagne is likely not to be type A. Its based on two seasons and Gagne pitched 2 inning in 2006. He'll be lucky to be considered type B.
  2. LaPorta actually has to be in the minor leagues at some time before you can say he's starting in 2009.
  3. Castillo is having the same season Weeks is. Castillo's WARP is 1.7 while Weeks' is 1.8. Castillo has not been the player he was in Miami due to age an injury.
  4. Castillo is a bad player who is a FA at the end of the year, not sure how the Twins are getting ripped off.
  5. While on teh subject of RZR and OOZ? does anyone know how large samples have to be in order to be worthwhile? I ask because according to RZR, OOZ, and the similar FRAA Gwynn has been a disaster in the field.
  6. I do love having to get 13 hits to score 5 runs! No more Homers! http://www.bobpitch.com/anon/Spankie_No%20Homers.jpg
  7. At 80 you're 15 over-at 75 you're 10 over-big difference in fines/points. If you go to court, you'll have the points dropped but not the fine. It will be ruled 1-10 over vs 10-20 over. It also will have a smaller effect on your insurance. And yeah, depending upon his "quota" he may have lied to get you up to 80 since 1-10 over citations don't do much.
  8. Coco isn't blowing saves. He's blowing games that should be in the bag. Sure you'll blow 1 run games. He's given up three runs. This pretty much shows Cordero's achievement yesterday: http://www.fangraphs.com/tgraphs/20070728_Brewers_Cardinals_1.png Basically a closer should blow maybe one of these a season. Cordero has three in the last month.
  9. Anytime your Closer gives up 3 runs you'll lose.
  10. Vargas is almost certainly gone no matter what Parra does.
  11. They're doing play by play because Bill and Brian aren't real men and can't handle the DH. Apparently the ball to Eckstein hit a piece of grit.
  12. The Cardinals have only 12 pitchers I think. That means 6 relievers with two likely unavailable. We might see a position player pitching today.
  13. Just not enough grit there for Eckstein
  14. Stupid Home Runs! Braun should have stopped at second on principle!
  15. You're going to have a OBP problem when you have two players who'll see a decent amount of time struggling to maintain OBPs above .300.
  16. Obermueller for Kolb. Sure Obermueller didn't do anything, but we had to deal with Kolb for another season.
  17. Again we get to what manufacturing run now means. Bill was beyond gleeful that the Brewers "manufactured" runs tonight. You know by killing the ball. But only one home run, which apparently means they played "small ball". I swear most of this comes from fans who constantly hear Bill complain about that they start repeating all over the place.
  18. Dunn has a no trade clause with his option. He won't be signing a one year deal with anyone.
  19. He isn't getting on at a good clip. He's getting on 100 points higher than his BA, but when you're hitting .214 that doesn't help much.
  20. Lou has pulled him all the time to give Pagan play.
  21. Steroids were "banned" like other illegal drugs. And only because the government declared them illegal, not due to anything baseball did. They weren't tested for and if anybody asked, all you needed was a perscription. Bill Romanowski could probably help you out there...
  22. Sosa brings nothing. His current "batting" line: .241/.303/.451 The reason the Rangers can't get anything is because Sosa can't hit. Add to that he can't field and there is a reason no one returns the Ranger's calls.
