  1. Braun has 59 RBIs. Unless Weeks and Hart have something like a OBP of .500 over the rest of the season, Braun has little chance at MVP. You need 100 RBIs to even be considered. Now as to things that actually give you an idea of how good Braun actually is, his VORP is 43.6 which is lapping the other rookies. Pence is second in the NL with 29.5. AS for overall in the NL: 1). H. Ramirez 67.2 2). Cabrera 62.7 3). C. Jones 53.9 4). Utley 53.8 5). Fielder 50.9 6). Wright 49.8 7). Bonds 49.7 8). Holliday 48.4 9). Pujols 46.6 10). Reyes 45.7 11). Renteria 43.9 12). Braun 43.6 Yes it is disheartening that none of the top 3 has a real chance at MVP. Ok, if Jones carries the Braves to a division title over the next 6 weeks, he has a small chance. All things considered, If I had a vote it would be Utley in order for my vote to have weight. That said Fielder is the favorite right now, but if Howard takes the home run lead Howard could get it. 2. Hart looked more upset with the ump than anything.
  3. The problem isn't the platoon its the use of Mench. Mench has hit lefties a tune of .305/.338/.516 which is far from bad. The problem is against RHers Mench has the Moeller like line of .219/.250/.316. Now that wouldn't matter if Mench never was ever used against RHP unless everyone else is in the game and Capuano is back at the hotel because he's starting tomorrow. But Mench's use doesn't show that. He has 135 PAs vs LHP and 119 vs RHPs.
  4. Jenkins in August so far this year: .346 .393 .538 .931 Once is a fluke, twice a coincidence, an entire career might say something.
  5. ts walking distance. You cut right through the VA grounds. Now with a 4 year old you might need to be prepared to do some carrying though. As for what to do, the big things going on are Irish Fest at the lake. At the Zoo its ala carte that weekend where a bunch of Milwaukee resteraunts set up shop at the zoo for walking and eating. The biggest problem with those things is that both involve a bit of walking and depending on the heat that might not be that great with kids (though the zoo does have AC in many buildings) For a little it more, the Milwaukee calndar of events page :http://www.milwaukee.org/calendar/index.cfm
  6. Unlike most announcers, JP is actually employed by WTMJ and not the Brewers and he demanded that. Now he doesn't do much outside of baseball (ie he'll do sports coverage for vacations etc over the winter) but he isn't the typical shill.
  7. Mench has a sub 550 OPS vs RHP. He's a new Wes Helms.
  8. Branyan was on a minor league deal, no waivers needed. And the Brewers don't need a 3B. If Graffy got hurt a week ago, Cirillo would likely be in a Brewer uniform. That didn't happen. Again to claim a player you need to let one go. Who goes?
  9. Rice's WARP for his career was 79.3. Bonds WARP by age 32 was 126.3. No Rice and Bonds are not comparable. EDIT:For a bit more perspective, Yount's career WARP was 114.5. Arod's currently at 110.5
  10. People only started to like Ted Williams outside of Boston after he was gone for a decade. I like Geno's little judo thing going on there. Roger Maris' record? Bonds didn't break Maris' record. Broke a record held by the name McGuire. And I would hardly be surprised if Maris used steroids. After all hair loss is a symptom of steroid use.
  11. Lisa: No! I belong here! Please! Homer: Don't worry, honey. We can't afford this now, but when it's time, I promise my darling daughter can go to the finest school there is ... in South Carolina. Lisa: Oh! I will not be a Gamecock! Homer: You will too! [Lisa continues her struggle, until her grip on the bars finally slips] Go Gamecocks! Lisa: No!
  12. If the Brewers finish 82-80 they won't be in 3rd place. The Cardinals haven't smelled .500 all season and are a really bad team (a run differential of -104. -104!).
  13. Thing is as bad as this maybe for Arizona Byrnes likely left at least a year on the table if he would have went to free agency.
  14. Dunn won't be worth the money if placed in the outfield, his defense is that bad. That said Dunn is yet to be a FA anyway.
  15. So now cheating includes doing things allowed by the rules?
  16. Gwynn isn't needed. There's a good chance Weeks will be on the bench to provide speed and otherwise Gwynn is just another version of Counsell at the plate.
  17. Graffanino in the OF with Counsell at 2B would be better than Mench vs RHP. I hope that Yost hasn't fallen in love with another Mench hot streak so we'll see him for another month based off of 4 games.
  18. Hey time for a dose of optimism! With the roster due at the end of the month, what will the Brewer playoff roster look like? The big question is whether they go with 11 or 12 pitchers. 11 pitchers: Position players Fielder Weeks Graffanino Counsell Hardy Braun Estrada Miller Jenkins Mench Hall Hart Dillon Gross Pitchers Sheets Capuano Suppan Bush Vargas (in relief) Shouse Wise Linebrink Turnbow Cordero Gallardo With 12 pitchers, add in Spurling and take out Dillon would be my guess. (added tags --1992)
  19. You can't just send him down.
  20. The problem is that once you DL them thats it for 15 days. Now Villy can be optioned down though it would be costly use of an option but he may never end up using them all anyway.
  21. Is Miller going to be gone? Now he won't be back at his current salary, but at say $1million a year you'd have a hard time finding a better back up catcher. Now he does risk falling of a cliff, but most back up catchers always have that risk.
  22. I really can't believe he went to Parra over Spurling with Parra only having 3 days of rest since his last 90 pitch outing. Talk about setting up a pitcher to fail.
  23. Or maybe he just isn't that good. Counsell had a 900+ OPS last spring too.
  24. Ask the Cubs if getting to the NLC was worth destroying Prior's arm for
  25. I wouldn't sign either Cordero or Linebrink. I'd ratehr trade for Nathan who sounds to be available or Cordeo from the Nats who is. As to 2B, nothing out there is better than Weeks. You have Castillo, Grudz if he doesn't retire, Loretta, and Graffy.
