  1. Pedro Martinez was traded at age 21 coming off a season of ERA+ of 151 back in 1993. For Delino DeShields.
  2. TV shows are actually a gray area.
  3. With Gallardo being called up, will Parra finally get moved up to AAA? Are they still tenuous about his arm?
  4. People are really overestimating Dye. He had an MVP type season last year, sure but that was way out of line with his career. His career line: .275/.337/.483 Hardly anything to get really worked up about.
  5. Dessens can come back anytime
  6. Outside of Milwaukee county, the property taxes plummet and so getting a condo makes more sense. The biggest problem there is unlike Milwaukee, moving a condo at profit is hard given the spate of recent new condo developments.
  7. Given the historically ugly 2000 draft, is Corey Hart the best player to come out of that draft for any team?
  8. Do players really forget how to hit if they are moved about in the lineup? Seriously, this isn't a football formation or a basketball rotation. Aside from some players not wanting to hit right after Hart or Weeks because stealing bothers them, what difference does it really make?
  9. I just saw Maroth had 21 starts in 2002 so assumed he had a full season. Bush has lots more value than Maroth though and Vargas has slightly more due to have two arby years left.
  10. If Maroth is to be a free agent at the end of the year, why would Texas trade for him?Only place Maroth might end up is New York as the Yankees search for more starters.
  11. Braun has had lots of time off this season. Why he needs a day off during the time Weeks is out is beyond me.
  12. Veronica Mars
  13. Given you were looking at $1400 a month in rent I was assuming a 2 bedroom place. And outside of Milwaukee the taxes drop and things make much more sense (assuming you're in a condo you can move, condos in Milwaukee itself will always have better turnaround assuming they stop this spate of new developments at some point). As to the return, a 40% return over three years is a 11.9% annual return, nice but not exactly earth shattering.
  14. Assuming you live in an area that can pick up over the air channels easily.
  15. I'm not saying that if you can find a cheaper condo you like its not worth it, just that people really overestimate the savings. A 225K mortgage at 6.3% is about $1400 a month. Now you'll get back about 20% from taxes. So thats $280 off of that. So you're at $1120 a month. Now you have condo fees. Say they are rather low at $200 a month. So you're at $1320 before property taxes. At Milwaukee's tax rate of $22.93 per $1000 you are looking at a property tax bill of $5159 or an extra $430 per month. So now you're paying an effective rate of $1750 per month. Lets say you can get a comparable apartment at $1400 a month. That means that you're condo has to increase by $4200 a year in value to break even. Real Estate historically increases in value (in real terms) at about 1% per year, meaning it would increase in value by $2,225.
  16. Yes Yo could easily bee on of the 30 best pitchers in baseball. Capuano has been one of the 30 best pitchers in baseball. Capunao was 26 in VORP last year. Doug Davis was 22 in 2004.
  17. I had DirecTV and had to get rid of it to get Adelphia internet a while back. (Adelphia had a charge of an extra $20 a month if you only got cable internet and no digital cable. Had to keep the governing family in corporate provided luxury!) It does go out with the weather. Meaning no tornado warnings lots of times. The big con is the provided service. Now this isn't as important in an apartment, but Time Warner has rewired whole sections of my parent's house for free when they were having problems. With DirecTV you are on your own. (Now this is from those who actually work in Time Warner service. The guys that come to install stuff tend to be contractors and in general get paid piecemeal and so do a fairly crappy job in order to install as many as possible in a given day). Price isn't that different if you want HD. Its nearly free from Time Warner for most decent HD stations but it will cost an extra $10 or so a month from DirecTV.
  18. Buying a condo may not be the best choice. It really has to do with how you are at saving money. Mortgage payments + condo fees can easily equal or surpass similar rental payments in Milwaukee. Then you have property taxes. If you can trust yourself to save that extra $3500-4500 that you would pay in taxes, renting would work out better.
  19. That blown save cost Sheets a win making it less likely he has to go to the All Star game giving him a nice relaxing break come July.
  20. Dunn's slugging drops 100 points away from Cincy over the past three years. It might be meaningless, but its there.
  21. Is it me or did the Brewers just draft Jack Cust?
  22. Well yes and no. Linear weights tend to act like regressions. Which means that for an average player, say one with an OBP of .330 and a SLG of .440, 1.7 or what have you is the proper weight. Meaning a OBP of .331 is better than a SLG of .441. But when you start to move away from the average player things break down. When you have a Gwynn type who likely has an OBP equal to his slugging, you can't assume 1.7 makes sense.
  23. The Brewers are WOAHfully short on corner outfield prospects. My guess is that Gamel hasn't been moved yet because his trade value at 3B is much higher than at LF.
