  1. Obviously Sheets went out and gave up 2 earned runs against the Dodger he was bad. A true ace would have held them scoreless while going 2-2 with 2 home runs to win the game himself. Ruth could've done that, so why can't Sheets?
  2. Heard the Dlist talking about the draft today, but Needles said he wanted another hitter. Also that Hart should be traded for a starting pitcher (?)
  3. VORP stands for Value Over Replacement Player. This is a mark of offensive value over the idea of a replacement player, basically a player thats somewhere about 70% below the average for a position. The idea is a replacement player is the typical AAA veteran who's 27-32 years old and can be had for league minimum. VORP tells you how many runs better (or worse) a given player is than a replacement player at that position. Its calculated by BP and since they went more pay, not really paid as much attention to because its hard to get at. FIP stands for Fielding Independent Pitching, Its based on the idea that a pitcher has little control over what happens when a hitter puts a ball in play. The pitcher mostly controls the K rate, BB rate, and HR rate. FIP tells what a pitcher's ERA would look like if the BABIP behind them were at league average.
  4. No pitching has been a problem. Capuano had three horrendous starts in a row. Suppan had two bad starts against the Mets and Phillies. Vargas has been himself. Really only Sheets has been good throughout May.
  5. Mass-Hart's first out today was smoked to RF
  6. That assumes that Capuano can actually get out of the 4th inning again this season. His implosion is a big reason for the record over the past 16 games.
  7. Tony "The Iceman" Gwynn keeps going!
  8. Keep in mid the last time the Yankees dumped a contract they actually got stuff for Sheffield. And the Tigers extended him at $13 million per...
  9. Really don't like Braun second. He's likely to carry a low OBP for a while. Hey somehow Jenkins isn't hitting 6th today. But Yost again doesn't realize making Jenkins the second lefty is just making it too easy for the opposing manager.
  10. Hall is under contract for four years cheaply. Crawford is signed at twice the price basically.
  11. Mench can get you a bigger salary.
  12. The DRays need pitching and Crawford's contract is shorter than Hall's. It makes no sense.
  13. Yeah but he has an option for 2010 and probably would force any team getting him to pick it up.
  14. Mora is getting $8.3 million for the next three years. Plus he has a complete no trade clause. No thanks. EDIT:Castillo isn't an upgrade.
  15. Jackson will have no where near the career of Dessens. Check out Dessens' career.
  16. In most cases I might roll with it, but Broxton and Saito are dominant. You have to try for the run there. And if a tie game keeps Saito on the bench, all the better.
  17. A lot lower than Eveland. Eveland can strike people out. Jackson has yet to show that. And Eveland is a full year younger.
  18. That the point Al, June1st is usally too early to avoid Super 2. I really don't care and really do think teh Brewers weren't worried about Super 2 but more about free agency years. Which is why I think Braun might have made the team versus the Twins if he didn't get hurt.
  19. Seriosuly, you want a give up game, you got Sunday against Peavy.
  20. Pretty sure that info is wrong. The date is usually around June 15th give or take a few days. Russ asked Melvin over the winter and Melvin said its likely Weeks with be arby eligible after this season. Here's the rule from the players association: I believe that there are 170 service days in a year. Basically serving just over half a season makes you Super 2.
  21. If you take out Hardy's power how can you not go with Gross?
  22. The Nats will likely want more than what the Reds gave them last year, which makes Cordero unlikely
  23. The Super 2 deadline is not June 1st. It would be closer to June 18th. Weeks is likely to be a Super 2 and he came up on June 11th. I do think there was a chance for Braun to have come up during the Twins series so he could join the team at home.
