  1. Think of it this way-in a given start a pitcher faces about 30 hitters. In a 6 game period a position player will have about 30 PAs.
  2. It been a while but I believe I remember seeing that while innings are down, pitches thrown has remained fairly consistent.
  3. Actually he has and he failed. This wouldn't be such a big deal if Yost didn't insist on bringing Cordero in for every single save opportunity. So if Spurling lets one on in the 9th with a 4 run lead, Cordero starts getting warmed up even with two outs.
  4. $4.5 million is a lot for a uneeded pitcher who is likely to break down. There is absolutely no reason to take on that kind of salary. And the fact that Attanasio owns the team doesn't mean the Brewers have money to burn.
  5. The reason is that if a team wants they can get their #1 and #2 starters around 35 starts vs 30-33 for #3 and #4.
  6. Well Vargas's high win total does mean his trade value is higher...
  7. Spurling's ERA being under 3 is luck. What is saving him is an unbelievable (ans unsustainable) LOB% of 83%. Major league average is 71%.
  8. Just imagine Rich Harden and Johan Santana! Get it done Doug!
  9. So the Brewers trade Jenkins, Parra and Inman for Griffey and have to pick up his 2009 option to get him to waive his no trade clause. So no Sheets extension. Then Griffey has his yearly injury and misses all of August and we'll be treated to Mench full time and miss the playoffs.
  10. The Brewers can not afford both Sheets and Beurhle especially since they already have a no trade Suppan around. And Sheets, Buerhle and Capuano would likely come to close to $60 million all by themselves.
  11. You know this how? His bat speed? Weeks has been injured msot of his time in Milwaukee. Beginning with the foolish decision to have him play through his thumb injury to his two DL stints the last two years with wrist issues. He may never recover or maybe next year he will be healthy. But he's far from a bust and if the worst result is that one highly touted prospect tops off at slightly above average the Brewers should rejoice.
  12. Does anyone have any idea what has happened to Bay this year? Career Numbers: .287/.382/.529 2007: .259/.334/.440
  13. Gange's health will likely screw up his compensation value so the Rangers basically have to trade him because draft picks are far from assured.
  14. No reason to move him until absolutely necessary. A 3B prospect is worth more in trade than a corner OF prospect.
  15. If you resign Sheets Capuano's Brewer's future becomes very short. Parra then is really the only lefty starter you ave in the foreseeable future.
  16. Bush never has reacted well when his routine is interrupted.
  17. Mench isn't going back to Texas. If you want to balance salary maybe Dessens can "recover."
  18. It would definitely benefit baseball as a sport. And yes when baseball makes money Boras makes money. And pundits complain no matter what.
  19. Some sites hold links to content that might violate copyright laws
  20. The one no decision was the 3 run blown save by Cordero in Texas.
  21. You're right the Brewers rested so much they forced Hill to throw 60 pitches over the next two innings. If your closer gives up three runs you'll lose.
  22. Again offering arbitration depends upon the option. Given it has a buyout, that might mean the Brewers renounce their rights upon acting on the option. They could try to sign him then to another contract which is now possible under the new bargaining rules (under the old ones not really).
  23. Biggio is one of the top 5 players of the past two decades, he's in.
  24. The point is the numbers are meaningless.
  25. The NBA doesn't work like that. Tim Duncan is worth like $25-30 million on a free market. But he doesn't face that. His salary is capped at $14 million (or whatever). Redd would make $18 million in a free market but his salary is capped at $14 million. Yes Duncan is the better value but that doesn't mean Redd isn't worth his salary.
