  1. Did you see the picture in that article? How dare Goosage disgrace that proud Yankee uniform with facial hair! No respect for tradition!
  2. The Brewers already have Middlebrooks whose brief success actually happened at MLB.
  3. Not sure what you mean? Fowler had no choice. Baltimore looks to have pulled everything when the Gallardo deal was put in limbo and it sounds like what Baltimore was leaking they were offering was not what they were really offering. No other team wanted to give up the draft choice for Fowler so he was stuck with trying to get back on the market next year.
  4. Well if you treat the Mariner trades as two separate events: Best: Flores for Sardinas. Trading a 23 year old who still looks to be years from being even valuable utility infielder for a 23 year old OFer who is looks to be a solid 4 OFer right now if not better is a steal. Worst: Lind for three short soft tossing right handed pitcher in rookie ball, one of which is injured. Lind had around $6 million in excess value. At best the three arms coming back are worth $3 million. You can get much better prospects for $6 million in the international market. This is why I believe these two trades are basically two halves of the same trade. Now if you combine those, then: Best: Segura/Wagner for Anderson/Hill/Diaz. This is not a lopsided trade but it was moving the risk of Segura who may have been non-tendere at the end of next season if he repeats his 2015 and using the huge amount of salary room to add talent to the system. Anderson is the type of pticher conending teams will love to have come July to coer for back end rotation injuries, so (assuming Anderson is healthy) he could add soem decent pieces. Worst: The trades that haven't happened. Braun is not worth his contract and the further into teh contract the less value he has making it more of a millstone. Smith is a pitcher and so injury concerns are always at the forefront. Lucroy needs to be moved and hopefully some catching in spring training will show he's healthy enough to be traded.
  5. The A's only had a -35 run differential at the end of the year so there were better than a 68 win team. And the Rangers only had a +18. They are currently projected to be about .500 for 2016 (prior to Davis). They got cost controlled right handed power, one of the most expensive skills in the game. They gave up a guy who might not stick at catcher who hit .299/.352/.426 for them at High A (wRC+ 107). They may very well think they are bailing out of a sinking ship who if he can't stay at catcher has little to no value.
  6. I think Flores is really the only one acquired that looks to be on the team next year that might break out. Projection systems love him (KATOH has him the #24 in all of baseball). In fact the only way to make sense of the Lind trade is if you make it Lind and Sardinas for Flores + the 3 arms. Each of the deals would be fairly lopsided on their own. But then Flores really isn't a CFer either and so I don't know where he would get ABs. As to the point about defense, yeah it looks to be terrible next year. Catcher looks to be only position that might be above average. Gennett will likely be about average at 2B. After that, not good. Hill/Cecchini/Middlebrooks look to be below average at 3B. Villar looks to be a terrible defensive SS Carter is a bad defensive 1B Braun's and Davis's failings are well known. Niuewenhuis likely would be average in Cf, maybe slightly better but then you are giving PAs to a 28 year old 5th OFer.
  7. It's also clear from his comment that Arcia will be up at 12:01 a.m. on June 1st that he has no idea how Super 2 eligibility works and is just sort of guessing at it. Yep. There is absolutely no reason for either Arcia (or Philips) to spend one day in Milwaukee this season. Wasting serivce time and giving away a year of their prime on this team would be incredibly stupid. They are May 2017 call ups.
  8. Yadiel Rivera? Given that everything points to Villar being a horrendous SS and that Rivera should spend more time in the minors, getting a guy who can somewhat field the position could still happen.
  9. That is incorrect. We just signed a poor fielding version of Mark Reynolds. Steamer actually has them with basically the same projected offense for 2016 (wRC+106 for Carter vs 101 for Reynolds). A big ehhh... yeah he's 29 some he might have a better year left in him but since he was always "old player skills" he might be heading down quickly. $2.5 million would buy the type we return we got for Lind (which is why the return for Lind was bad but that is another topic).
  10. Except that Sheets had two amazing pitches which somehow compensated for the lack of a third pitch. Yeah. Using Sheets as anecdotal evidence that you don't need three pitches to be a SP is like using Jamie Moyer as evidence that you can pitch until you're 50. And while Sheets was a two pitch pitcher, he threw two significantly different curves. One was a smaller break he threw to get called strikes and one was a big break for swinging strikes.
  11. No we are not. Alvarez is nearly Braun at 3B bad at 1B. Alvarez has a career wRC+ of 106 and 114 last year. Davis has a career wRC+ of 119 and 121 last year. Davis is below average in LF but the amount of damage that does is minimal. Alvarez is terrible at 1B and that matters a bunch more.
  12. His O-swing% of 27.6% is fine and the difference between him and those better than him not named Votto would be impossible to tell with the naked eye. And his hit spray chart shows him using all fields when he makes solid contact.
  13. And I would much rather trade Braun who will likely be bad by the time the Brewers are competitive again than Davis who will (hopefully) be still in his prime. Let's kill two birds with one stone, trade Braun to the Giants for Pagan and a prospect.
  14. Ross is a legit #1 starter turning 27 with two cost controlled years left. The Brewers would need to give up a package built around Arcia. You are not getting Ross for Davis and jetsam like Segura.
  15. Lind is vastly superior to Morneau, Loney, and Alvarez. Those three are the definition of replacement level.
  16. Escobar--below average shortstop that only Yost would bat leadoff with his .293 OBP (and luck into him having the greatest two weeks of his life during the post season) Cain--never would have done anything in Milwaukee. As a 27 year old he has a wRC+ of 80. He never would have gotten playing time over Gonzalez Braun or Davis. Davis--if the Brewers would have traded two more than solid prospects for a reliever this board would have melted down. Donaldson--weird trade that made no sense for Oakland at the time.
  17. When you trade you best pitcher and your 2nd best player during the deadline, yeah everybody will be available.
  18. Garza has been a solidly above average pitcher when healthy, a #2 starter. That "when healthy" is why the Brewers even had a shot at him. He almost certainly pitched this past season hurt trying to get the option to vest. And the option is why he didn't get to start at the end of the year even when Peralta who was just as bad was kept in the rotation.
  19. Taking Puig over Braun just on baseball terms is not a bad move given that, you know, Braun is hurt constantly. Puig is a plus defender, Braun is bad. Add in that cost difference and age difference it is not really that close. As for Grandal, he's all of 18 months younger than Lucroy and given Lucroy's deal is likely going to cost 3-4X as much. But that doesn't mean the Dodgers will pay a huge rate to get the incremental increase over Grandal. I see no match with the Brewers and Dodgers save maybe for bullpen arms and possibly Segura but that would hardly be exciting. If you are looking to move Braun, the team to look at is the Nationals who need to replace Werth.
  20. That TD was called back. He recovered on the 1 yd line. Brady then threw a TD pass.
  21. With Arcia on the near horizon there is a very real chance that the Brewers shop Segura this offseason and go with Sardinas at SS next year. Possible they shop Gennett too, if they are eyeing Arcia at SS and Sardinas at 2B in 2017. He's a decent prospect, but not someone who will likely break the bank in arbitration. Sardinas has done absolutely nothing at AAA to say he is ready to play at the MLB level. So why trade Sardinas' age 28 season which may be valuable for the Brewers for a 23 year old season when he will almost certainly stink, may impact his development and even if he is good provide absolutely no value to the Brewers? If they move Segura they would still be better getting some miLB FA and having him play SS.
  22. Yea!, burning more service time for Sardinas for absolutely no reason.
  23. I do not get the Segura to 2B talk. His defense at SS is OK. Meaning if he hits decently enough for 2B, he is more valuable at SS. Given Arcia should not be up next year and burning service time on what is likely the worse Brewer team in a decade, see if Segura can hit and be a decent SS option.
  24. Well 1 HR in just over 6 innings will do that. He has an xFIP of 3.38 which is inline with what he had with the Brewers.
  25. Gallardo started off strong but has come down fast. He's down to 5.92 K/9 from 6.83 last year which was his low up until that point. Gallardo might be younger than Garza but his fastball is 2 mphs slower and he is King fewer per 9 than even an injured Garza has been. Gallardo's ERA might get someone to jump but I would not want my team signing him to a major deal.
